Description

Specialties

Connecting people to the source of Seattle’s drinking water, its unique cultural and natural history, inspiring confidence, stewardship and sustainability.

History

Established in 1901.

In the early 1900’s, Seattle developed the Cedar River as a municipal supply of water and hydroelectricity. During the 20th century, logging, mining, railroads, and dam construction transformed the landscape. Today, Seattle’s vision to acquire, restore, and protect the watershed makes it a world-class leader in watershed stewardship.

The Cedar River Municipal Watershed is one of six unfiltered water sources for large cities in the country, bringing you some of the best water in the world. To protect the quality of the water from this unfiltered source, Seattle Public Utilities actively enforces the «closed status» of the 91,000-acre Cedar River Municipal Watershed.

Guided tours and in-depth programs led by experienced Watershed educators and guest presenters provide a rare and exciting glimpse into this hidden gem.

The Center is also a premier rental facility with space for weddings, retreats, and conferences available year-round.
