C & S Television

Well… It finally happened. My beloved JVC LCoS went dark with flashing indicator lights. But who to call? Unilocal to the rescue! Searching for tv repair yielded C&S with a couple positive reviews for a knowledgeable tech. I called on a Friday & after explaining what the symptoms were, a tech was promised between 8 – 10 am on Saturday. Speed is truly good! A curtesy reminder call on Sat and Chu showed up just before 8am. So far so good! After showing the lightshow to Chu he set off to check the bulb. I explained that the bulb had been changed 6 months ago and was, indeed working fine before the set shuts down. Anyways, Chu showed me how a remanufactured bulb can be assembled incorrectly and cause a short even after working fine for several months. So I ordered a new JVC bulb and waited. OK, here’s where things get complicated: new bulb installed and I get a green screen. Bulb is working but no picture, just green. After some sleuthing on the net, it turns out that opening the back on a JVC triggers an HDMI shutdown to protect the copy protection. Hmmmm… Chu didn’t mention that could happen. Luckily, there is a fix available on the net boards for the «green screen of death».so…after accessing the service tech menu and resetting the HDMI port, all is well.
So C&S gets props for diagnosing the original problem, but one star down for not clueing me in on another by taking the back off the set.
The moral of the story: No remanufactured bulbs from here on out for me!

— They fixed my old Mitsubishi HD rear projection TV.

The friendliest TV repair man EVER!
Our 2 year old Panasonic LCD TV just blew out one day. We called C&S and they looked it up with Panasonic and found that it was still covered under warranty. After explaining the problem to them, we both guessed it was the bulb, so they ordered the part and scheduled a service call.
We were scheduled for sometime between 9 and 10 am, and promptly at 9 am, a sweet old man rang my doorbell. His name was Andy, and he’s the owner. 81 years old and tack sharp. He was thorough, friendly, knowledgeable, and within an hour, he had my TV up and running again.
He had wonderful conversations with me as he worked on the TV, and even vacuumed out the dust inside the TV. As intricate as all the TV parts were, he really knew his way inside all the parts, and worked efficiently. He connected our cable cords back together at the very end, and it was back to normal!
His wife, Shirley, runs the office and is also as friendly, helpful, and sweet. Such a charming couple. There’s something to be said about good old-​fashioned, mom and pops service, and these guys are top notch. The kind that’s not in it to make a big buck, but just because they enjoy doing it… if you’re 81 years old and fixing TVs, you gotta love it!
I highly recommend them for any TV labor you need done. =)
