For at least 3 years ABC Waterbed has operated out of Norfolk, VA. It is not closed as formerly reported. I have dealt with the couple who runs this company twice and am very pleased. They have been around the business some 3 decades now and have accumulated knowledge about all the changes of the various manufacturers. For ex., they remembered my SPS mattress from the 1980s. If you’ve had a waterbed in the past and loved it, they can tell you other models that come close to matching it. This is especially vital since the manufacturers are constantly changing their offerings. Their prices are good, too. The best thing about ABC is their website. It is the only one in the industry I know of that rates ALL the mattress by firmness/softness levels and describes pros and cons by how they will actually work for you and your needs. If you talk to them, you will get a lot more information than from other sites which focus primarily on describing waterbed mattress features in selling you a product you may or may not life. ABC listens and wants you to be happy. Like telling you how one manufacturer’s thicker vinyl, which you’d think would be a big plus, makes its mattress more taut/harder. Or how some manufacturers use less dense fiber filling(a fact not always detailed in the specs put out for customers), which can feel more plush. How one type may be harder to get in or out of, etc., etc. All this information is vital since waterbed mattresses are only marketed online in today’s world; you can’t try them out in brick-and-mortar stores. It’s too bad Candace G. had a bad experience replacing her mattress with what she and ABC thought was the same model only to find the manufacturer had made changes they didn’t tell anyone about. This is a common industry ploy for which she should have gone to the manufacturer, not ABC, for satisfaction.

I had an unpleasant experience with this company. I replaced a 14-year-old waterbed mattress for a new mattress of the same model. The new mattress was a different color than the old and didn’t have the same wave action. I called the company several times and spoke with Les. He assured me the mattress was exactly the same as the old except for the color. Each time I called he told me I was doing something wrong. Either I didn’t have the water warm enough or I didn’t have the water level correct. After several months of experimenting with water level nothing made the mattress comfortable. I spoke with Les again in an effort to get some type of customer satisfaction. He interrupted me repeatedly. Would not let me explain the situation. Was extremely rude and eventually hung up on me. I found out, from the manufacturer that although the waterbed mattress had the same model name as my old mattress, the material inside the mattress had been changed significantly. The old mattress had small white beads for baffling and the new mattress had a continuous layer of something that looked like pillow batting or insulation. Obviously the mattresses differed in more than the color of the vinyl. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and basically they declined to put a complaint on the company record. I think it’s because this company is a member of the Better Business Bureau. I think people should be warned that if you have a problem with a waterbed mattress that you buy from this company they won’t care and they won’t listen. In my opinion their customer service is terrible
