Del Vecchios Pizza

This place was recommended to me by co-​workers that travel to Norfolk area. I ordered 2 slices of pepperoni pizza because I was flying out the next morning and there was no way I was going to be able to eat a whole pizza by myself. The pizza was good but nothing about it blew me away. Better than Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa Johns, etc. but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

Not the best pizza I’ve ever had but being from out of town the service was great and the prices can’t be beat. Decent food for a decent price.

Put in an order for delivery while we settle into our hotel room… grateful they are opened late! Great pizza! Right amount of everything… being from Philly, I am very picky about my pizza… lol

When I’m not in the dinner making zone a Del Vecchios 18″ Hawaiian/​/​Chicken Ranch is our go-​to meal. The times we’ve dined in the staff has been friendly and attentive.

Love the pizza here. I’m from new york, this pizza is comparable to the thin crust I get at home! And the slices with toppings is only about 2 dollars/​slice! Can’t beat that!

Good pizza! Good lunch specials for carry out. Been eating their food since the first day the origanial location opened on Granby St. yrs ago and I move over to the ODU location. Redskins game would be the same with two pizza … one sausage and one pepperoni. Get them to «paint: both with their garlic butter!

I didn’t have a good experience with lunch. I’ll just discuss the food quality. The portions were good sized. I had the Greek Salad and Spaghetti with meat sauce. The salad was ok. The spaghetti was watery – like the pasta was not drained before placing on the plate. The sauce lacked richness and flavor that I would have expected from meat sauce. I won’t be giving the establishment another try.

This place is not but perfect, but if you want great food on a budget, then this is the place for you. I’ve been here many times, in fact, I enjoyed their cuisine twice this week. All together I had the calzone the del vec sampler, and the garlic knots. As I have mentioned in previous posts, the 3 ingredients to a good restaurant experience are food qaulity, price, and service.
First, I will discuss the food qaulity. I’ve had pizza in chicago, I’ve had pizza in new York. The calzone I had at Del Vechios is one of the best I’ve ever had. The crust was perfectly crisp. The cheese was high qaility, well melted, and there was plenty of it. Also, the meat and vegie were of high quality and were quite tasty. Furthermore, I enjoyed the garlic knots as the we’re pretty much what you would expect, garlic, bread and a ton of butter. As for the del vecs sampler, it included classic fried foods like chicken tenders and jalapeño poppees. Simple, high quality, and delicious.
Secondly, the price. This restaurant is located near ODU and the food is priced accordingpy. They have daily specials and there regular menu is fairly price. Each item I mention was under 10 dollars. In my opinion, it was well worth it.
Last but not least, the service. Thus why Del vecs is missing one star. Don’t get me wrong, the staff is very friendly and they seem to work hard. However, I have had expenses where I’ve waited over 20 minutes for my pick up order .mind you, this is, after waiting 20 minutes to leave my house. My thought is, if you say 20 minutes on the phone, I should be able to come in 20 minutes and get my food immediately. Perhaps this is a management issue.
In summation, if your patient and looking for low priced delicious Italian cuisine, look no further. Thanks for reading.

They make fantastic pizzas. My favorite is the buffalo chicken. Also, their delivery service is on point. I once ordered two extra large pizzas on a Friday night and they arrived in 15 minutes!

Great place I got the cheese steak and mozzarella sticks. Their delivery is fast and ordering is so simple. I love this place.

Stopped at Del Vecchio’s for old times sake since I had some stuff to do around ODU. I took advantage of the lunch special (2 slices & a drink), plus a cup of Italian dressing. (I highly suggest getting some Italian dressing along with your pizza.)
The pizza was as good as I remembered, if not better. I need an excuse to come out to ODU more often so I can get my DV fix!

I’ve been a few times and had their Chicago style each time. It’s pretty darn good, and despite this place being a bit of drive for me it’s my current favorite pizza in town.

Ah what a disappointment. There were highs and lows with my experience here, ending with very mediocre pizza.
When I called in my order, they were super friendly and said it’d take about 20 minutes. My drive was about 15, and it was ready when I arrived. Definitely a plus for this place.
But the location is very… unappealing. It’s clean «enough,» but is more of a hole in the wall joint. The staff in person was pretty friendly as well.
When I got home with my pizza, though, it smelled strongly of garlic (which could be nice!) but ended up tasting of nothing more than tomatoes, bland bread, and a lingering garlic flavor. Overall was just really bland, and my sister and husband agreed.
I don’t like it when local places have less flavor than chains, that’s my main issue with this place.

I’m only 5.2 miles away from them and they won’t deliver? I know it’s Virginia, but that’s not kosher. Thanks for no pizza…

I have been ordering from Del Vecs for years and I am sad to say after this I will never order from them again.
I placed my delivery of $ 62 to feed my family this afternoon. They forgot my two 2 liters and a side of ranch. I politely called and informed them I had not received them and was told that I wasn’t charged for them because the girl never rang them up when I called in the order. I placed the order online with definitive proof I was chaeged. After arguing back and forth on the phone for 20 minutes they agreed to send out the sodas and ranch without another 10 dollar minimum delivery fwe. Oh boy I’m lucky aren’t I?
I then proceed to sit down to a late lunch with my family. The pizza was great. The salad was top notch, but then I get to the manicotti. I got a lasagna noodle that wasnt even stuffed drenched in sauce and cheese.
I asked the driver who delivered the sodas if the picture now on Unilocal entitled «world class manicotti» is what it was supposed to look like and was told yes. I have never in my life seen manicotti made like this.
They will never see another dime of mine.

Decided to check this place out after going to the zoo with my 8 year old. Their pizza is average. Edible. I had a slice of stuffed pizza with chicken, tomatoes and white sauce. It was good, but not great. My son, who could eat pizza everyday, just kind of messed his over. He wasn’t really feeling it.
The girl at the register was unfriendly and rushed me through my order. She was so rude that another girl took it upon herself to come from the back to answer my questions about pizza by the slice. In general though, I did not feel welcomed there. Not sure if this is a family run business, but the staff, who outnumbered the patrons by more than double, lacked the diversity of the surrounding area. The pizza definitely isn’t good enough to go somewhere where I am not welcomed.

Awesome pizza. The sauce is really flavorful! Make sure to order the garlic knots… best ones in Norfolk!

Like everyone said, $ 1 slices from 2pm –5pm, can’t beat that. The pizza is boring, nothing special, just regular tomato sauce and cheese. It really has no real taste other than tomato sauce but it’s $ 1 so 3 stars for that.
Garlic knots are soft and moist like a pretzel but are super salty so beware, 2.5 stars and its $ 3 for half a dozen
Overall it’s a perfect menu for broke college kids at a perfect price. I’d go back for a slice rather than pay $ 8 – 9 for a mediocre sandwich.

Initially looking at this place, you will think «hole in the wall», but this place has really yummy affordable food and is conviently located across from ODU’s main campus. Because of this, Del Vecchios is the beloved unofficial campus pizzeria of Old Dominion University. I remember many a broke and hungry days on campus where this affordable pizzeria saved my life. Admittedly this isn’t the best pizza you will ever eat (My dad from New York loves it though), but the huge $ 1 pepperoni and cheese slices they serve between 2PM-​5PM are famous and really come in handy; furthermore, if you come here between those hours expect this place to be packed (especially when classes are in session.) Despite being busy, their service is fairly quick.
Now if you have a little bit more money in your pockets and stop off here for lunch I suggest getting the chef salad with balsamic vinaigrette or the stuffed chicken bacon ranch pizza with buffalo sauce. They’re the two best things that they serve here.
Furthermore, since this is a college hangout, don’t come here expecting a fine dining expierence. With that being said they do have a full dining area in the back of the store where you can get served by a waiter and everything, but I’ve never tried it out, I hear it’s a good place for a casual get together.
All in all, if you’re in the ODU area and looking for a place that’s good, cheap, and fast with their service this is your place.

We ate at Del Vecchios after an ODU football game. Fortunately, they are open late and it was clear this is a favorite for fans who frequent games and students who come with friends and their families. This isn’t a five-​star Italian restaurant, more like a dive which is what makes it so special. The relaxed scene brings patrons of all ages, large portions and value. You can eat lots here for cheap. And, the service is great.
Pizza is the most popular item and it’s waves better than your typical fast food pizza chains. The Traditional, NY Stuffed and Chicago Style Stuffed are all good. Come with a group and order two! They also have specialty pizzas. When you add the choices there’s something for everyone whether you’re a meat lover, veggie or a mix of both. Hands down, a great place to grab a pizza.
While we didn’t order a calzone, the table next to us did and they looked awesome, perfectly cooked on the inside and crisp on the outside. We did, however, order a salad and agreed there’s nothing to complain about. They are filling, the dressings are good and lettuce was fresh and crisp.
I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying a meal here. It’s a perfect place to relax, hang out with friends, eat a normal or late dinner and end the night stuffed without spending too much money. We enjoyed every bite and I’m guessing you will too.
