History

Established in 1972.

Over 40 years ago, an idea was born — an idea that local Lutheran churches should establish a home for the elderly. In 1972, that idea became a reality when Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home and Retirement Center was incorporated.

Since 1972, Shepherd of the Valley has grow from a single community in Niles with 100 employees to four residential campuses located in Boardman, Howland, Niles, and Poland, plus a home health agency, At Home With Shepherd, and a corporate location. In 2013, Shepherd employed nearly 600 people providing care and assistance to 1159 seniors.

From At Home With Shepherd Home Health Care to transitional programs from hospital to home, short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing care, two levels of assisted living, independent senior apartments, and independent homes. Shepherd of the Valley offers the right level of assistance to support the independence you or your loved one desire.
