Been working with Rick and Lou for several years now and they are the Best! The place is clean and the vibe is good. Not to mention that I pump my gas as well. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone!

On Thanksgiving eve day, our car broke down right in front of this gas station in the middle of the intersection during rush hour — stressful situation and crazy bad luck. Little did we know at the time that we were extremely lucky to have landed in Rick’s kind and capable hands. He immediately helped us and also fixed the car in one day for an extremely reasonable price. Rick and his shop saved Thanksgiving as far as we are concerned, and we are truly thankful and impressed.

I don’t usually write Unilocal reviews but this guy was so rude that I feel compelled to. I came in with my truck that was overheating so it was urgent and I was way out of my normal area, so I pulled into the first mechanic I could find. I don’t mind that he couldn’t take care of me right away, that’s understandable, but he was so rude about it and then wouldn’t even tell me another place to try. Finally he pointed in a general direction. Wow. Thanks for your help. Would it have been so hard to say this? «I’m sorry I’m too busy to help. There are a few place right around the corner. Maybe one of them could help you.» Maybe try that next time someone comes to you for help.

Great great great customer service from Lou’s Unocal!!! The owner and employees are very nice and very helpful. Felt like a time warp from the 1950’s– genuine hometown service for oil change and getting gas. The service is fast pace with a big touch of sincerity. Always happy to go to this gas station. Thank you!!!

I am pretty clueless about mechanics and where to take my car for repairs, so when I looked online and found these guys, I was really hoping they would be as great as the reviews said and now I can totally say I’m a happy customer myself!
Lou provided me with awesome customer service and I felt at total ease leaving my car in these guys hands!
I will definitely be recommending them to family and friends!!!

Rick and Lou could not be nicer. To find honest and decent mechanics is like find a treasure of gold! These guys were super.

Mike has worked on our cars for the past 7 yrs… We are a small dealership down the street and Rick and Mike always make sure to help us out as much as they can. They do get really busy most times, but to me thats a good sign, a good thing is always worth the wait. They can manage any type car and even if they cant they will find someone that can throughout their resources .

01-​May-​15 I don’t believe in reviews from anyone, but this was one of the worse experiences I ever had with a station. I was recommended by a very reliable honest friend of mine, but nothing is perfect and theres always room for errors and mistakes. I arrived at this station in the mid afternoon and requested to speak with Lou. I approached him with my problem with my car and his first response was rude negative and didn’t know how to communicate with guys from other parts of the U.S. where there are cultural background differences of expressions. He stated to me calm down with your energy which is very unprofessional. Us guys from the east coast mentality are not laid-​back which is called pure lazy attitude/​behavior to us. I needed my car serviced ASAP so I went ahead to take care of the problem. I was charged $ 170 and the problem was never address even after repeated visits. I would never recommend this place to anyone unless they are able to respect people professionally from other parts of the country and accept others that were raised with a total different mentality level then themselves. We are all human being and are unique individuals and deserve positive respect and professionalism no matter where we come from in the world… Thank-​you!

I called ahead to make sure these guys could do an oil change on my car. I arrive half an hour later and stood in the garage for 15 minutes. A technician actually passed right by me to walk through the entryway and never even looked up at me or acknowledged that I was there. Not a hello, a good day, kiss my a$$ or anything. So I left and went to another place.

After more bad experiences with mechanics than I’m willing to remember, I found Lou’s Union 76 about five years ago through a friend’s recommendation. And since most folks really need only three service professionals — a good lawyer, a good doctor, and a good mechanic — I feel I finally hit the Trifecta!
Quite simply, Lou’s truly is As Good As It Gets. Rick runs the repairs and crew with extraordinary knowledge and experience, always explaining repair options while offering extremely reasonable cost estimates for each choice. He and his crew always go the extra mile to ensure the high quality of their repairs and the over-​all performance of your car. I cannot think of one area in which they have been even slightly remiss. They are courteous, helpful, and friendly beyond all expectations. And above all, as honest as the day is long — no tricks, no shortcuts, no hustles. They have earned my complete trust.. . and I’m pretty sure there hasn’t been anyone as trustworthy since Abraham Lincoln.
There is no other way to say it — Lou, Rick, and the crew are the best there is!

Rude workers. After spending $ 40 on gas I tried to put air in my tires. The air let more out than in, I asked one of the attendents for assistance only to have him insult me, not good buisness, never going back. Old man in the garage needs to learn some manners. I will take my $ 80 a week somewhere else

I dread the idea of not being able to take my car here. Gave this place a try on the strong recommendation of a friend and I’m passing it on here.
It’s everything you’d want in a neighborhood garage: no hard sells, no pushing work that isn’t needed, no salesmanship, just straight talk from Rick. I’ve never felt they’ve taken longer than needed, and never had to wait to bring car in either. Prices are honest and fair. For a job that isn’t their forte (ex, catalytic converter) they sent me to place that was also fair. Convenient too– you can drop off or pick up car after hours with the station attendant.

Fast and Easy service!!! In and out great job guys! I work around the corner from lou From 7am-​7pm so the guys did a favor by picking my car up from me servicing it and dropping it off. Can’t be more satisfied with their work and customer service.

Rick here is the man I came here for a smog for my car and they took care of me with no hassle and with no problems. Very Pleasant to do business here and I will be coming here for more car care.

What can I say? I love Rick and everyone at Lou’s Unocal. I’ve been taking my car (s) to Lou’s ever since I first moved to Los Angeles, and they’ve never steered me wrong. Rick and his team are honest, thoughtful and always make sure that your car is in tip-​top running order. They never recommend unnecessary repairs, and are always happy to try and squeeze you in for an appointment (these guys are busy!). Rick and Lou were also very helpful when I had to quickly sell a car a few years ago. If you own a Toyota, you’re in luck! It’s their specialty. Even though I’ve long since moved away from the neighborhood, I always make a point to drive back to the Valley to get my oil changed at Lou’s.

When my car started smoking on the drive into work yesterday morning, I had it towed to Lou’s 76 on the recommendation of a coworker. I was not disappointed. Rick took a look and instantly figured out the problem, showed me the source, and said he would have it done in a couple of hours. On top of all this, since I work down the street, he gave me a ride (with good conversation including recommendations for the best breakfast places in the area!) and even offered to pick me up when the car was done!
The price was reasonable and stayed true to the estimate. Super easy pickup — your keys and bill go to the cashier so you can grab your car after hours. So glad to have found an honest, quick mechanic so close to the office, and the fact that it is family owned makes it even better. Go to Lou’s!

Recently returning to this station I was surprised to see they have fewer mechanics
and higher prices plus a longer wait for service. Rick is negative and not very
accommodating to customers, and charges $ 50 for a smog check, Joe’s Smog check only charges $ 35 along with positive courteous service. I would not recommend this station, better to shop around for prices & repairs.

It’s hard to find a car repair shop one can trust, but I feel like I have. I called around and priced parts for my car and they were the most reasonable, so combine that with the Unilocal reviews and I decided to give them a shot a couple of weeks ago to replace some belts and do some other work my 15 year old car needed. He found more affordable solutions to some of my car problems, which I appreciated.
Cut to last week and backing out of my space on my way to work, I took off my own side mirror. Aarrrggghhh. I drove right to here, and they said they could get me an aftermarket part to save me some money and could do it by the time I got off work. They also took me to and picked me up from the Metro, which was a big plus. Rick was a really nice guy and a big help.
They will definitely be my go-​to now and I would highly recommend them.

I had spent a long time trying to find a mechanic I trusted — and found what I was looking for at Lou’s. His employees take the time to really explain what they are going to repair on your car and why. I have nothing but good things to say about them. His prices for repairs are competitive for the quality I have received.
I used to have an office right across the street from them, and that was the reason I originally gave them a shot, but we have moved since then, and I still take my car to them, and will as long as they exist.
