Ida’s Salon

Tried Ida’s with a no chip groupon and won’t be back. The nail tech was friendly but didn’t show much attention to detail. She polished unevenly and when I asked for more oil or lotion at the end of the manicure because my hands were so dry from the acetone she used, she told me to use olive oil at home. Isn’t that what a manicurist should do? Like other Unilocalers, the polish had many flaws.

I got my blonde highlights done by Evelyn and am very happy. I got a lot of compliments from friends and family.

I got my nails done there yesterday.
I had the groupon.
They charger extra $ 5 to remove polish. I guess every place upcharges nowadays. It’s not a big deal just feels weird
The selection of colors is tiny. I wanted something neutral and I basically had two choices. They don’t even have that thingie with options on a ring. Just a few rows of bottles.
The technician was nice and chatty but the results were mediocre to bad. Zero attention to cuticles. Also the area where they do nails is very poorly lit and I didn’t even see how bad it was until I got outside. See picture attached with multiple bumps, hairs and missed sides of the nails. Also some of the nails are longer on one hand and shorter on the other. I hope this will last till Monday. As it will need to be redone.
Won’t be back.
Very disappointed and a total waste of $.

I went to Ida’s Salon on a Groupon for a no chip manicure. Irina was the nail technician. She was timely and did a lovely job. She recommended some beautiful colors that would work well with my skin tone and length of my nails. She was pleasant and easy to talk to. The salon was clean and quiet. A nice place to relax. My only negative feedback is I wish there was more hand/​fingers and forearm massage. I would definitely recommend this place!

The staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. My haircut and dye looks great (I would post pictures but I’m pretty lazy at the moment.) I got tons of compliments on my hair immediately upon arriving at home as well. The only thing is that the whole process took 3 hours instead of the 2 hours I’m used to at most places. This wouldn’t have been as much of an issue if I didn’t have to study for a final. But I also feel like she took her time which is why the haircut turned out so well. I was happy with the price of the actual haircut but disappointed with the price of the dye which made this haircut the most expensive haircut I have ever received. This is why I am only giving the place 4 stars. I would definitely come back here for a cut though! (I may have to look around for a cheaper place in the case of the dye).

Review for Keratin treatment: I was visiting town and hoping to squeeze in a Keratin appointment. I saw a Groupon deal for Ida Salon, and called asking if I could get the Groupon price without purchasing the deal (less hassle), which they kindly agreed to. Impressively, I was able to get an appointment for the coming Saturday.
Overall, the treatment was great. Tatiana took her time with the Keratin process (3 hrs) and was wonderful to talk to. The hair washing by Olga was a treat, she gives you a nice scalp/​neck massage. The salon also offers free Wifi to entertain yourself with!
I do wish they’d explained to me ahead of time the difference between a Brazilian Blowout and Keratin. I usually just get Keratin out of habit, not realizing that a Brazilian blowout is better and longer-​lasting.

When posting this 5-​star review, in Unilocal speak I’m told it is «Woohoo! As good as it gets!» and I couldn’t have said it better myself. Lisa took care of my 13-​year old son, my 8-​year old daughters and myself without skipping a talented, focused, and friendly beat. I had never been to this salon but spotted it while visiting my knitting store a few doors down and decided to give it a try. So glad I did and have already made appointments (shockingly for me) in advance for a few months from now. Thank you, Lisa and Ida’s Salon!

I was lucky to get a same-​day appointment for a no-​chip manicure. I found the salon to be clean and friendly, with a large selection of colors to choose from. My manicurist, Irena, was lovely — she did an excellent job of shaping my nails, cleaning my cuticles, and applying the polish to perfection! The owner came by to greet me, and to check if all was o.k. I subtracted one star just because the nail room was rather small, and can only accommodate one customer at a time — otherwise definitely a 5-​star experience… I’ll be back, for sure!

I purchased a groupon for a no-​chip about a year ago and really liked it. Now, whenever I make an appointment, they honor the groupon price without needing the groupon, so the no-​chip comes out to 21 dollars. They only have one technician at a time I think and it’s better to have an appointment. I typically request Irina, she’s amazing, professional and fast! The gentleman at the front desk is professional and nice. They have many colors to choose from as well.

I bought a groupon for a no chip manicure. Made an appt with no problem. Came in at the scheduled time and got the best manicure. It was so enjoyable and relaxing. I see myself as a long time customer.

While I liked the manicurist… the owner is as rude as they come! I will never set foot in that establishment again!

Worst no chip manicure ever! The lady was very nice but she does an awful job. At 21 $ (groupon price) it’s the cheapest you’ll find. But I’ll still rather pay $ 35 elsewhere than going back unfortunately. Sad since it’s walking distance from me.
They have about 20 colors to choose from. The manicure itself is just horrible. She doesn’t do your cuticle, she slathers the gel polish on and once dry is extremely bumpy.

My friend, who also commented below, and I enjoy having breakfast together on a Saturday and then trying new nail salons. Yesterday, we ended up in Northbrook to try Ida’s Salon, which we had never been to before, and we were excited to try a new place.
Upon arrival, we were greeted (by name!) by a really nice guy who welcomed us, scanned our Groupons, and then lead us to the waiting room which was stocked with coffee, water, and cookies. Well, after such a warm welcome, I couldn’t wait to see how nice my nails would look once the manucure was done. Little did I know that I would be very disappointed…
Finally the manicurist comes, takes us into a small room, and tells us to pick our colours. For me, this was the first disappointing part of the experience. I’ve gotten many no-​chip manicures all over the suburbs and the city, and never have I seen such a small selection of colours. That said, I didn’t want to judge too quickly, so I found one I really liked, and sat down at the station.
Things were going pretty well, the lady doing our nails was very nice. She asked us about ourselves and added comments in here and there to the conversation I was having with my friend. Once my nails were done, I took a look to make sure they looked good. I noticed that the polish on my left thumb was a bit bumpy, and not smooth as it should be after getting your nails done. The manicurist redid the nail for me without making any fuss (which I give her props for), and it seemed fine to me. Thenm it was my friend’s turn to get hers done, and after that we left.
We ended up back at my friend’s apartment, and, as we always do after getting our nails done, we were sitting around analyzing how the manicure had gone and what we thought of our nails; that was when I noticed that my thumb nail was still bumpy! I was really annoyed about it. My friend also noticed that the job was sloppy, as there was excess polish around her nails, and our manicurist didn’t do a good job with our cuticles. I looked down at my nails and had to agree. Later on, I was showing the manicure to another friend, and I noticed that one of the nails was already chipped! I couldn’t believe it, because we got «no-​chip» manicures. I’m usually someone whose no-​chips last forever, and I already had one nail that was chipped only a few hours after the manicure was done. It is truly one of the worst manicures I’ve ever had.
Needless to say, we will not be returning to Ida’s.

my friend and I bought this groupon because we love to get our nails done together. when I called to make an appointment, they informed me that only one manicurist was working so they’d do back to back appointments — which, fine, whatever. we get there, and it literally is one small room with one station — which I found kind of weird. the staff was very kind and nice (the receptionist even greeted us by name as soon as we walked in), but the nail technician, as nice as she was, just wasn’t very skilled. there was polish still on my skin when I left, and three of my nails were painted unevenly (part of the nail by the bottom cuticle edge just weren’t painted, even after I asked her to try and cover the entire nail). if I’m going to be completely honest, it was like we got our nails done at a friends house or something — it was not the manicure experience we were expecting. I wish it went better just because of how nice the staff was, but the job was kind of sloppy.

I purchased a Groupon for a no-​chip mani and really wanted to like this salon and service, however…
— the nail tech is sloppy
— she didn’t clean my cuticles
— there was nail polish on my skin, yet sides of my nails weren’t painted
– she tried to fix it, but somehow didn’t have the skill to do that…
— there are no color samples of the no-​chip nail polishes, so you really have to rely on tech’s imagination/​understanding
I won’t be back…

I really want to give this place 5 starts, the staff is great and friendly but my review is based off the no chip manicure.
I got a groupon for it and wanted to check them out. I really think they need to get a new nail technician… she was nice however she really didn’t pay much attention to what she was doing. I had nail polish on my skin and she painted over a piece of cotton which is now stuck on my nail unless I pick at it and ruin my no chip. I also have a couple bumps on couple of my nails
This mani isn’t what I’m use to, I am use to the nail tech taking a lot more time on cleaning up my nails and cuticles and more attention to detail… I had to tell her to clean up the nail polish on my skin (it didn’t help she couldn’t see what I was talking about)
Again place is great they just need a new nail tech

Best no-​chip manicures! Easy to schedule, professional, and great attention to detail! They layered colors to create a sparkly purple finish. It looked like glass — no bumps or marks. Long lasting no-​chip manicures!

I’ve been here a few times for a no-​chip manicure, but there’s a few issues. First of all, everytime I come, I wait at least 20 minutes after my appointment was scheduled because there is only one lady who does the manicures/​waxes and she seems to be back-​to-​back booked. The upside is they have snacks/​coffee/​tea in the waiting room, but still, I’d rather just not wait. The manicures end up perfect and they have a good selection of no-​chip colors, but the service is just eh. There’s not really a substantial hand massage or any of those fixings with this manicure. I like to feel pampered when I am getting a mani, so when someone just paints my nails, it’s okaaay but my friend can do that for me instead…
I think I’ll try a new place next time, although the owner seems VERY nice and he offers a variety of deals when you are checking out.

Just an excellent very professional friendly experience. Good style & color consultation. Lisa worked some serious magic on my hair. I have never had a better style. Great advice on how to keep my hair & style looking good until my next visit.

I was extremely fortunate to have Ida, herself, cut my hair. She is an artist and professional, for sure. She is such a sweet and soft spoken lady! Her skills rival no other hair stylist I’ve ever had. She is incredibly meticulous, listens well, and incorporates her own expertise into how she cuts & styles. She also took her time to style every piece of hair and straight ironed it too. Ida toyed with the thickness of my bangs for a few minutes in the beginning to make sure it suited my face shape. And I walked out the happiest I’ve ever been with a haircut. I left with a shaggy, long layered V-​cut with bangs.
It also helped that the receptionist was so friendly. You need someone like that to bid you farewell at the end. Parking is extremely easy since Ida’s is located in a strip mall. It is also a few blocks walking distance from the Northbrook Metra station. However, minus one star for the price — it’s $ 75 for a haircut/​blowdry/​style!
