The Perfect Parrot

Do not take your parrot here for grooming. I used to, but the last time I took my parrotlet here in December he had to be admitted to emergency veterinary care costing over $ 600 as the result of a botched beak grooming. My little parrotlet fainted twice during the night (probably from internal bleeding), and was vomiting up blood first thing in the morning in addition to being very weak. It was only due to an emergency intensive care overnight stay that he is still alive.
It’s not worth the money savings — please take your pets to a trained specialist for any procedures they need, this store will say they can handle it, but they can’t. I will not be coming back here and will be recommending my friends avoid this place too, it’s not worth risking your pets life!

This is a wonderful store that specializes in parrots only. They have a number of different, healthy and nice-​looking parrots at the store some of which (bearded barbet) we had never ever seen before. They sell all the toys, food and accessories needed for any parrot. The owner and staff are very knowledgeable and very helpful. We took our green-​cheeked conure, Marley, for grooming there and they did an excellent job. They also did a DNA test and we’re waiting to see if Marley is a boy or a girl! From now on, we’ll use their services often and will buy the necessary supplies and food from this wonderful store.

Went to check out this shop for the first time today. The owner Kim was very knowledgable and kind. All of the birds were beautiful and looked happy and healthy. Kim gave us excellent advice for our budgie and we will definitely be coming back!

I love this bird store! Kim was very helpful and same with the other two girls that worked there! i bought my Timneh African Grey from here and i am picking it up in about a week or two. I’m really excited about my baby coming home and Kim said I could come and visit my new baby anytime! they have an amazing selection of toys and cages! i definitely recommend this store for anyone who is interesting in buying a bird, buying a new cage, buying toys, or even just buying food or treats. they also have a wide variety of birds! I can’t wait to pick up my baby! :)

Is without a doubt the best birth supply Amherst store in the entire Valley! If you want supplies, you come here. You want a new bird as a companion? You come here! Does your bird need grooming? You come here!

I as well as many people in my family have been loyal patrons to this stop for some time now. Although I appreciate the location and convenience factor that caters to the needs of my bird, I am literally fed up with being mistreated for no apparent reason! Many people within my circle also feel the same way! Any business owner knows that the key to any business… is…CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Here are the pros and cons of this convenient parrot shop.
PROS:
–Excellent selection of toys, supplies and cages.
–Birds look healthy and happy.
–Decent Bird Grooming Services and well priced.
–Convenient location in the Valley.
CONS:
–Rude and cold attitude from the staff (only the older blonde lady who is the owner I believe and a petite gal).
–Never gave eye contact or greet you.
–Treat you indifferently if your bird was bought from them or not. They need an attitude adjustment. The lack of customer service and unfriendly behavior makes one very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. The guys who work there are extremely knowledgeable, very courteous and accommodating. If necessary, please only deal with the guys there (regardless of your gender– the women seem to treat any person rudely-​not sure why!.)
–Their toys and supplies are pricey compared to other bird stores/​pet stores.
–Not all the cages are very clean, could be better for health reasons.
–They offer boarding, but due to the ongoing negative attitude I no longer feel comfortable being a loyal patron to this shop or will ever consider leaving my bird there!
Overall, a very disappointing outcome and lack of customer service overrides any level of convenience. Enough is enough!

In a nutshell,
The store is beautiful, clean and they have lots of wonderful bird toys and products!
The young staff are very friendly and sweet.
The older lady is stand offish and has an unpleasant attitude. Its one of those situations where things that are beautiful on the outside (the store itself) aren’t the most pleasant on the inside (the lady’s attitude).
I want so much to love this place because honestly the walls of toys look amazing and its a really pretty bird store BUT I have to give it a 2 because an employee or owners attitude IS what makes people come back, attitude IS what gives people either a bad or good feeling in your store. I’ve gotten negatives vibes from that lady a few times now and once from her husband (who has been pleasant before).
The first time I came here was great but at this point, I am not going back.

In 2010 i brought my beautiful boy merlin, my citron cockatoo that i had 24 years to Pete and Kim to have him groomed. I knew Pete and Kim well, they are good people. I boarded merlin many times. Anyway i brought merlin in to be groomed and the next thing i knew, he dropped dead to the floor when pete was grooming him. I found out later pete had chased him around the back area and merlin bit him twice very hard but pete grabbed him anywAy. A person who used to work there –she was holding merlin for Pete at the time, wrote me later and said she was so upset by what he had done and how aggressive he was grabbing Merlin in the back that it was a big reason why she stopped working there. My poor baby. Pete should have picked up that it was too much for merlin that day. He had been around merlin years. Then when he was being groomed i thought merlin looked stressed out to me –i didnt know what happened in the back room-​and when pete got to the beak i said let him be and pete said no I’ve got him lets do it now. I NECER SHOULD HAVE AGREED.2 minutes later my son, my darling baby boy laid dead at my feet. That was 5 years ago. I cry every day. Pete is a good person but he killed my baby boy. Just a coincidence? Maybe. But i think back many years earlier when i was speaking to a woman at a health food store. She asked where i had my bird groomed. I said with kim and pete. She said «oh god they killed my bird! Dont let them groom your bird!!! i came to pick him up after grooming and he was laying at the bottom of the cage dead…»
I said trust me these people know what they are doing.
If only i had listened to her my baby boy, my beautiful son, my partner, my everything, would be on my shoulder now.
I cry every day for my son. Even after 2 other birds. I get sick to my stomach whenever i am close to their store.
If i can save one life by sharing this story it was worth it.
Well meaning folks or not, Pete killed my son.

I purchased a cockatiel for my son and family. The Best place for quality birds.
I grew up with many small birds and I know little more about them than most people.
If you visit this place you would understand the owner loves birds and really cares about bird’s physical and mental health.
My family LOVES our little yellow feathered friend. My son named her «Cutie Pie».

So… I recently purchased an African Grey from another location in Burbank and I wanted to try this location again…
Walking in… I noticed they have a lot of new toys, cages and birds/​parrots. I asked for help from a gentlemen which was the owner. He was very kind and helped me find some toys, ladders to go with my baby grey. Completely satisfied I came back the next day to buy more toys and etc for my baby grey and was approached by the same lady that had helped us a while back (which the previous negative review was for), so… When I asked her for couple items to get for me, she kindly wrote my number down to call me back on it; since they were out of stock.
Overall… I am Very satisfied and I will come back and recommend this location for all parrot needs. Thanks again. See you soon!

The Perfect Parrot is a great local shop with a wide variety of nutritious foods and a huge wall of toys, bowls and branches. Pretty much anything you’ll need to keep your feathered friend healthy and happy.
They also sell various parrots ranging from lovebirds and cockatiels up to African Grays and Macaws. Their prices are higher than other local shops, but they do screen every bird for common diseases and offer lifetime grooming (feathers, beaks, nails).
If you don’t have much experience raising a parrot, this is the shop I recommend you buy from. The hand-​raised birds are healthy and happy which is the best way to start a relationship that can last anywhere from 20 — 75 years.
If you do have a parrot, they offer some great food options and boarding.
I’ll be back for sure.

Staff is great, but the owner has a lousy attitude. Suggested that I purchase millet in a larger quantity pre made pack. I have a tiny bird and 10 is just fine, will last me for a long time. After I asked for 10, treated me like I didn’t exist. Spent $ 26.00 on other stuff, but I guess I made her life miserable… Never again…

I bought my African Grey from Kim and Peter 2 years ago. This is the finest bird store I have ever been to. They make a lot of their own special food treats and absolutely love birds. If you buy a bird from here — free grooming for life. Also no need for blood test if you border a bird bought from here. Otherwise you need one. I really like that — when I go out of town I feel safe having my bird stay at a healthy, friendly environment. It’s a good idea to make an appointment for grooming and bordering during busy times of the year. Bring a towel for grooming days and if you border, bring your birds’ favorite toy. Also there is a discount on cages and such if you buy a bird there. All are hand fed and well taken care of. The entire staff just loves birds. One caution (and this is a good thing) like some comments, Kim and Pete are serious about birds and who they sell to. They want to make sure that the person buying knows and will take good care and not just shove the bird in a cage in a corner. So this is for serious bird nuts like me who treat their pet as a family member. There are many free standing birds in the store — some are big macaws who are friendly but please keep young ones clear of biting. Unless you know how to handle birds or check with the staff, you shouldn’t try to pet any bird.

Came here for the second time… Loved it and Loco loved Kim who helped with his pin feathers! Can’t wait to get the DNA results back! Thank you for amazing service!

OMG!!! I was drawn into the store with that huge wall of toys and sent disrespected onto Riverside Drive by that angry, rude and dismissive woman who I think is the owner.
Someone may want to consult their physician for a hormone test. Just saying.

From the reviews this place sounds pretty neat. I wish I would have seen this post on Unilocal before I bought my bird at dog house and bird house .
My bird bites and is very timid, I hope this parrot store can give me some tips.

How can anyone possibly give this place one star? Some of these stories… c’mon people. There’s two sides to every story.
I’m a returning customer and just purchased my second bird there. This store is great! It has more bird toys and variety than I’ve seen at any other bird store and I’ll be back for sure. Love my new lovebird, he’s so adorable and tame!

Knowing that I was in the market for a parrot, I visited several shops before taking the plunge. The Perfect Parrot was where I ended up buying my first feathered friend. I enjoy the communal environment and the obvious passion for these animals shared by the owners and their staff. There’s a small community of people who visit the shop with their pets regularly which made me feel very good about doing business there. I also love the open environment with so many birds milling about in the open. I considered this a major commitment and was frankly a bit terrified, but the staff put me at ease with their encouragement and valuable information. I really enjoy the place and will be back often. I haven’t seen a better selection of toys anywhere, by the way. If they renamed themselves Parrot Heaven, it would fit just as well.

I dont trust taking my african grey bird anywhere else for grooming besides this place.
You would find anything you need for any size of bird you have at this place…
When it comes down to the prices, a lot of people said that the prices are high at this place. I think those are people that have never gone to any other bird stores in their life because i think that the prices are very reasonable specially when you compare the prices to other bird shops

Extremely intelligent, stunningly beautiful, interactive/​fun, animated, descendants of the personal friends of such figures as Napoleon and Andrew Jackson, love-​seeking (but sometimes overly demanding), and happy.
Did I just describe some aristocratic-​baron family that recently moved into a mansion in Malibu? Perhaps, but in this case I was talking about parrots. Yes, that’s right: parrots. Parrots are not idiot «bird brains» and are in fact one of the top ten most intelligent animals in the world. That’s more than we can stay for half of LA’s population!
If you are a parrot/​bird owner or simply in the market for one, The Perfect Parrot is a safe bet that you will find what you need. Although a small space, The Perfect parrot is filled to the brim with bird feed, cages, toys, perches, bulk nuts/​berries/​dried fruits, etc. Whatever your bird may need, you can bet that The Perfect Parrot will be the perfect source. Granted, this isn’t a PetsMart with an overly commercialized chain store selection; but who needs that anyway? The Perfect Parrot provides individual support and customer care, allowing for the «mom and pop» feel that we all love; but don’t experience enough of.
Stepping foot into The Perfect Parrot is like stepping into a zoo aviary. This isn’t a «pet store» where you will simply find finches or cockatiels; The Perfect Parrot specializes in unique, exotic, and topical birds (they even had a Toucan and it wasn’t a box of Froot Loops!). Prices are a little steeper than other places ($ 150 for a lovebird) so if you are only basing a decision on price, then this may not be the store for you. However, their prices reflect care that other stores won’t provide. For example, that $ 150 lovebird has been tested for illnesses that the species is specifically prone to but other stores don’t test for. Clearly, it worth to spend more on a tested, healthy bird than save a few bucks for an unhappy, possibly sick bird.
Customer service was very knowledgeable and kind but I can see how some people may not have a good experience. If you walk in simply trying to be annoying and squawk at the birds, then of course you aren’t going to get great service. The employees can tell if you are a true bird lover/​owner or not. Instead, walk in with respect and knowledge, and you are golden. I was engaged in conversation by a couple of employees and the owner even suggested I be allowed to view the birds in the back of the store not on display. That’s service!
The Perfect Parrot is a wonderful neighborhood shop which transports you into a tropical bird paradise. And hey, you’ll leave with a smart, handsome, loyal friend. Can’t say that often, can you?!
