The food is inexpensive; the environment is friendly; and the LGBTQ community present is friendly and caring. I am a fan of the blackened tuna but every item on the menu is delicious and the prices are exceptionally affordable. MJ’s is on of my favorite places to dine and to socialize!

We can for Sunday brunch after church. If you bring your church bulletin– you get $ 1 off! They brought out coloring books for my kiddos and the waiter was super friendly. The mimosas and bloody Mary’s are $ 4 on Sunday’s. I had a mimosa and it was good and a good size. The kids got the fluffy pancakes and bacon and raved about them. Also, homemade biscuits were perfect. We got our food quickly. Only one recommendation– get real maple syrup for these yummy pancakes!

We just moved here, and new friends invited us here for trivia night. They have a good selection of drinks, and the deals on tacos and taquitos were really good. I had chicken tacos that I inhaled, and my husband cleared a plate of nachos. On top of that, the trivia was a lot of fun. We plan to come back often!

Had a lunch here. Crowd is very diverse. Waitstaff was friendly. The food was okay… nothing special and to be honest I can’t even recall what we ordered. We found the place friendly and a decent place to have a few drinks and enjoy some music.

Great little tavern, the patrons are pleasant, the atmosphere friendly. The food is awesome, they also play trivia on Wednesdays, by the way it’s free and the winners receive gift certificates, they also have a pool area. So if you want a good place for a good time with. Rey reasonable prices give them a try!

I have been asked to come around during their karaōke nights but still haven’t — one day I will! However, I did come here for lunch one day since I’ve wondered about their food. Food: I tried their BLT sandwich, and a friend ordered an appetizer that was homemade type of fries with melted cheese. The food was good, as much people may think that there is no trick to a BLT, I disagree. The main ingredients need to be there, and not just slightly make an appearance on the sandwich. The lettuce has to have that nice crisp, and the tomato has not seem like they are running out of fresh tomatoes. That said, the sandwich made me happy. I was happy to see that there was a good«healthy» amount of bacon in the sandwich. The homemade fries were good as well. Ambience: There’s a good amount of space, and I can see how this can be a fun place to hang out for karaōke. There’s a deck outside, and it is a very nice place to sit and have drinks or a meal. The inside has a bar located to the back, which I feel is ideal. Service: I am sure the service is better at a different time, and we may have come in when they were changing from lunch to dinner shift. But, it still could’ve been better. I came afterwards, and it did take a while to get served even though we were the only occupying table. The water received had some Hi-C punch in the mix. I know that it can be an issue with the fountain, but there wasn’t any acknowledgement or mention that water is currently coming out that way. I didn’t feel like drinking soda with my beer, so I took it either ways. The rest of the service was good, even if it was a little delayed. I’ll try some karaōke sometime.

A great little neighborhood spot. Well stocked bar and much more than just bar food on the menu. Pretty yum all around. They have many events and specials so keep an eye out. Last Wednesday I stopped in for $ 2 tacos and taquitos during trivia night. In the times I’ve visited, service has always been friendly and the kitchen only ever had one hiccup that they corrected immediately. It’s closer to dive bar than fine dining, but I will say they’ve been making steady improvements to the restaurant and over the last few years you can see the changes to both the space and the food. Having had the opportunity to meet the owner, he seemed very sweet and had pride in his business. Love to see an engaged owner who cares about his place and the community at large.

This place is awesome! Every time I come here, there’s an excitement everywhere. I’ve had the wings, spring rolls, steak and fries and the food is amazing! The bartenders are super friendly and the place is clean. The parking is not bad and there’s an enclosed outside area for smokers. The owners are nice and everyone is friendly and polite. Definitely one of my top five Norfolk spots to frequent.

Really unsuspecting little bar next to Southern Bank on Granby St in Norfolk. Grabbed a bite one day and was pleasantly surprised! The roasted tomato soup was BETTER than the Bakers Crust version. It was so good, I’d wished I’d got a bowl instead of a cup. Not too creamy, not too salty… Perfect and fresh. The chicken salad wrap was delicious as well. Fresh chicken, tomato and lettuce wrapped in a tortilla… It was very satisfying. I’d love to go again sometime soon, but first I’m calling to see if the tomato soup is on the menu that day MJ’s is a cool little place with good eats. Since it’s a bar I wouldn’t mind having drinks there sometime — it’s a cute place!

This place has something cozy about it! Maybe it was the fact that I was immediately greeted by a wonderful personality from behind the bar or the regular customers chatting me up. Whatever it was, this is my favorite place I’ve found in Norfolk, by far. Prices were ridiculously affordable. Service was on point(Robby was great!) I didn’t try the food but I was tempted, $ 5 burger and fries special, definitely a steal. Great ambience. From what I understood, they have food specials almost every night of the week. They also have things going on often, trivia, Kareoke, etc. Overall, 5 stars! I’ll be back!

Went there for lunch today. The place was not very busy. The service was not very friendly nor informative about the menu or specials. We both got sandwiches with fries. The fries were good, but the sandwiches were plain. Nothing real special about this place. Not sure that I will return back.

My wife and I stopped here for dinner. I got the Chef’s salad and it was fantastic. The greens were fresh the turkey and ham were delicious and the sliced bacon was crispy and perfect. The honey mustard dressing was the best I ever had. The wife got a club sandwich. It was perfect. Somehow we had room for desert. We split the bread pudding and we couldn’t finish it. Portion size here leans towards the huge side. Food seems to be made with very fresh ingredients. Service is excellent. Our server was great and the owner even came by to talk with us.

I came here on a whim and wasn’t disappointed. The barstaff were once again friendly and there were some great deals on beer– $ 2 domestic drafts and $ 3 imports. Easy to strike up a convo with other patrons and decent crowd for those who(like me) prefer not to be out too late.

A nice little spot to grab a drink or have a sandwich. The sandwiches are good solid bar food. I had a BLT and it fell into the category of good comfort food. My friend had the Mahi Mahi wrap and it was delicious. The place overall has a nice divey feel that is simple and welcoming. The bartender was great and very engaging. Definitely a place to return to.

I visited this establishment on a Sunday afternoon after learning from a friend that they serve $ 1 Blue Moons from 2pm — 7pm. I hustled over there because it was already six o’clock — I wanted to take advantage for as long as possible. Once I walked in MJ’s had a very club-like feel to it, since the music was loud and danceable. It seemed a little run-down but overall the place was clean with plenty of seating, a long bar, a few televisions and a couple of pool tables. I met up with a big group who was already there and the $ 1 Blue Moons were served in 8 oz. plastic cups. But if you order two at a time it gets pretty interesting. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating, so I instantly felt at home. Rounds kept coming and during the Happy Hour they had specials on their appetizers. I didn’t have dinner yet so I ordered an entrée, Chicken Cordon Bleu with fries, and it was delicious. The chicken was actually composed of chicken strips, but they were fried just right without being dry, and even though the ham wasn’t inside(served on top of the chicken with the cheese) all the items complemented each other well. Overall I have no complaints. MJ’s looks kinda like a dive, but with plenty of good food, beer and great service I left happy. I’d recommend it to anyone in Norfolk who doesn’t want to hit up a chain. JV
