Brightside Clinic

I am a patient and proud of it! Dr. John B picked up the very first time I called (and believe me I tried several other clinics because I needed help and was willing to change). Dr. Benedetto spent close to 45 minutes on the phone listening and his willingness to help was something I never experienced before. He had me in with in 24 hours and would have seen me that very moment but I was unable to leave work.
The next day I was in and that is when I met Dr. Kenji Oyasu. Let me be very clear, Kenji is one of a kind and treats me like family. He went far beyond the call of duty (as dose the whole Brightside team) to make sure I got healthy and stayed healthy.
I was scared to switch from a 120mg a day methadone dose to Suboxone. And it was not easy and I had to be methadone free for approximately 6 full days (and no opioids period! Don’t think a short acting opioid is going to speed up the process). Kenji was with me every step of the way during the induction process. I believe I was his very first methadone conversation and It worked! Been off methadone since June of 2015 and my life keeps getting better every day.
I want to give a shout out to Phil A. You rock buddy! And the staff that treats you like family right when you walk through the front door.
Also I just switched from Dr. Kenji Oyasu to Dr. Robert Burton (a psychiatrist) not only for his expertise in treating opiate addiction but to move forward and form a overall treatment program to treat some other issues I have. I just had my first visit with Dr. Burton this week and I personally want to thank you for helping me get on track with a treatment plan and the willingness to keep me healthy!
I am also looking forward to getting to know Dr. Diane Copeland in the soon to come therapy program.
I came in as a Methadone conversation and wanted to get off because the methadone was running my life. It’s ok to be scared but you need to also be brave and fight! Trust and follow the direction of your Dr. This is a process but if you do it correctly through Brightside Clinic, you can accomplish anything!

I woke one morning to find nothing but the same. Another shot, a cup of coffee and off to work again to make more money to pay for my next mandatory medication time. The biggest problem is medication time had now become 4 to 5 times a day a half per dose. Add that up! Things were looking so down! I was alone afraid, but so high I couldn’t even think straight. I had been looking for a way out and saw the fix nowhere. I called many doctors in the area to find out the ones that were seeing patients were either booked up for the next three months or not taking any new clients. Checking myself into a rehab for weeks or months are not an option, but I knew continuing one more day was not an option either. Did I say my girlfriend Windy had died from an O.D. Just thought I might mention that too. I had just left another clinic in Chicago with nothing but a number to another clinic in my eyes my life was sure to end as I had known it to be, but I call the last chance number and its BRIGHTSIDE CLINIC!!!
From the moment Dr. John answered the phone I knew this was different. He was so compassionate about my situation and my wellbeing from that moment to date. I had one on the phone, a person who knew I needed help right then. This is no joke if your are reading this please pick up the phone and find out for yourself! When I went into the office the following day after Dr. John had contacted three or four other times to check on me I find Dr. Kenji Oyasu who has turned out to be my guardian angel! He walked me thru the steps of how we were together going to beat this Gorrilla off my back. The following day it started after Dr. John had worked everything out for me with my Medicaid in order to get the Suboxone to kill the beast.
The process started at home and it was not easy to get started but I will tell you Dr. Kenji was there for me via text and or phone calls throughout the beginning to make sure I dosed myself correctly. I had made a mistake in the beginning and neglected to text or call back Dr. Kenji and he knew that I was in bad shape the next thing I know I have a wellness check at my front door to make sure I had not died by doing something stupid like another shot of dope. From that moment on I know I had a winning team to guide me thru the whole process. I have saved my house, my cars, the electric is still on and I now have food in my refrigerator. My job is better than ever before and I went out on a date for the first time since I lost someone I really cared about to this addiction. So save your life as I have mine by calling Brightside and you will see they are there for you from that day forward! Please make that call before you possibley DIE! I recently was able to turn my life around from barely surviving in active drug addiction to sober and waking up in the morning loving my life!
During the process Suboxone was recommended to me. So I went on a search to find a physician to monitor and prescribe it to me. Initially, I was getting frustrated trying to find a prescribing physician who had evening hours so I could go after work. It did not seem economically viable to have to take time off work, then pay for the visit and then pay for the medicine! I wanted to find an office that would be able to see me after my job so at least one of those expenses would be cut out. After contacting a few places I found and called Brightside… whoa! how lucky was I!
From the moment Phil answered the phone I knew I had found a place that could #1 help me #2 be extremely considerate while doing so.
These guys are the best! Phil Atteberry, Dr Burton, Dr Oyasu and Dr Benedetto clearly make it a point to not rush through your appointment, go out of their way to assist you, are extremely non-​judgemental and open.
So here are the positives: simply nice guys, they offer water when you enter (it’s hot out there! Sometimes I do need water!), accessible office hours, positive and comfortable office environment, doable cost especially considering all you get, knowledgeable and caring physicians, if you need them they give you a number so you can text/​call with any questions/​concerns. I really like that because I would much rather text than call. Most importantly they LISTEN and are RESPECTFUL.
Cons: I wish they had a Chicago office as well
