Fantastic beers and the staff was always knowledgable and helpful. I really love the Pavers Porter — first rate beer! And your English and French ciders were delicious. Thank you again to your staff especially Sarah, Laura, Jakob and Bryce for helping us pull off last months Bend&Brew fundraiser and for the ones coming up on Sunday March 20 and April 17! BackRack BBQ has delicious food as well !

Cinder Block is probably my favorite local brewery. I’ve done the leg work too, having been to all of the local breweries within KCMO/​NKC city limits. Just for clarification, I’m not including Boulevard in this determination, as they are on a bigger scale than the rest of the local breweries.
Cinder Block has some great beers, with my favorite being the very drinkable Weathered Wit… you can never go wrong with that one. I also like their Northtown Native (lager) and for $ 8 you can get a five beer flight of their «flagship» beers — not a bad deal in my book. My current obsession is their French cider — very light and bubbly and crisp — overall I love it. They also have an English cider that I have yet to try but my beer loving hubby has tried it and given it a thumbs up. Another perk to Cinder Block is that there is plenty of space in the to sit. Some of the other breweries in town are pretty limited in their seating options but that is not the case here. Finally, their patio looks amazing. The last two times I have been here it has been much too cold to sit outside but I am looking forward to the warmer months so I can be a regular on the patio.

Very good brew selection. If you enjoy craft beer I would go here either if you live in Kc or just visiting. After this make your way down to big rip brewery it a little bit more of a chill place. It’s only 1 miles away so no excuses.
Go in and try their cant go wrong with that.

Cinder Block was the first microbrewery I tried in Kansas City when the boom started, and it remains my favorite. Where KCBC is a great example of a brewery that knows their niche and masters it, Cinder Block takes the creativity and breadth of styles that make homebrewing fun and deliver them as high-​class offerings. When trying new offerings at Cinder Block, I feel like I’m meeting a fellow brewer and trying their latest experiment they’ve been raving about.
From their year-​round beers like the Wit and Porter to more exotic brews like winter warmers and Weiss, everything is true to style and delicious. The bartenders know the brews well, and the brewers often make a trip to the bar to quip with customers. The atmosphere is friendly, intimate, and focused on the quality beer they provide. Every time I see them post online a new offering, I’m excited to go in and give it a try.

Really nice rotating selection of small batch craft beers in a small converted industrial space in North KC. The bartender/​brewmeister was friendly and informative. Had one of the best porters I’ve ever tasted here during a recent visit.

My husband and I stopped in last evening on our way home after a bit of gambling to have a nightcap. The bartender (blonde) was friendly and when we told her what we liked she recommended the Wit. It was quite a tasty brew, good spice level, though I did notice on the board after taking a few sips it was only 4.8%, not a very high content.
The issue was that after our initial beer order came we were completely ignored. Neither bartender ever checked up on us, they were both too busy talking to all the single male patrons, and then ours disappeared on a break a few minutes before we finished our beers. No one ever asked us how we were doing or if we wanted another beer, which made us feel rather unwelcome. I had placed money on the bar before then and it sat there for about 5 – 6 minutes and the other bartender (brunette) just completely ignored us, though she passed by quite a few times to talk to all the single male patrons at the bar. I had to actually get up and ask her if I could please pay my bill.
Note to bartenders/​management, you need to pay attention to all your paying customers, not just the men, we women tip good too!
We liked the beer, we may be back to give the place another try, not sure.

Nestled in the charming alcoholic friendly town of North Kansas City, Cinder Block Brewery awaits to serve fresh, craft beer. Cinder Block has never disappointed and has only gotten better with time. Since they’ve opened, they’ve added a huge patio area, greatly expanded the seating, and constantly have a BBQ food truck out front. Hell, the food truck will deliver your food to you inside so no time is wasted when you need a beer. They have a variety of amazing specials throughout the week such as $ 10 growler refills on Mondays. And, if you just can’t decide what you want to drink, get a flight and have one of everything! For one, I’m excited to see what this brewery continues to do as they grow.

As the Unilocal stars suggest, Cinder Block Brewery was just A-​OK.
The place itself was pretty simple — tables, bar, barrels lined up. Also a larger space to the left through an entryway, which is where I’m guessing the live music shows are located?
My friend and I shared a flight and then each ordered a pint of our favorite. The bartender didn’t really engage in conversation. No suggestions, history, details, or anything of that sort. I normally do expect at least a little bit of interaction when it comes to breweries. I’m not talking about telling me your life story, but we’re here to learn a little bit about the brews.
I wasn’t too impressed with any of the beers. I normally go for IPAs, but the ones offered didn’t do much for it. Surprisingly, my favorite ended up being the Northtown Native, which is a lighter beer. It left a great after taste (hoppy finish) and just seemed more distinct in flavor.
If I was a KC local then yeah, I’d probably come here again. But I’m not… so, I wouldn’t make this a must-​stop place during my next visit to KC.

Upon further review, Cinder Block is the undisputed heavy weight champion of the KC craft beer scene. Like Hulk Hogan in his prime they continue to pummel their challengers. They have the best variety matched with the best quality of beers. Also they recently opened an event room as well as an outdoor patio and they have plans to start canning their beers for distribution. There are some other great breweries in town and more opening each day but as of the date on this review Cinder Block is wearing the gold belt.

Love this place!!! Great hangout area for small or large groups and I love that it’s local and they make cider too. I’ve had the French, English Cherry and Champagne ciders and my fave is the English Cherry. It’s very good and they are the only place (that I know of) that makes their own ciders. The décor is very modern and I really like the feel here. Everyone has a good time and they have an awesome food truck that comes here and serves BBQ (don’t know if they switch food trucks). Their cider keeps me coming and it’s really darn good.

Been here twice: once for a classy Saturday of day drinking and once for Trivia on Tuesday.
They have a wide variety of beers and usually two ciders. While I can’t drink the beer (thanks to being gluten-​free) I’ve heard they are decent and you can buy a modestly priced flight to try everything. As for the cider, that’s where I live, they are yummy. They make a cider with cherry overtones which is good but the BEST thing they make is a champagne cider. It manages to be dry, tart, sweet, and bubbly all at the same time. I could drink it alllllll day.
Trivia on Tuesday was fun. You should go. Nice atmosphere and a decently fun crowd to play with. Plus, if you win the bonus question at the end of each round you get a free beer/​cider (up to $ 5).

«I have never had a beer I didn’t like.» — My friend and boss who got me addicted to Cinder Block.
He was absolutely right too. Cinder Block makes some amazing beers and ciders. I love their Barleywine (seasonal) and they had a killer champagne cider (sadly gone for the season). Their beers are crafted beautifully. They run the gambit from hoppy to mellow. They have a great growler club (I suggest the steel growler) and refills are pretty inexpensive for such a well crafted product. They have a cheap fill night every Monday. Tuesdays is Geeks Who Drink Trivia (Pteradactyl (sp?) ROCKS!). Live music is on the weekends. They also have a new added bonus, FOOD TRUCKS! Tuesdays is Boyers Famous Meatballs and at least three nights is Back Racks BBQ.
Now if this isn’t enough to get you there, there are the people. Friendly, knowledgeable, super social and NOT named Danielle (My favorite Beer Babe is the wonderful Melissa). The vibe of the place is very relaxed local. Go, socialize, play some trivia, listen to some music, eat some food, but above all, DRINK SOME BEER!

Cinder block is a great addition to the brewery scene in Kansas City, especially nice as it adds to the north of the river scene.
Pros: excellent ciders — all of their ciders are delicious and easy to drink, the atmosphere is friendly and fun, the taproom is spacious — lots of seating and a long bar. Food trucks outside often and live music some Saturdays.
Cons: the beers just aren’t great in my opinion. I will continue to visit but the other taps I’ve tried just don’t do it for me, thus the 3 star rating.
But go and see if the beer is your thing. Drink local.

I came here with my teammate on a Friday around 12pm (when they opened). We were actually here for the Back Rack BBQ just parked outside but decided to grab a beer while eating the Back Rack BBQ. The tables here all had about five chairs so this was definitely a group-​friendly bar. There were additional tables in the back as well. We sat at the bar and the girl behind the bar was nice and friendly.
My teammate ordered the Weathered Wit ($ 5) for both of us. They had other choices but the Weathered Wit was one of the popular choices according to the girl. There were two big flat screen TVs on each end of the bar as well. The Weathered Wit tasted good and reminded me of Bluemoon but that was just me.
This place was great and wouldn’t mind coming back to try the other beer on their menu.

When I moved back to Kansas City after living on the west coast for graduate school all I ever heard about from friends was how great Cinder Block Brewery was, especially when I would talk about how many great tasting rooms there were in Seattle. That being said, I love KC more than any city around, and I can’t express how thrilled I was to hear that a vibrant local beer scene was developing at such a rapid speed in my absence.
When I finally got to Cinder Block, however, it didn’t quite live up to all the hype. Was the tasting room cool? yes. Was it affordable and fun? yes. Was the beer the best I’ve ever tasted? no. I give it four stars because while the experience overall is fun, and I would certainly go back to try their seasonals — not enough of the beers were where I’d like them to be to give it the 5 stars I’d like to give Cinder Block. Time might change this though, and if you haven’t been you should definitely get out there and support the local craft beer scene.

Favorite brewery in Kansas City (technically North KC). No diggity, no doubt.
While in KC, I hit up 7 breweries in 3 days. I realize that’s not normal. I realize I have issues. I realize this may be a problem. But in my defense, it was my birthday! And I love beer! So uh… I should get what I want for the celebration of me.
All things considered, I was able to try a wide variety of the sudsy offerings in KC and Cinder Block blew the others away in terms of actual beer, atmosphere and service.
I was able to try everything they had on tap — thank you, samplers! I had Collapse (American Barleywine), Cinder Noël (Belgian Strong Dark Ale), Coffee Hop’d (English Brown Ale) Weathered Wit (Witbeer that was my least favorite of the bunch), Block IPA (American IPA which I think is one of their most popular brews), Paver’s Porter, and Isle of Cinder Wee Heavy (Scotch Ale). They also had a couple of good ciders on tap Cider Block French and Cider Block English (Cherry).
My favorite beer they had on tap was the Hop Maven #4, a Belgian IPA that got the job done with a ton of floral notes. Beer pints are just $ 5 – 6.50 and for a nice flight of 6 — just $ 8! What a steal.
BYOF — Bring Your Own Food but they do have free popcorn and some bar snacks! Wooza! Plus they sometimes have a food truck outside on the weekends.

The craft beer scene in Kansas City is creepin’ on a come up and Cinder Block is leading the way with some solid beers.

We have been here a few times to enjoy the great beer they brew. The last time I went it was to grab something from the food truck that is parked outside on Saturdays. While I was waiting for my food order I was treated to the sounds of the awesome live music that they had on a Saturday night.
Although you can enjoy Cinderblock beers at a few different places in KC, it is worth the trip to the Northland to enjoy this awesome brewpub. It always seems to have just enough people to make it fun and you can’t beat the great food you can order from the food truck on Saturday nights. Relaxed, casual atmosphere with a nice selection of craft brews.

I had no idea what to expect of this place before going in. I had many friends who went here regularly, which is a bit out of the way from their homes so I wondered what the fuss was about.
Walking in I found the place to be very low key. No one greets you when you walk in and that is okay. It actually helped me get acclimated to my surroundings instead of feeling immediately like I had to order on the spot. The place was pretty full, especially for a week night and being within an hour from close. I took some time and checked out the couches first. There were fun little puzzle games on the coffee table in front of the couch. The overall ambiance was pretty casual. Not too loud but just enough background noise and conversation to feel right at home.
At the bar I got a flight for a pretty good price. It seems like they have some specials going on regularly too, so the cost was well worth it. I found myself in love with their porter. Normally I find porters to pale in comparison to stouts but this one had the perfect balance of flavor and drinkability. Some of the people I was with had brought in their own food (pizza was delivered), which I guess is a thing that is okay. I opted for the $ 1 bar snacks which included things like Goldfish cheese crackers.
After my first visit in October 2014, I’ve been a couple of times since and I would gladly come again anytime I had at least another person to kick back and relax with. Even though I don’t live in the North KC area it is well worth the trip to visit Cinder Block and maybe hit up Screenland Armour along with it.

Wait a minute. After 100 or so years of rolling the sidewalks up at 6 pm, is North Kansas City about to become cool?
I finally checked out Cinder Block on a balmy Saturday afternoon. I’ve often wondered how a small brewery that doesn’t serve food could survive on a back street in stodgy North Kansas City (ok, we’re not really stodgy, but I think that’s our reputation). Well, on this particular day, they were doing just fine. Nearly every table and couch was full of folks soaking up some really good suds and generally having a great time. Two birthday parties were in progress, and it was only 5:00.
Both the beertenders (they don’t serve anything else) were friendly and glad to describe what they were pouring for us beginners. A flight of six 4-​ounce pours (their regulars, no substitutions) is $ 8. That and a pint of their coffee stout ($ 6) had me feelin’ FINE! I’m not a beer geek; I’m not gonna describe all the beers I tried, but the coffee stout reminded me a lot of Founder’s Breakfast Stout, and that’s high praise coming from me.
As I said, they don’t really serve any food. You can buy a scoop of nuts or pretzels for a dollar, but they let you bring in any food you want. Now, there are a lot of good places in the neighborhood with takeout, but the easiest, and one of the best things to do is stop at the Back Rack BBQ truck (review pending) parked right out front on your way in.
The crowd was surprisingly young for the neighborhood, mostly millennials, but the vibe isn’t so trendy that one their parents’ age felt old and out of place. «Cinder Block» describes it well, the noise level can get up there, but it’s happy noise. And on weekends, it becomes live musical noise at 6:00, which is even better!

Whew, I finally made it! As its in the same neighborhood as my work, I knew this was overdue for quite sometime.
Cinder is a great spot to have a beer and get together with some friends. The set up is open and clean. There’s some different snacks for a buck and you can actually bring in food from some places nearby to enjoy as well. I don’t recall if it was seasonal but my absolute favorite was a cherry cider they had! Beer flight was good as well and really showcased what they offered.
Cinder Block is solid.
