Been coming here for over a year now, pretty much the only place I wanted sushi from. I got my friends going to this place and even took some family. Nice cozy place and not far from me. The food was always really good and they have a variety of roll but some similar to others(like the rainbow and Marilyn Monroe roll). The food has never been a problem except now it doesn’t seem like much effort is being put into it. The service however has always been give or take. Depending on who you get. Couple of times I’ve gotten really good servers and they’re attentive and on their game and I don’t think they get recognized for that. Other times we get some servers that don’t even pay attention to their customers. I went to dinner with my bf here on Saturday night and it’s the last time we’ll be going there. Our server was friendly, but there’s been times when we have gotten her and she seems like she doesn’t care but that wasn’t the case this time. After bringing our drinks she asked if we wanted appetizers so we ordered edemame but she forgot to put our order in because she asked us a second time and I saw her go to the register and put it in and then when we got the appetizer it was slightly cold. Then we order our sushi which came out pretty fast and we got 4 rolls in total. We got 3 rolls and we knew we were missing one but we weren’t rushing anything. Before we finished those I noticed the sushi chef had placed a plate of sushi on the counter where the servers pick them up and it sat there for 10 minutes. Of course the chef only knows what table it is but then the server picked it up and went to the register then brought it to us and I’m pretty sure she went to check who’s it was and it was cold by the time we got it. It was a tempura roll that shouldn’t be cold. Throughout the whole time we were there she was talking to who I assume to be a «manager”(who was yelling and being loud during a game on tv and drinking) and the sever was being very attentive to another table because it appeared she knew them she would sit and talk with them. We waited another 10 min finally got the check and had to wait another 15 min for her to take the check. I mean throughout the whole visit she wouldn’t even glance at us to see if we needed anything or were ready to pay. Sucks because we did enjoy this place but the quality and service is going downhill.

I’ve actually been wanting to check this place out for awhile now because I always pass by and was curious. I finally got the chance to try it out and man was I let down. The menu looks big but it doesn’t seem like they put too much effort in making your sushi rolls. They were very bland. I don’t normally use soy sauce and using soy sauce this time around was the only thing making it better. The staff was rude upon walking in — wasn’t greeted or anything. Finally someone came by and said sit anywhere, which we proceeded to do. Then 5 minutes later she brought over a menu and then another 5 minutes passed she took our order. The food came out relatively fast, I’ll give them that but how long does it take to make less than average sushi? To top it off the staff(sushi chef included) were all talking about topics that were completely inappropriate while they were at work, let alone when they have customers in earshot. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Save your money and your tastebuds and try out another sushi joint.

My Family and I ate here. First of all, the A/C was not working which made it very uncomfortable to eat. Then, we saw the sushi chef wipe his nose with his hand. The sushi roll was serve to us falling apart which made it difficult to eat. Not to mention, the terrible customer service, the waitress Jennifer was consistantly talking to an old man at the bar. We had a benefit of a doubt when we first came to this place, but now we will never return.

Ok. So here’s the deal… I’ll probably never be back. But only because I live no where around here and only stopped in to let traffic die down before I drove home. The quality is more than good enough and the service Josie provided was awesome and friendly. But the Sushi Chef«G» really made my visit. I asked for his Signature roll… I don’t know what it was… but it was awesome. had some sushi salmon and Ono which was great and then I decided to put G to the test again. I ordered his favorite Hand Roll… again… no idea what is was other than a sushi roll of awesomeness rolled up in some seaweed. So why the raving review… because«G» was not scared to go out on a limb and prepare some rolls for a knucklehead that gave him extremely vague instructions. That tells me he is confident and knows what he’s doing. Give it a try… I may be wrong, but I don’t think so.

One of my new favorite Japanese restaurants. We went for the first time on a Wednesday around 2:00 pm. The service was fast and friendly. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, spicy scallop roll, and an Alaska roll, all of which I would recommend. The ambience is very relaxed with dim lighting. The pricing is average for a Japanese restaurant.

Place rocks. I don’t want to know how much I spend here per month. Jen is the greatest server there has ever been. She can wait over 10 tables at once without breaking a sweat. The food is awesome, but I would come here just for the service and friendly atmosphere. The girls here work so hard and the sushi chefs are on point. I typically tip double what I would at a great restaurant. I hope this review stays up because I want to see Rokn Sushi do well. Everyone in the valley should visit here for the food and atmosphere.

Relaxed ambiance. Sushi bar, booths, and tables. Good preparation. Sashimi and a couple of roll, all very tasty and good service. I have to try more rolls soon. Owner Brian usually at your service. Check it out. On Roscoe Blvd west of the 405 at Woodley.

Nice staff, good food, questionable menu descriptions. We came in for a week day lunch and noticed immediately the house was understaffed. However despite running around hectically, our waitress was very polite, pleasant, and attentive! The udon and BSC Roll were good, but the Animal Roll was made with overcooked rice, small in portion size, and not as described on the menu. Overall, an average experience but will not return any time soon.

Terrible Service, my server was Jennifer. She’s probably the worst server I ever had. I don’t know if she was having a bad day or what but she was always worry about her friends instead of her actually customers. I guess what made me upset was that I saw her sitting and chatting with her friends instead of coming to us to check in with us. Also she didn’t get out order right even though we told her three times… not remembering any of our orders. overall it felt like she didn’t know what she was doing. Overall try to avoid her service if you can. The food was okay but the main disappointment was the service.

Been about 4 times now — the place isn’t ever too packed when we’re there(7pm-8:30ish) but we’re never alone. we see they have a large sushi bar, PLUS a large beverage bar with many beers on tap and anything else you want– so we suspect they get busier the later the night goes on… the fish is always fresh and tasty. the portions good-sized and well crafted. servers have always been attentive to us and friendly. There have been some sushi items that came out a little less cool than we are accustomed to. not warm, but not cold-cold as we’d expect. honestly, I might simply chalk this up to a ‘less than frozen feeling’ we’ve experienced elsewhere — particularly late on a Saturday or anytime Sunday when the fishmarkets weren’t open — so you know the inventory has been stored overnight.(That’s just common with sushi, isn’t it?) Off the cuff, the location seems a little odd, but it’s near the Bud brewery and Van Nuys airport, down the road from a few car dealerships, so makes sense we guess. Don’t have a favorite roll or dish yet– guess we’ll have to visit again! Rok’n Sushi Date of last visit: February 20, 2016

Sushi Is good, Service is not. Lived in the area for a long time, but finally decided to try it. As mentioned everywhere else, service was not great, but the sushi was good enough for me to be back.

Worst experience ever. Arrived promptly at 12:00PM today and ordered the following items, Salmon Skin Salad, Spicy Tuna Roll and the Lobster Roll special. By 12:45PM no signs of any of the dishes I ordered. Told the waitress to cancel the order. Terrible service and terrible management. Avoid this place at all cost. Not recommended.

Being sushi fans and not finding many options in the Van Nuys area, my boyfriend and I decided to try Rok N’ Sushi one afternoon, although the exterior seemed a bit dreary and had kept us away in the past. Upon entering, I was actually surprised to see the interior as being more spacious and decent than it looked from the outside. There was no one to seat us, but then we looked over to the sushi chef behind the counter, who motioned for us to sit at any table. After a couple of minutes, a waitress appeared and took our happy hour drink orders. After looking over the menu, we both decided to order the sushi combination(chef’s choice) with spicy tuna rolls. We were served the usual miso soup and house green salad before our combination arrived. The tomato sitting on top of each of our dressing-drenched salads were frozen, and the miso soup was no different than ones you get at any mediocre sushi restaurant. Our sushi combinations then arrived, which consisted of a nice variety of large pieces of sushi, along with the spicy tuna rolls. Unfortunately, as I ate each one, an unpleasant fishy aftertaste lingered in my mouth at the tail-end of each bite, which happens when fish is NOT fresh at all and possibly even thawed out. I felt a little ill from the taste, which is something that I am not accustomed to experiencing when eating sushi. The thought of eating that same sushi combination again gives me a bit of a queasy feeling and so, you won’t find me eating there again.

The environment here is extremely chill with a hint of rage. Bartender Jenn has to be the best bartender/customer service I’ve ever experienced. She has had me laughing the whole time here overall A1 service, drinks, food, price. DOOOITTTTT

Walked in, not busy at all. No one greeted me, or told me to take a seat. Finally a sushi chef behind the counter said to sit anywhere as he looked agitatedly around for, who I assume, was the missing waitstaff. Took a seat and was brought a menu immediately I ordered edamame and water to start. It was good. The problem came with my waitress, after trying to get her attention multiple times as I was ready to go I was about to get up and get a check myself. She was at the bar having what must be a VERY interesting conversation with the bar tenant. With the amount of touching and flirting going on I’m shocked she knew anyone else was even there. It went so far that on the way to get my change she changed directions and followed the patron outside. She also had three other patrons at another table waiting on menus. The food was eh.

Easy and to the Unilocal points. Good sushi, service experience was OK. They weren’t that busy and we waited for about 15 – 20 minutes for our food. They need to change the music up! P. S we had to change our plates with the table next to ours because the plates that were originally placed on our table that«was ready» appeared to be a little contaminated.

Had a dinner date here and my server Alex(female) was on point with asking if we wanted something to drink, if we were ready to order, how did we like the food, etc. I appreciated that. My date ordered the Garlic Roll. It has fried onion on top with white fish I believe. I didn’t taste it. I’m not a fan of garlic sushi but he said it was really good. I’m sure it was he ate it in less than 5 mins TOPS! I ordered the Ultra Salmon roll that Alex recommended for me. It has salmon and cucumber inside the roll and salmon, smelt egg, and scallops outside with some sort of sauce. We also ordered miso soup which was good. Loved that it had spinach and not so much green onions which was a huge plus in my book. Overall, I had a great time and the sushi chef were cracking jokes and made us laugh, thank you for the experience. We or should I say I will be back again.
