A first come, first serve campsite in the middle of the Sierra National Forest. It’s «rustic» only if you’re used to car camping but felt pretty swank considering the location at the end of 4S81 Minarets Rd(right where it goes from being paved to unmaintained). There’s a ranger station right there and plenty of pit toilets and running water. Campsites also have picnic tables and a fire pit. The sites are pretty big and we managed to fit 5 tents and several floor sleepers with room to spare. Neighboring sites are a comfortable distance away. Saw several RVs and a motorcycle camping there as well. You get to share the site with some local free range cows — the best looking cows I’ve seen in a long time. They’ve got nice glossy coats and are not tame so don’t try to pet them. I’m not even sure they charge for staying there. We talked to several rangers including the one right there and they didn’t ask us for any money. No swimming at the site but there’s Granite Creek 2 miles up the road or another one along the road coming in(which is unpaved dirt and gravel).
