The Shadow Chef

I order the curry chicken roti and macaroni pie. Both were horrible!!! I’m from NYC so maybe my expectation was to high. But $ 15 for a damn nasty chicken roti! I was very disappointed. The best part was the roti skin, which I’m sure they didn’t make. The pie was to oily and overcooked.

I found the Shadow Chef online after the original caterer I was going to use had a business trip scheduled at the last minute — he caters part-​time. I liked the ease of adding dishes to the basket. I was a bit anxiety-​ridden about not having tasted the food. This was for my birthday party and I really wanted it to be deelish. I ordered several heavy hors’doevres — spicy meatballs, crabcakes, coconut shrimp, chicken satay, beef patties and red beans and rice. All deelish. The crabcakes had a bit too much filling but were seasoned nicely — but full disclosure: I am a Maryland girl, born & bred, so when I make crabcakes they are 99% jumbo lump crabmeat with just enough filling to keep it from falling apart while cooking. I appreciated the fact that one of the items I wanted to order — the Carribean Punch — was listed on the website as «unavailable» but after I contacted TSC, they made 3 gallons for me. The food arrived hot and in enough time for my event. And the food tasted great the next day, too — we ate leftovers while watching the Super Bowl. Would definitely use them again. I would only suggest the offer more in the way of crudite and cheese platters — basically, cold appetizers.
