History

Established in 1914.

The factory opened on Anson Street in 1914. Julius H. Weil began manufacturing mattresses and boxsprings in Charleston 100 years ago. The Weil’s Mattress Co., Inc. operations moved to Meeting Street in the 1970’s, and then moved again in 2000 to a state-​of-​the-​art plant in North Charleston.

This fourth-​generation company remains family-​owned and operated by brothers Ritchie and Steve Weil. As the tradition of excellence continues, they’re proud of the fact that so many workers have been with the company for several decades. It’s this dedication to the Charleston area, repeat customers and a strong staff that has kept the company together for a century.

The factory is a 65,000 square foot marvel that employs some of the finest craftsmen and craftswomen in the world.

My husband, K.C., and I own and operate The Charleston Mattress. I grew up right here in the Lowcountry and still call this special place home.

We live within walking distance of our East Montague location, and our children often help out at the store.

K.C. and I believe in this place, and we believe in community. Helping to ensure that our American workers have manufacturing jobs is very important to us. And making sure that our friends, neighbors, relatives and clients sleep well on the best built mattresses in the world is our personal responsibility.
