Hope House Foundation is the only organization in Virginia that supports adults with disabilities exclusively in their own homes.

History

Established in 1964.

Hope House was founded in 1964 by a group of parents who were seeking an alternative to institutionalization for their adult children with disabilities.

1984 — Hope House began hosting the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival.

1988 — Hope House began closing our group homes in favor of providing support in individuals’ own homes.

1995 — Every individual accepting support from Hope House was living in his or her own home.

2008 — Hope House received the American Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities’ award for full community inclusion.

2012 — Hope House received the ANCOR Foundation’s Community Builder Award for 2012 Service Provider of the Year.

Today — The ~130 individuals supported by Hope House live in their own homes in 13 different neighborhood locations in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach. We are the only organization in Virginia that provides support for adults with disabilities exclusively in their own homes.
