King Spa Sauna

This was my wife’s birthday present to me… WOW!!! This place is really nice. It was my first time ever going to a spa but I enjoyed it immensely. After getting over the initial shock of walking around naked and bathing with other men, I calmed down a bit.
I enjoyed the saunas and hot pools the most.
I joined my wife in the giant room in the middle of the spa and we enjoyed the rest of the day together. Here you can enjoy lunch along with other saunas. We took advantage of the huge leather chairs in the upstairs part of the spa. We took a two hour nap along with ten other people. There was a giant flat screen on the wall, that may as well been decoration because it watched us… let me clear something up when you first get there men go on one side of the spa and women the other.
At no time is there coed nakedness… it’s not that kind of spa… some of you might be disappointed now… hehehehe!!!

I love King Spa. I’ve been a few times by myself, and yesterday, brought my husband here for his birthday. He enjoyed it also.
Here’s how it works: Upon checking in, you’re given a bracelet with your locker number and key attached, and the men go one way, women the other. You take your shoes off in the corridor that leads to the locker rooms, and you’re given a uniform to wear in the common areas. (Shorts and a tee). You’re asked to shower before you enter the whirlpool room, and yes, you do have to be totally naked. (Women are in one area, men in the other.) Women with long hair are also asked to tie their hair up, which adds to the very sanitary feel of the place.
You can schedule a variety of massages at additional cost, and partake of the various activities in any order, and for as long as you like. Massages in the common area may be done with your companions of the opposite sex, and the ones done in the side rooms of the locker rooms must be done totally nude, by same sex attendants who wear very little… for the women it’s a bra and panties only.
There are several different sauna rooms off the common area, and signs explaining the health benefits for each. They recommend no more than 20 minutes in each, and you should drink water to stay hydrated. Also, while many people are barefoot, you can wear socks. You can’t bring slippers or even flip flops from the outside, again for sanitary reasons, but they do have cute socks and cloth slippers for sale, at least for women. I bought a cute pair for only $ 7.99 and posted a picture.)
There’s also an ice room to cool you down if you can stand it, and the base rock room for an additional $ 5, which I love and is well worth it. There’s a walk up cafeteria with a variety of food options; mostly Korean fare, vegetarian options, bubble teas/​smoothies, and a cooler with a variety of drinks in addition to complimentary water and sterilized cups.
There’s a theater room with oversized leather chairs, a lounge with a tv, and a «meditation room» on the 2^nd level with very comfy leather lounge tables where you can relax or even sleep. Hubby and I liked this the best.
The pros of this place, in my opinion, are:
Parking is free and easy in the large lot.
If you’ve never been here before, you can follow the signs, and there are attendants everywhere to answer questions.
Toiletries and pretty much everything you need are provided. They also sell additional items that you might want/​need, at reasonable prices.
They are clean! And constantly cleaning.
They’re open every day of the year, including holidays. So even on a whim, you can go!
It’s 24 hours, so you can go at anytime, and stay as long as you want. (There is an additional charge if you stay longer than 24 hours.)
Wonderful diversity. People of all shapes, sizes and ages, including children over two are welcome, so no need for a babysitter. The whole family can go!
If you decide you’re comfortable getting naked, no one seems to stare or judge.
You don’t have to spend any more than the admission price, but if you do want to get a massage or any other treatment or buy anything, including food, you simply scan your bracelet and pay your balance when you leave. This is great so you don’t have to carry money (or anything else) with you as you explore.
They almost always have Groupons or deals on Living Social to minimize the $ 30 – 35 admission price.
The cons for me are:
Very small towels! They’re not much bigger than washcloths, and definitely won’t cover you if you’re modest.
It can be pricey if you partake in the extras.
Weekends and holidays get ridiculously packed. Weekdays and early mornings are definitely better times to go.
There are no seats or even benches in any of the saunas. If you’re not comfortable on the floor (on the mats they provide) then you won’t like these very much.
Hubby and I both would have preferred unisex Jacuzzis. They are very relaxing and would be more enjoyable together. (Due to the nudity, this is not possible.)
That’s it, in a nutshell. I’d recommend everyone try it, at least once. Personally I can’t wait to go back!

King Spa is quite the experience! You don’t need to bring anything with you other than your credit card and an open mind.
For the first part of the visit (segregated by sex), you are completely naked. You take a quick shower then bathe in small indoor pools of various temperatures (mostly hot but one cold). There’s also a steam room. Then you can add a massage and/​or body scrub treatment. These are performed along the side wall by Korean women in their 40s and 50s wearing only a black bra and panties. You lay completely naked on a massage table covered in waterproof pink plastic or vinyl (I’m guessing the tables in the men’s room are blue.) There’s a whole row of guests receiving treatments at the same time, with the tables only about 2 feet apart. I chose the 90-​minute Gold Aroma package, which involved a thorough body scrub, oil massage, collagen face mask, and a very tingly & minty hair mask. I was worried the body scrub would be too rough, but it was fine. At various points my therapist poured a tub of water on me to rinse everything off. The treatment ended with her dousing me in soy milk. Not joking. It was pretty awesome.
After my treatment I donned the provided pink shorts and t-​shirt «uniform» and tried some of the dry sauna rooms, which are mixed gender. Some of the rooms were decked out in infrared lights and amethyst crystals or charcoal for additional healing properties. As the afternoon went on the saunas started to get crowded and stanky, so I didn’t stick around in those for long. I never ventured into the fire sudatorium — it just seemed way too hot, but I liked the Base Rock Room. It’s important to note that there are no benches in the saunas — you have to sit or lay on the floor.
At one point I took a break for lunch (mushroom tofu soup with rice) in the restaurant and rested upstairs in the «meditation room.» I actually saw people up there working on laptops, so I guess some people stay all day. But 4.5 hours was enough for me.
I look forward to returning and to trying another entrée in the restaurant as well as a foot acupressure session. I recommend visiting on weekday if you can — the earlier in the day the better. If you’re a female, don’t come during your period. You can bring your own cleansers and shampoo & conditioner if you want, but it’s not really necessary.

Love this place! Not my first time at all. I’ve been coming here for years and I finally remembered to write about it. Korean spas rock! Free movie and all access pass to numerous saunas. Not to mention food court too! Massages, scrubs, half bath, facials are extra fees when you enter. If you don’t mind being all natural ale in front of your own sex. It’s all good even kids from 4 and up come enjoy too and relax. This place is very clean NO SHOES at all besides the workers clogs. Bring an empty water bottle to refill because you will get very thirsty.

Kings spa interesting place to go. They have hot tubs cooling pool steam room in women’s locker room. A community bidet where they have herbs to cleans. I’ll pass on this one. They offer facials massages and half saunas that supposed to even out your body temp those are optional services .
They have theses dry mineral saunas that are supposed to heal your bodie including a room made of 18 karat plated gold.
They also have a movie theatre of older films in these super luxurious recliners .they have chess games and a restaurant with delicious looking Asian foods. And Bobo refreshments .
There is an area for chess areas the meditate and relax. When we were there it was noisy in certain areas they were doing construction .
All in all its a very CLEAN interesting place to be.
I do wish they would give a towel larger then a oversized wash cloth for the hot tubs.
They also offer pjs for the dry saunas so you will see the guests walking around in over sized blobs of pink for the ladies and grey for the men.
P. s. They are on groupon. I also love they are next to Hmart a great store for Asian groceries and liquor.

The korian place (king spa) I love relaxing place after a week of jobs.
I don’t like to make you naked to get a shower.

Totally worth the $ 21 groupon deal, not sure about the full price. This place is unlike any American spa, and a novel experience.
If you’re not comfortable with nudity around the same sex, don’t bother. No one cares that your naked though so chill out.
I think my favorite part about the entire experience was the diversity: men and women, all ages from grandmas to kids, all body types, all races and ethnicities. I overheard so many languages. It was really wonderful. Add the uniforms and it felt very cult/​pajama party/​commune.
You receive a waterproof bracelet that contains a tag that you can use to make purchases, and a key to your own locker. Strip down, grab a towel, and shower. Near the showers are hot tubs, a chilly pool, and a hot sauna. Yes, you’re naked there.
Once you dry off you can head to the common area (coed, not naked) where people are chatting, playing chess, reading and sleeping. There’s a theater off the main room with recliners, where I took a quick nap while watching Fighting (Channing) and Remember the Titans (Denzel). I grabbed dinner from the cafeteria– food was reasonably priced and yummy and authentic but the snacks and drinks were definitely overpriced. Tbh, just sneak in a water bottle (STAY HYDRATED!) and eat before you go. You can always grab food if you get hungry. I got a mini juice drink, bag of chips, and shrimp fried rice with five sides, including miso soup, for $ 15. Not bad.
The dry saunas have different themes (gold, amethyst, salt, ect), are different sizes, and have different temperatures. Go slow. The bigger rooms tended to be louder so I mostly enjoyed the smaller rooms and read a book.
Upstairs is an additional rest area and rooms with infrared (?) lights. Good place to take a quiet break, because the common area is loud.
I was there for 8 hours by myself, I wandered room to room, read a book that I bought, napped, watched movies, ate by myself. It’s totally chill.
There were wayyyy too many people on a Sunday though. Try for a weekday if you can. The staff is relatively rude.
Tl;dr Stay hydrated, be naked, get a groupon, bring a book or an iPad with a movie, bring clean socks to walk around in (most ppl are barefoot). Try to avoid weekends.

I really enjoyed my time at King Spa & Sauna. Very clean, and they have 9 different sauna rooms. Nice place to go and relax with your friends.
I can not wait to go again.

I used to go to jimjjibangs in Korea, and this place is the closest I’ll get to returning to them. I’ve been here numerous times, with friends, family, and even solo. It’s so relaxing to come and hang out for the day. I usually alternate between different saunas and the other spaces here, including the main room and the resting room upstairs with all the lazy boys. I have been to the whirlpools a couple of times, and it’s usually pretty chill. Once you get over the initial reservation of being completely nude at the pools, you’ll be fine. Everyone is there to relax and destress and no one really cares how you look naked.
If you’re new to Korean spa houses, you should know a couple of things:
1) You need to wear their uniforms to utilize the saunas and common areas. It’s not a big deal, just go with the flow.
2) Everyone gets an electronic bracelet for a locker in the men/women’s locker rooms. It also allows you to purchase food or products or spa services, and you pay when you check out. Makes things easier and you don’t have to carry around your wallet. It also tracks your time there, so if you stay overnight, you’ll be charged a small fee.
3) Take off your shoes when you get to the hallway leading into the locker rooms. It’s their rule and helps keep things clean.
4) Before going into the whirlpools, you need to shower and tie up your long hair (for females). Then you can hop in and chillax!
5) There is a cafeteria serving a variety or traditional Korean fare, along with drinks and snacks. I would recommend trying their soups… they’re wholesome and good for you! If you want water, there’s drinking fountains where you can fill up your water bottle orrrr a mini cooler with sterilized cups for water.
6) There’s wifi and outlets to charge your devices… you can stay all day and do work or watch Netflix on your iPad or whatever… bring something to do if you plan to stay all day. There is a movie theater room if you want to watch something they put on.
7) Try all of the sauna rooms at least once… then you can return to your favorite. There is one super super hot one so if you can’t handle the heat, that’s okay. There’s no talking so respect your fellow spa goers! Use a towel to help cushion your neck from the heat when laying down. Wear socks, your feet will thank you.
I usually wait for groupon to sell passes and then purchase them. Give it a go, it’s definitely a new experience!

It’s not a bad place, per se. As a lot of other people have mentioned, there are plenty of options for a relaxing day. Steam rooms, hot and cool pools, various dry sauna rooms, and plenty of options for massage/​scub services. There is the movie room, café, and plenty of seating for customers who want to rest/​relax in the common area. But there are a few things that make this place, not quite, in my book, worth the hype that I have seen in other reviews.
#1: Bare feet/​socks only. So yeah — I get the whole rule about not allowing in shoes. And since the establishment doesn’t know where your personal flip-​flops have been — they aren’t allowed either. But why don’t they sell a cheap pair of flip-​flops for you to wear when you are walking around? I would never walk around in the gym locker room without flip-​flops, so having to move around in the wet spa area in bare feet really bugged me.
#2. Price points for the spa services. The prices for the spa services seemed pretty high — so I opted out on them. Honestly — the feeds seemed to line up with those of some of the spas in downtown Chicago that I have visited in the past (i.e. they types of spas that also include all day access to steam, saunas, pools, quiet/​restful locker room areas. This is all on top of a $ 35 entrance fee (price when I visited on 1÷15÷16)
#3. Café — the food was over-​priced, and just so-​so.
#4. Cramped locker area. Very tight quarters in the locker room. It is very difficult to maneuver when you are getting in/​out of your locker. They are very close, and no bench in between the rows, so you have to constantly move around to let other customers get past while you are changing. I’m not saying that a lounge space is needed, but it was just too tight in there.
Parking is easy and free at King Spa — that’s a bonus. But it doesn’t really offset the minus sides for me.
All in all — it can be a different experience, so check it out (with a Groupon) if that is what you are looking for. But if you belong to a good/​clean gym that has single-​sex steam, and dry sauna rooms — you can save your time and $ by skipping King Spa.

I got a Groupon for this place thinking nothing of it. I decided to finally go during a cold winter day to relieve some stress.
Now, at first, I was super anxious because i’d read about Korean spas, and wasn’t really sure what to do/​bring/​expect. My only advice would be READ THE SIGNS! There is a specific process this place follows to ensure a sanitary facility, which I quickly learned when the locker room attendant had to direct me left and right, etc. He was stern, but understandably so.
The first thing I found fun was the uniforms. I am short, so I was awkwardly waddling around in an oversized uniform. However, after seeing everyone in the coed area, I realized everyone looks funny. It almost felt like a giant slumber party.
The dry saunas are really cool. It was nice to hop around and lay in different rooms with different minerals. Truly relaxing. Everyone was also very nice and respectful. The fire room was really hot, but was a nice way to really sweat everything out. I also was very fond of the Salt Room, Charcoal Room and the Gold Pyramid.
In between saunas, it was nice to be able to enjoy the other aspects of this place. The relaxing areas were nice. You can lay back on a giant recliner and watch TV, read a book, listen to music, really whatever you want, even go to sleep. If you get hungry, their is a restaurant with food that looked and smelled really good. I didn’t actually eat because I had just eaten dinner before arriving, but the extensive menu had a lot of vegetarian/​vegan options, which was great for me, as I am a vegan. They also have a selection of juices/​smoothies and teas to enjoy.
When I finally decided to go into the wet area, I was super nervous because I have never really been nude in public. However, the real reason I went to the spa was to go into the steam room to open up my sinuses, so I knew I had to bare it all. Anyway, long story short, being nude in public is awesome. I thought I was going to be scared, but you quickly realize nobody cares.
I highly recommend this place, and will be going back very soon.

It may be because I have been to many like it in South Korea, but saunas are such a place of freedom and relaxation; a place where you can be naked and clean the dirt and filth off of you and come out feeling like you were just born.
NOTE: If you are uncomfortable being naked around strangers, I still recommend trying this place. I believe everyone is uncomfortable at first, and you then realize that no one is judging or looking. However, if you have a crippling fear or anxiety of exposing yourself, then this place is NOT for you.
You begin by disrobing everything and putting your clothes into a locked locker. The sauna (bath house) is pretty strict, so don’t be surprised if you are approached by an employee.
First: NO CLOTHES! No swimsuit, so undies, no bra, NOTHING!
Second: Tie your hair.
Third: Be quiet and courteous.
For some, the spa is a place for relaxation and silent meditation. If you decide to come with your friends, I encourage you to bathe separately and reconvene in the co-​ed area where everyone is more social.
The Co-​ed area is large, amazing, accommodating, and so warm (The floors are heated!). You can find a plethora of silent meditation rooms, ranging from freezing cold to lava hot! There is one room where stone tablets are heated to 120 degrees. HOT! It may sound crazy, but you leave each room feeling so rejuvenated. The Co-​ed area also features a movie theater with comfy couches, sleeping quarters, and an amazing kitchen featuring delicious korean and japanese food. I recommend the Shikeh (sp?), a sweet and delicious rice drink that feels sooooo good after a hot bath. Best part: NONE of this requires you to carry your wallet. All you need is the bracelet (with your locker key attached) to purchase things. You check out when you leave.
I love it here, and I definitely plan on coming back. It can be pricey at times, but I really recommend trying it at least once. The experience will probably be amazing.

I came here 3÷27÷15, it was an AMAZING experience. I’ve never gone for a massage and this place was the perfect treat!!!
They have an entry fee (I forgot the price), but they sell them discounted on Groupon so we purchased tickets there for like $ 20 for 2 people. When you enter they guide you to a women’s locker room & men’s locker room. You’re given pink top and pants for women and you can visit the various steam/​rock/​massage rooms. They have theaters which show movies with recliners. They have an amazing restaurant w/​delicious food options. The line was extremely long for food, but definitely worth the wait.
I got a 90 min massage which was additional but boy oh boy it was worth it!!! The saunas were very warm and relaxing. This place was amazingly calming & rejuvenating.
It has a family feel to it, there were couples and also kids present. There is nudity it some areas so you definitely need to be comfort w/​that. I had plans to return ASAP, but the way their prices are set up I’ll be waiting until tax season so my clients can pay my way. LOLBVS The bill was like $ 600 for 2 people. WOWZERS!!! Glad I got treated!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my 5 and half hours here. I napped, I soaked, I sweat, I got scrubbed, I ate, then napped again. It was just what I needed. A great escape on a cold Chicago winter day.
Ladies here’s a tip: bring a shower cap and some conditioner. Best deep conditioner of my life, going from sauna to sauna with towel over my head.
I also really liked the scrub, they reach places you can’t even imagine. So soft after.

I’m addicted to that place.

Why can’t we give half-​stars? This would be a 3.5-star review…
When this place first opened up I had hoped that either the entrance fee, «spa» service fees, or the restaurant prices would drop because Koreans and Korean Americans who have checked out the LA and NYC Korean sauna scene tell me King Spa prices here are a bit on the high side.
And then came Groupon and people from all over started checking this place out for the cultural experience. Um, that’s cool. I’m here because I want to get my sweat on.
The entrance fee is now $ 35 for 23.9 hours. If you stay beyond midnight there is an extra fee. Why would you stay? Well, once you visit you might understand. There are couches and comfy seats all over. There is a mini movie theater with recliners. There are gender-​specific meditation and «sleeping» rooms as well as a communal space if you don’t care who is around when you are snoring in a pastel-​colored shirt and shorts.
Be warned. If you want to enjoy the steam rooms, the hot tubs, and the ice water tub you will be naked. Sure, it’s nakedness by gender, but this is not naked at the gym locker room with big towels. This is the nakedness of that man or woman who walk around the locker room using the little hand towel to dry her/​his hair. No swimming suits. You can’t bring your own beach towel. You can’t even wear shower sandals or fig leaves.
Fortunately the women’s wet spa area is usually monitored by employees who gently but firmly direct all patrons to shower before going into the tubs or steam room because yuck to people who think they can just jump in with all their personal nasty. You can sit on a towel in the steam room but it’s a little towel — smaller than a hand towel.
The dry saunas all have a different «theme» with different minerals providing different healing properties. My favorites are the base rock room ($ 5 extra unless your Groupon includes it) and the gold pyramid.
My usual routine? Dry saunas. Eat. Dry saunas. Wet spa and steam room and then pay $ 120 (just wait) for 90-​minutes of body scrubbing, body massaging, hair washing, collagen facial mask heaven. The body scrubbing isn’t the white person swanky spa exfoliation. This is serious scrubbing ALL OVER. You will be disgusted by what comes off of your body if you didn’t grow up with this kind of exfoliation. And then you will be amazed at how awesome you feel because that crap is off of your body. Trust me. It’s a little unnerving to have a middle-​aged Korean woman in a black bra and panty asking you to lie down on your side and move your leg (if you get scrubbed you’ll know what I’m talking about), but it’s all on the up-​and-​up. Dead skin cells, no matter where they are, are not your friend.
If you’re not up for the full experience, you can still book a massage or facial without the scrubbing but it really is worth it. Ignore that crazy skit that comedian did with Steven Yuen.
The food is good, and they continue to add to the menu including vegetarian options.
Check it out. Your body will thank you.

It’s not the best korean sauna but it’s pretty damn good for the midwest. Went to Chicago on vacation and I had to try them out. Using the groupon was no hassle at the front desk. Make sure you take off your shoes midway through the hallway (or get scolded like I did). Be comfortable with your body cause everyone’s naked after you go in. It’s a shame there’s no unisex sauna (I’ve been to some where you can join in if you have a bathing suit). There was a fair selection of saunas considering the space — though a lot of them felt the same temperature. The exception being the molten hot one with danger signs (crossbones and an older korean gentleman telling you tales of those who survived [jk]). Food is typical k-​cafeteria prices and selection. The smoothie was surprisingly good– straight up mango+water: mango smoothie.
I love that there’s a movie theater. Never experienced a spa with one inside. You can chill in a cool room with your friends and enjoy The Hangover, Lucy, etc. Upstairs is for sleep and TV. Don’t be a dick and talk loudly upstairs or hankypanky. That’s not cool.
Would come back again next time and plan my route accordingly to include more hot bath time~

I almost gave this place 5 stars for perfection, but had some reserves because it is a bit pricey. That is the only negative though, and I absolutely LOVE King Spa.
My friends introduced me to King Spa. Yes, it is a spa in that it has whirlpools and offer massages, but it is more of a Korean bath house. In Asia, bath time is very much a social activity, where girls, moms, friends, guys, and everyone gets together to chat and clean up. You definitely feel that here, everyone is very friendly. And it is one place where you don’t have to feel weird being naked!
The place is split between the sexes for the wet area where there are pools of different temperatures and a charcoal sauna. Pretty much all the women in this area are yes, naked, so you if you’re a gymnophobe, you’ll get over it pretty quick here. The rules are this: you MUST shower before going into the pools, it’s best if you keep your hair up after washing (no one wants your long hairs floating in the pools!), no brushing your teeth in the sink, only the shower, and no loud chatting (admittedly, I’m bad at this).
If you talk too loud the Asian staff ladies will come by with a sign that says QUIET PLEASE and wave it at you. It’s funny, right?! But I can understand them being strict about disturbing the peace.
They give you a uniform of a fresh T-​Shirt and shorts for the common area, where there’s a bunch of saunas with «magical» healing powers with crystals, or salts, charcoal, etc. There’s also a ice room if you get too hot, right next to the King Sauna. I’ve always question the energy cost of having the ice room next to the 150 – 160 degrees King Sauna…
But wait, there’s more!!! A decent, if slightly pricey, little Asian food café, an awesome movie room with giant leather chairs, a yoga room, a large room upstairs for napping, and a nice open general are for watching football or playing on the laptop.
Take advantage of this place, try it out! If it was closer to my house I’d come here way more often. If I had to list top places in Chicago, this is definitely one of them.

Really nice place!!! You can stay all day here! They have foot massage, face mask, many different Sauna rooms including ice room. They also have kitchen which you could buy korean foods and shaved ice. They also have many rest places which you could take a rest there. They also have upstair areas which I haven’t got chance to check. They also have three different hot tub area and show places, yah!

When I finish this review, I’m checking my calendar for when I can go back! Let me tell you why this place is «the shizz»:
THE SAUNAS: A good variety of dry sauna rooms that run the gamut of temperatures, from the ice room to the sudatorium (aka «Hell’s Waiting Room»). Silence is apparently optional, since you may occasionally encounter some chatty Cathys in the rooms (despite the signs clearly saying «quiet please»). But I gave up expecting quietness during sauna time and just eavesdrop now. At least in the wet area, the chitchat gets mostly drowned out by the flow of water. And speaking of the wet area, …
THE WET AREA: This takes relaxation to a whole new level. The shower heads are strong, the hot tubs have just the right amount of heat, and I had the best shave in my life, thanks to the humidity of the steam room. And the cold pool with the overhead shower is perfect for when you want to «chill out» (groan). Plus, the body scrub is a must — it’s vigorous and thorough, and definitely unique. During the scrub, I purposely avoid looking at all the dead skin that leaves my body (don’t want to add unnecessary horror to an otherwise pleasant experience). And, personally, I consider the total naked custom very liberating — a chance to shed inhibitions and just be totally clean and relaxed.
THE FOOD: I had the short ribs and … GOT DAMN, that was some good meat! The plate was so hot it was sizzling! I had to pace myself because I tend to eat fast and I didn’t want it to end.
The only negative is when I spent the night — it wasn’t a good sleep. Perhaps I should have adjusted the barcalounger a little better. I’ll have to seriously consider if I stay overnight again.
Mostly all of the staff are nice and helpful, the facilities are very clean, and the common area is perfect for get-​togethers or reading a book.
