Dollar General

this store is very convenient even though i am in jefferson park (chicago) and they offer great discounts (real discounts and not jacked up prices discounted!). save even more when shopping on a saturday with their $ 5 off $ 25 or more coupon! easy store to maneuver around. noticed another comment regarding lines and yes this time the line was longer, but the girl got everyone thru the line fast. it’s a small store so it’s not like a grocery store w/​several checkers and it also doesn’t have the high priced items like a grocery store does! for instance i personally go thru a lot of witchazel. at any grocery store even the house brand can be $ 4 a 16 oz bottle. name brand $ 6 $ 7 for the same size! dg is less than ½ the cost of the house brand and it’s the same stuff! not much you can do… with witchazel! management as well as all of the checkers i have encountered have been accommodating and pleasant!

There were 9, count them 9 people in line. The manager is on the side yip yapping with a non employee about who he worked with IDOT in 2000. The poor gal is checking all the people out. Then he walks ouside with the guy and continues talking.
Otherwise place was nice. Clean, nice selection and prices.

Gone to this store several times, convenient to get something that you might need… I had returned something that didn’t work which was fine. But when I came back the following day for a even exchange, they made you feel like you were a criminal! As soon as I walked in the door the man or manager ask me weren’t you just in here yesterday to return something??? So what if I was in the next day! he made me feel like I was doing something wrong! Am I not aloud to come in the next day and return something again? I had another incident with them over charging me once also! Btw this was the Dollar General on Irving pk road in Norridge Illinois…

Yay! A store that has everything I need for super cheap AND the owner takes time to talk with you! You just can’t beat that. I can’t tell you how many times this store has been a life-​saver for me when I get into financial pinches.
I’ve only had two bad experiences out of the countless times I’ve visited this location. Be aware that some employees are very young and may be lazy or even not have the social manners that they should — so don’t take it personally. All the other times I’ve come to this location have been positive for me… and then made even better once I’ve reached the check-​out counter and I seen how little my total is.
All together, you can tell this store may not be fully matured or that it might not be on the same level of quality when it comes to customer service that other larger grocery stores are, but I can tell that the owner is trying very hard to make his customers happy! Which, you just don’t see owners getting to know their clients any more these days ON TOP OF cheaper than your average groceries. Win — Win situation for me.

I was incredibly dissatisfied with my experience at this location. I had ran in (hoping to make it a very quick trip) to pick up a few cards. I was one of perhaps 3 total patrons in the store. it was very hot and sticky that day, and they had the doors open which did not help. I went to the register and there was one person in front of me who had maybe 3 items. There was 1 person working 1 register. After about 5 min of waiting in silence there were another 2 people who had stood to wait behind me. No indication as to why we were waiting there from the cashier, just standing in the quiet heat. Finally the woman behind me asks if the register is broken «again» in which the cashier answers «Yes, I don’t know whats going on». The woman behind me expressed her displeasure and stated that this is not the first time she had experienced this very situation at this location. After standing in line for another almost 10 min I had set my items down and walked out. There was no assistance from a manager, no attempt to open another register, not even any apology from the staff. I will definitely be avoiding this location in the future.
