This place pre rolls their sushi. When you order it, they just place the raw sushi on top after they unwrap it from cling wrap. This makes the seaweed slightly mushy, and not crisp like you would expect. Don’t eat here, just don’t.

Amazing! Hopefully Jeff from Riverside is your chef! I asked him to make me anything he thought was good or fresh. Seriously, best meal ever!!! Chefs are artists, let them do their thing! I told Jeff I was open to any fish, anything, any style sushi or sashimi, it was awesome! Best meal ever!

Only go there for the proximity of «Japanese food». After tonight, I am done. The food has always been just okay. .. nothing to rave about. But tonight I asked that they turn down their really crappy music and I was met with, «that is what our customers like.» Okay. Please do not ever consider me a customer, because I think your loud rap music does not create a relaxing environment. You try and build a business with the«rap» crowd. They do not have the capitol of your older clientele. But do appeal to their desires. .. because that is obviously where you think you will make your profit. Label me as a former supporter. I’m done with your establishment. Good luck. We have spent hundreds in your restaurant. .. we will now go elsewhere — very ignorant on your part.

Stay Clear! Some of the rudest owners! Have given them so many chances and its disappointment after disappointment! Worse: last night our whole table of 4 got food poisoning and have been up all night.

Here spontaneously. Fun scene. Lots of interesting rolls to choose from, and meal plates. Went with gyoza and 3 rolls: red dragon, aloha, and rattlesnake. The rattlesnake was my favorite all around for flavors and texture, but largely I was hoping for spicier. Good service and beer selection.

Contrary to some of the other reviews I’ve read this place has never let me down. This is the only decent teriyaki shop within several miles but you wouldn’t know it based on the quality and price. I’ve always gone in for lunch and the service is fast and efficient and the portions are usually a good size. I usually try and get in and get out as fast as I can and the staff seems to sense this and gets my food out promptly. The California rolls are nice and fresh and the lunch combo is sure to fill you up. I will continue to frequent this place on a regular basis.

OK, here is an update to my ‘review of the reviews’ of California Sushi and Teriyaki. Took a chance and dined there last night. Our overall experience was good, as was the food. The waitress was very nice, yet unobtrusive. She gave us plenty of time to read over the menus and the took our order. The food arrived in a timely manner. The miso soup was fairly unremarkable, adequate. The tempura was well-done. It appears that they may have adopted a technique that I learned when I was learning to cook Japanese food many decades ago. When cooking large pieces of veggies for either stir-fry or tempura, parboil the veggies for a minute to soften them up a little. This makes them nice and tender when cooked the second time. The tempura batter was light and crispy without being greasy… not perfect, but very good. The teriyaki salmon my wife got was also very good, and the different rolls we ordered, such as the tempura roll and California roll were well-executed. All in all, this is definitely a place we’ll be frequenting, as they are only about 2 ½ miles from us.

Had dinner withy family, party of 6. All of us received our meals except for my senior mother. Mistakes happen, I get that, but when we brought it to the waitresses attention she tried to tell us that we never placed that order. After insisting that we did, She leaves and comes back to tell us that the cook forgot. The order eventually came and after receiving the bill i asked for a discount since it was so late. The waitress told me that it was only«kind of» late. I firmly insisted that she take the bill and to adjust it beyond full price. Now, if you disagree with me up to this point for asking for a discount, that’s fine, but what followed was unacceptable. The manager/possibly owner returned and placed the bill in front of me without saying a word, took my plate and walked off. I looked at the bill, full price. I waved down the waitress and told her it was ridiculous and that were never coming back, she replied, «that’s fine», I waved down the manager/possibly owner, I told her the same. She snatched the bill from me without saying a word and returned it with 50% off of the one order, saving me $ 7.50. In all honesty, mistakes happen, that’s fine. But the waitress did not have to respond to me, the customer, that way. Neither did her supervisor. Horrible customer service. I grew up in Nipomo, i love our town, please if you’re visiting do not stop at this restaurant. I was told by a friend to not go here because she always gets sick from their sushi but I gave it a chance anyway. Big mistake. There are plenty of other good sushi restaurants in the area. This is one I will never go to again and I will be sure to spread the word to my fellow Nipomo natives so that this restaurant will lose more than that measly $ 7.50.

Now, this is the second chance I gave this place as far as the actual fish goes. Both times I ordered sushi, it was rather fishy and I don’t think I will be getting sushi fr this place again. My boyfriends food has been good though:)

Looking at the reviews, it’s either«I love it» or «I hate it», which is really weird and conflicting. To anyone who bothers reading this, California Sushi and Teriyaki is indeed a wonderfully delicious place. It may have it’s ups and downs, who doesn’t, but when push comes to shove, they will present you with some of the best Japanese food you can get in the Central Coast. And if you’re going to eat here, in my opinion, go for what it’s worth, order the sushi and rolls, it will melt in your mouths and you will be stuffed as you walk out. And if you’re scared or eating raw fish for whatever reason? Speaking with the staff or manager, these people will more and kindly recommend what’s in season and what’s popular, and reassure you, eating raw fish is not bad. It’s delicious. … Great, now I’m hungry again.

I’ve been here a couple of times and had a great experience with them every time. The staffs are nice and friendly and the quality of the fish is not bad at all, compared to the price. The last time I went, they had a special for oyster, each of them costing 1.50. I had a dozen of them they were VERY fresh, oh yum! Also tried the new items on their menu, black spider roll(fresh water eel on top of spider roll– a must try!) and protein roll(tuna, salmon, whitefish, in a cucumber). Definitely try this place if you’re ever around here!

Food is OK but what wasn’t is the MANAGER gave me a lunch special menus then charged me full price because I wasn’t done and paid before the time limit was out! She told me i shoukd of got it to go. This has never happened to me before. So unprofessional I would of order something better for what I ended up having to pay. Now I stick to Yamato in grover beach.

Miso soup was blah! Oh n is there a secret here in Cali on how to eat soup with chopsticks??? No spoon, really? Ok let’s move on. I come from Kansas to Cali and the fish quality goes down? Hint if the tuna looks kinda pink instead of red, it was frozen and the flavor profile goes to hell. What are they trying to do with giving you a quarter portion of chicken teriyaki, Jesus! The rice was pretty good. Lol! DONOTWASTEYOURMONEYORTIMEONTHISPLACE!!!
