EJ’s Grill

While I sit here writing this review I can already feel my stomach begin to turn. Before I get started I think it’s important to note the quality of service and food that came from the previous restaurants at this location. This location has always had bad luck when it comes to business. So far from previous experiences with this location I’ve come across poor service, a dull atmosphere, and rude service. Unfortunately for EJ’s Grill, they seem to have kept this pattern.
Walking into EJ’s is already a little disconcerting; the walls lack any true decoration besides a small mural on the Western wall. Very few tables are scattered in this small restaurant and seem to really just be thrown into place with no real planning. The paint from the walls is splattered across the edges of the ceiling seemingly like a failed painter who didn’t give a damn painted the place in a hurry.
As we walked in we were directed to sit with no proper greeting or direction, we certainly had a few options seeing as only one table was occupied. As we sat down we were handed two sheets of paper which had been folded in half with some print on it. Apparently these were the very poorly designed menus which truly had no selection on them.
On staff were two waitresses who seemed both under experienced and didn’t seem like they cared too much about their service.
Our waitress’s name is still unbeknownst to us. After waiting an excruciating half hour or so for our hot wings and garlic/​parmesan wings we discovered to our disbelief that our order was wrong. To our waitress, apparently translates to chicken tenders with ranch dressing. Our waitress continued to argue with us that we ordered the chicken tenders and that the garlic/​parmesan wings were the hot wings and garlic/​parmesan. To her, I presume, «hot» in hot wings means temperature. After walking away angry she put in our hot wings and they arrived about ten minutes later.
The garlic/​parmesan wings weren’t entirely inedible, but at this point I was just happy to see food. The wings were highly over seasoned with parmesan and reeked of the smell. There wasn’t any effort put into the plating and the oil, which had been dripping from the soaked wings, hadn’t even been bothered to be whipped off of the plate.
The actual quality of the hot wings was surprisingly decent seeing as how bad the garlic/​parmesan wings had went. The smell of hot sauce still lingers in my nostrils from the overly sauced wings, which had also been surprisingly drenched in oil.
As we finished the wings, our meal arrived shortly after. Again, unfortunately, we didn’t know the secret code to ordering and our order was wrong once again. One of our orders consisted of a tomato and mozzarella cheese sandwich; when the order arrived we found that we had apparently «ordered» a mushroom and swiss sandwich on rye bread. Well technically, we never «ordered» said sandwich, but our waitress seemed convinced enough to argue with us about the order. I had ordered a plain hot dog from the menu and within one bite I was done. At this point in the meal I became convinced that their food was entirely inedible.
After the long amount of suffering we were forced to endure during this meal, I had to go to the restroom. As I got up, I walked down to the front of a small hall with two door’s labeled ‘MEN’ and ‘WOMEN’. Apparently they felt the need to distinguish between the two for the perfectly identical single restrooms. To make matters worse it seems that being ‘cheap’ in design warrants you the right to run a restaurant these days. The paper towel dispenser is attached directly next to the sink which is rather confusing. In order to wash one’s hands, one must stand slightly to the right of the sink in a diagonal pattern. Why anyone would want to stand to the right of a sink to wash there hands and not in front of a sink is beyond my level of thinking.
As I exited the restroom, I saw our hot wings had been boxed and waited on the table. As we waited awhile longer for our check, we conversed and joked about this truly despicable meal. When the check arrived we had noticed that we were charged $ 1.00 for my glass of water that I had with my meal. Not only were drinks limited to one refill, but the owner’s had the tenacity to charge for a glass of water? At this point I was outraged. After the horrible service, poor atmosphere, and overall quality of the restaurant I was tempted to grab the customer’s, who had just walked in, by the arms and yell at them to run as fast as they could. Unfortunately, it was too late. As we walked out the door I thanked God that I had gotten through that nightmare alive.
