California Auto Repair

At first I was raving to everyone about this place. I needed an oil change and while I get free ones at the dealership, the pain of dropping it off and getting a ride and yada yada just sounded like waaaay too much work for a Thursday, so after stumbling across a coupon for a $ 19.00 oil change, I figured, hey, why not, let’s giove the little guy a try.
Sure enough, they seemed to go above and beyond for me and did a pretty kick ass job in record turn around time and I thought, THIS is a great place. As I was checking out, the owner made a few comments about how times were really hurtin money wise and well, the little guy, just trying to do a good job and all and honestly I felt kinda bad for him and looked at it as even more reason to turn people onto his biz and help a guy out.
A few months later I was at my dealership getting something serviced and they mentioned that I needed a Serpentine belt and wanted to charge me around $ 180 for the job. Now for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s pretty damn important. It’s like the lifeline of your car and once that breaks or snaps, you are screwed. And while I am no mechanic, I also know that $ 180 is a bit steep for a belt.
So I decided to go back to C.A.R. and give them a shot at fixing it, but they too wanted almost $ 180 and said that there is no way that anyone will do it for less and then went on to say, «The part itself is almost $ 180 and we are throwing in the labor for free.»
DINGDINGDINGDING!
Do I look like a «chick» to you bucko! Clearly anyone with a brain knows that the dealer is always going to be the highest and the mom and pops usually fair in about 30−40% lower, so when this guy started in with this LIE, oh NO, all sympathy for his «poor me ass» went out the door.
I then had my friend call his long time mechanic to see just how much the actual belt cost… and drum roll please…$ 65.00
So I confronted C.A.R. with this and he laughed in my face and rolled his eyes like you silly silly girl. I then turned around and left and took my car to my new mechanic and had the entire job done for $ 80 buckaroos with parts and labor. They also did the job in 20 minutes and were totally cool!
$ 180 my arse. And you wonder why your business is failing!
