Completely rude and not helpful to customers. Doesn’t even try to explain his pricing or help the customer understand a cheaper option with material or labor. Their attitude will harm their business more than their astronomical fees.

Had a boat trailer rebuilt here. One of the few experiences I have had in charleston with anything related to a boat that was a good experience. Andy did what he said in the amount of time that he said he’d do it and actually did more than he said he’d do for the same price. I’d send anybody his way for trailer work. It was old fashioned American quality service.

I was referred here to get a piece of machinery repaired. I don’t know anything about welding, but I showed them the problem, and they helped me understand what they would do. They made me feel comfortable. The work was performed quickly and looked good. Unfortunely because I don’t have much experience with such things, I promptly damaged the part trying to install it. They rectified my problem on the spot, no charge even though they should have. I have enjoyed every visit here. Good folks.

I had a similarly unfortunate experience with Fields. Sullen, unhelpful staff, several of whom will actually glare at you for walking in the door. Very odd, disorienting experience. Not recommended.

Ended up having two hugely opposing experiences with this place.
I had a small spot weld for a piece of brewing equipment that would have taken 2 minutes to weld. Rather than throw it away, I figured I’d support a local business and keep the part out of the landfill.
After calling around to other welding companies, the representative at fields seemed very willing to help. He told me they charge $ 99 per hour for aluminum welding and I made it clear that I was looking for a weld on an item worth $ 20.00 to replace but would only take 2 – 5 minutes max. He assured me they would work with me and that I should bring the item by (a 35 minute drive from where I live).
I then drove up north and arrived hopeful. As I walked into the welding shop there are 6 guys sitting around eating pizza and I proceed to say «I called about 40 minutes ago and spoke to a gentleman about fixing this piece of brewing equipment.» No reply… just stares. I then look around waiting for anyone to respond. Finally after that moment of WTF silence some woman in the back replied that the guys were all busy and that she could take down my information.
«OK»
I proceeded to re-​explain what I had discussed on the phone to her in front of the 6 mutes. One guy finally gets up and says: «We charge $ 99 an hour»
Me: «This isn’t an expensive or difficult part to repair, so that wouldn’t make sense to fix»
Me: «Is there any way you guys could take it and pop the one tiny spot weld when someone has a chance»
Mute 1: «Not much you can do for $ 19.95, best I can do is $ 50»
Me: «it’s worth $ 19.95, that just wouldn’t make any sense»
Mute 1: «sorry»
Me: «Glad you guys had me drive 35 minutes up here to tell me useless information, have a great day»
Obviously didn’t speak to anyone who owns this property. Lesson learned, get the name and information of the person who offers useful information to you before walking into a lack luster business such as Fields.
