Department of Motor Vehicles

This is the nicest DMV I have been in for a while. First the lines are short and second it does not smell like homeless people. I will probably handle all of my DMV needs here.

The line for information was kinda long but once we had our number we were out in about 30 minutes. Staff was polite and helpful. Maybe we caught them on a good day but we were in and out in about an hour.

Could have been so much worse. My wait was only 20 min and, given how busy they were, I felt a show of appreciation was needed. Thank you DMV workers for not taking up all of my afternoon!

This location was actually not that bad. It’s your typical DMV. So prepare to be bored for about an hour. You walk in, line up to get a number, then wait some more. Fair warning, make sure you’ve used the restroom at your home before coming. They’re not necessarily the most sanitary.

Thank goodness a friend noticed the tabs on my plates had expired. Not just a little bit expired, 6 months expired! I’m not sure how that happened. We paid the property tax, we paid the insurance, we paid for a recent inspection, how could we forget to pay for the plate renewal? Perhaps it was an unconscious boycott protesting the fees to allow us to own a vehicle.
This DMV is located across the street from the Cinema 18 theater behind Military Circle Mall. On this particular Saturday morning we were fortunate to find a parking spot very near the front door, it was raining, but there is ample parking on the side and behind the building. Upon entering we were greeted by one of the two security guards being paid to keep us safe. The entry way guides you directly into the check-​in line. There were probably 80 people in the room waiting for their number to be called when we arrived and 10 people in the line ahead of us to get numbers. As I was thinking the line was moving slow and we would be there for hours an additional check-​in person was added which moved the line much quicker.
I was certain we would feel rulers on our knuckles for allowing the lapse on our license plate. Certainly we would have a lot of explaining to do but no, that didn’t happen. The check-​in lady was very professional. She even smiled and handed us our number, R226. As we glanced around the clean, well organized room, for two folding chairs to wait on we hear «R226»! No kidding, I looked down at the ticket in my hand and yes, indeed, it was us. I almost felt embarrassed as the eyes in the room watched us turn back to the counter. I wanted to apologize to all these people who had been waiting for their number to be called. I wanted to jump up and down and say YES!
As we passed those security guys on the way out one of them said we should buy a lottery ticket today. We were in and out in of there in less than 15 minutes with new plates and tabs in hand. (My original plates had been removed from the system due to the lapse.)
