Right at the tip top of Norfolk near the Bridge/Tunnel, you’ll find this parking lot with a view of the harbor and this historical marker. It reads: The first major amphibious action of World War II was planned near here in the Nansemond Hotel, HDQ. of Amphibious Force U.S. Atlantic fleet. An Army-Navy staff under Adm. H.K.
