This tiny little diner caught my eye because of it’s amazing location off of the I-80. It is a classic looking diner based from the 50’s that has a great view of the freeway. The service inside was also great as well. Our server Barbara was amazing and took great care of my party throughout the visit. The was great also. I ordered the buffalo burger which was amazing. I would definitely recommend that burger to anyone. So overall this place earned to 5 stars because of its amazingness across the board. A great place to eat right of the freeway.

I LOVE the burgers & we eat at Penny’s any time we’re in North Platte. Highly recommended! I will say they’re late night one person staff needs some consideration. Waited for some time while he cooked someone’s meal before he ever took our order. Had to ask 3 times what we wanted on a build your own burger and still did it wrong & put the wrong kind of cheese on all the burgers. Only time we’ve ever had an issue at Penny’s

On our first vacation in a few years and this was our first stop for eats and it was great! Cute diner friendly people open 24 hrs… food is cooked right in front of you. Food is really good fresh and tasty! Recommend for sure. Wish our city had places like this!

We had breakfast at Penny’s. The food was well prepared and in ample quantities. Where we were sitting we got to see Pete do his spatula magic on the big grill. Coffee was pretty average but not bad. I had the sunrise skillet, which was tasty and had a little kick from the jalapeños. My wife had eggs and biscuits. Penny’s tends to be pretty noisy. Service was very competent.

Great breakfast. I try to avoid chain restaurants. This is a great option if you find yourself in N Platte.

Was stuck in town due to weather and came in for breakfast. Staff was inviting and entertaining. The whole staff was engaged during my meal and the country fried steak was awesome!

Typical diner food. The buffalo burger was pressed and probably started out frozen and was a bit pricey. BLT was good. Chili was fair. Staff is great though.

It’s exactly what you want from a small town diner: friendly service and warm comfort food. The most striking was how friendly the staff were; we interacted with 4 different employees and at no point was any of it intrusive; just kind smiles and fast good food.

So, for I think the 2nd time ever I ended up in North Platte for my layover for the night. That’s what it’s called in truck driving when the feds make you stop and rest ;-) Anyhow, I went over to Pennys for dinner based on very good Unilocal reviews. Well, it was good but not great. I got a typical cheeseburger with fries platter. I’ve had better burgers, «much better» but, I’ve also had many that were a lot worse. There was just one guy working in there as the host, cashier, cook, busboy… You get the picture. He was completely alone! Luckily for him it was only one other table, and then myself. Based on the wonderful reviews of this place, I expected it to be crazy busy. I found myself wondering just how this gentleman would handle things if this were the case. Anyhow, the place has a nice 1950s type of atmosphere and décor inside. All in all it’s a neat little place that I probably would go to again were my circumstances similar.

Outstanding diner atmosphere, food and service! Stop here if you’re traveling along I-80. We made the stop on our way to Colorado and glad we did. The order was correct and the waitress knew what we ordered(sadly never happens anymore). She took good care of us and the food came out quickly so we could hit the road. My husband had the chicken fried steak skillet, which looked yummy and was filling. The kids had breakfast, and I had the burger. All good. The only watch out is if you have a big group. We had 6 and there is one area at the end with room for about 8. We were fortunate enough to get there when it was open. But it is a diner, so space is already tight.

Classic diner. For a diner it’s a solid 4. What you’d expect. No surprises. We had the Grilled chicken sandwich, Chef salad, and Kids chicken and fries. We stopped for a late lunch, around 2:00. There were a half dozen customers — always a good sign.

Used the ‘free’ breakfast coupon from our overnight stay at the Oak Tree hotel next door. Good ol’ fashioned comfort food, right off the interstate. Would definitely return when in the area again.

There aren’t a lot of choices for food on the drive from Omaha to Denver, so this was a welcomed find. It’s a true diner with a great staff. We split the huge truly homemade meatloaf special & it was more than enough. The mashed potatoes were instant, but they clearly used enough real butter to make them good. They also had a pretty good selection of hot sauces which is a big one for me.

Eating in a diner of the 50’s is a unique & nostalgic experience! Good Americana comfort food and plenty of it with a 24 hour experience cannot be compared to any other eating experience! Watching a «grill master» at work preparing the food for the many customers is a pleasure in itself 37 «Penny’s Diner» locations can be found in 21 states! As much as I DISLIKE chains. «Penny’s Diner» chain offers each location a one-of-a-kind” experience. The history of each diner is individual & unique! «Run-A-Way Bill» was here!

After walking in the door, we were greeted by a smiling waitress and told that we could sit anywhere we wanted. We sat down and promptly made our selections. As we were sitting at our table waiting for our food, a National Weather Service emergency broadcast came on, predicting golf=ball-sized hail that would be in our area in about 90 minutes. While that didn’t set fire to our britches, they may have started to smolder a bit. The food arrived soon after that. My selection happened to be the special of the day, a ribeye steak sandwich served with fries. I had all the typical sandwich fixings(lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.) provided, as well as a selection of steak and other sauces for my choosing. I sampled a variety of these sauces, and while it was excellent on its own, it was outstanding when paired with one of the lesser-known sauces. My steak was well-prepared at the right level of doneness, and it was juicy, but not so much that the sandwich leaked. The fries came out hot and were nicely seasoned. The cheeseburger and chicken fried steak meals that I got to try were also very good. While there was a bit of tension after the weather broadcast, the only sign of it that we saw was the fact that we were brought our check as we were finishing our meal in case we wanted to head out pretty soon. After deciding on whether or not to get pie(they had about half a dozen options), we ended up getting a piece of Boston cream pie to split among the three of us. When it was brought to us, the waitress apologized that this was the last piece and that it wasn’t fresher, so she wouldn’t charge us for it. While it was a bit on the dry side, I certainly won’t look a gift horse in the mouth and count that against them. Everything that we had was quite good, and I would be happy to return in the future. P. S. I would like to thank the people of Unilocal for pointing me to these little restaurants; without it we would be stuck hopping from one fast food joint with a roadside sign to another along our cross-country trek.

I was in town with friends hanging at Lake Maloney and we couldn’t quite figure out where to have a late breakfast. We were hungover and needed a greasy plate. We knew Perkins was a solid option, but thought we’d venture across the street to Penny’s instead. I was glad we made the decision to try something new. The inside had a classic diner vibe and you were able to see your food being prepared. I ordered The North Platter(obviously) and I was satisfied. I was greeted with two huge sausage patties, two pieces of bacon, two eggs, hash browns, and toast. Penny’s is pretty much everything you would expect from a diner. Food was good, server didn’t really wanna be there, but that didn’t bother me. I wish I would have tried a shake but that really would’ve upped my bill. The diner may have been a little over priced, but still reasonable. Brat

Husband and I were in town for a funeral. Drank too much, needed food. Perkins was closed for carpet cleaning or something. VOILA: Penny’s DIner. Our server/cook guy was nice enough, but he made a comment about me being on my cell phone. I appreciated his concern, but don’t really know if it was his to have. Regardless, good food, reasonable priced, and I overtipped him… just because.

I’m super grateful this place exists, because we had been traveling the whole night, and just ready for a break and some food! Denny’s was up the street and I hate that place, so when we saw Penny’s we were relieved. It’s not that it’s the most amazing food by any means, but it was still good(and not Dennys) and the staff were all really nice!
