I went to Dick’s to get some warm winter gloves. Sizes were limited, as it seemed more stock had not been put out. I finally found a pair in my size in the men’s section, not where they should have been, bought them, wore them 2 times in the car and then noticed the side of the glove was not fully sewn. I had all the tags, but in the process of all the other Christmas shopping the receipt was misplaced. Since it had only been 4 days since I bought them I figured I could do an even exchange; they were defective. I went and found the gloves in a different color, same size and tried to exchange them. I was told I would have to pay more since they had those gloves on sale last month. The checker that helped me was the same person from a few days before, but I suppose he didn’t remember me, although I really stand out in this part of the upper mid-west. I said, «I was in here 4 days ago, you were here & these have only been worn 2 times in the car. Why are you trying to charge me more now?» He said they had to follow the policy even though he was the one who helped me when I purchased them, so it was possble he remembered me. I had just watched him give away a free gift that customers get when they have signed up for a «Score Card.» This person did not have a score card, his decision was arbitrary. He just gave away free merchandise and wouldn’t just do an even exchange for me! What a DICK. I took the gloves and left. I will try to sew them up myself. I hate companies that try to make things difficult for customers just because they can be jerks when they could just as easily be the opposite and create a positive experience. I will not be going back, as I as pretty darn sure this was a racial issue. I am part Mexican and had drak hair then. The kid he gave free merchandise to right be fore me in line was white, like him. I was payinjg, the kid was not. Dick or racist: either is wrong.
