Steve Copeland Shelter Insurance

I have been with Steve Copeland for over 15 years now and have never received anything but exceptional service from him and his entire office. I have lived in other states besides Oklahoma since I started using him and now live in California, but the one thing that has never changed is my use of Steve Copeland and Shelter Insurance. I have also had to file home and auto claims in the past and have never had a problem with the way they were handled — timely, efficient and fair. I would highly recommend Steve Copeland and Shelter Insurance without hesitation, as this kind of service is a rare find in the insurance business!

Steve Copeland of Copeland Insurance is a very nice person but unfortunately Shelter Insurance is no longer worth having (in my opinion). I have had my car insurance with Shelter Insurance for about 13 years. Two years ago I purchased my first home and of course I purchased total replacement insurance with Shelter Insurance. In 2014/​2015, rates went up an insane rate of 34% but I stuck with them thinking I had quality insurance. In May, 2015 my home suffered severe hail damage and I filed my first and last house claim with Shelter Insurance. With any business, it is when there is a problem and how they handle it, determines a company’s worth.
It is now September 22, 2015 and I still have no resolution with my claim. I paid for total replacement but my adjuster severely underfunded my claim. I had a totaled house roof, storage building roof, and garage door, two sides of house paint and one interior room of my house. This month I was forced to have my house roofed by non-​English speaking roofers (possibly illegal aliens) to prevent further damage inside my leaking home (roof). I had to get seven roofing bids to find one even close to what Shelter Insurance was willing to pay because that is what my «total replacement insurance» would almost fund.
On October 2, 2015, I ended up getting an adjusted payment on my house paint but still got
screwed over on other items but this was after I spent about 4 hours writing and posting negative reviews ( Unilocal, Angie’s List, Google Maps, Shelter Insurance Facebook page, etc.) to get someone’s attention.
On October 1, 2015 my insurance started with the «Good Hands People» and I hope I’m treated better than how I have been treated with Shelter Insurance. I have no idea if this was an isolated incident as my agent stated or that Shelter Insurance uses a particular computer program that under pays claims as numerous roofing contractors stated to me. Is it simply a claims issue or an agent issue, make your on decision.

Steve Copeland has been my insurance agent with Shelter Insurance for more than 20 years and I have always been very satisfied. I have had storm damage claims, auto claims and even a life insurance claim and Shelter Insurance has always paid promptly and with the expected amount. Steve and his staff are always very timely with returning phone calls or performing any needed follow up.
I have worked with reputable roofing companies for home repairs and when the storm damage expenses were higher than the initial claim the roofing company has submitted the additional expense and everything has been promptly paid by Shelter. I’ve had the same experience with auto repairs when higher than the initial estimate. The previous reviewer stated he hired ‘non-​English’ speaking workers to repair his home which leads me to think he did not work through a company that could have handled the whole claim process and provided any additional documentation needed for his claim. This past May we had extensive hail damage to our roof, paint, fence, back door and patio cover. Our initial $ 21k claim turned into more than $ 30k but everything was completely replaced/​repaired and paid with no hassle. The life insurance claim I filed was paid within a week of my turning in the death certificate.
I would highly recommend Steve Copeland and Shelter Insurance for all types of insurance needed by your family. I have received such great service I would not leave even for a lower cost for fear I would not receive the same level of service!
