The Griffon Gastropub

I always have a thing for new American food, but this place has taken it to a new level. Creativity rocks! I had the stuffed jalapeños, Cesar salad, sweet chicken soup and bacon jam bruschetta here and let me tell you that they are awesome!
1. bacon jam bruschetta. I love the fact that it is sweet and savory at the same time, the grape tomato on top neutralized the grease feeling from the bacon. Excellent combo.
2. stuffed jalapeños with goat cheese and bacon bits, finished off with roasted corn. Heavenly!
3. Sweet chicken soup: I love the fact that they took the idea of French onion soup and used it on chicken soup. After you finish the cheesy chicken chunks on top, you can find pasta and a hearty chicken broth on the bottom.
4. Cesar salad: check out the picture. Have you ever seen Cesar salad done this way? Quarter romaine heart grilled on open fire! The char flavor gives that smoky taste to the salad, excellent touch!

wonderful place with delicious food. I had a customized burger that was delicious the highlight however was my sisters gouda shells. sublime!!! the sweet potato fries are fabulous. the service is wonderful. the place was packed but our waiter was phenomenal made sure we had everything to our liking.

My friends and I traveled all the way from Boston to visit Niagara Falls, we were pleasantly surprised to come across such a great restaurant! Our experience at The Griffon Gastropub was wonderful. Fantastic food and even better service! Not to mention the drinks were great as well! Full list of beers and martini options. A special thanks goes out to our friendly server Jeannine. She was attentive and answered all of our questions without hesitation. She knew the menu inside and out and was able to make suggestions and recommendations throughout the whole dinner. Jeannine made us feel right at home!

What a great place. Recommended by local store clerk, great beer selection, love the Innis & Gunn stout and the Mangia Steak was perfection. Nice crowd of people and service spot on!!! Dave and Aaron behind the bar do a bang up job. When back in the area, I’ll def be back!

Went to eat at the Griffon Gastropub (Niagara Falls location). I’ve been to this location a couple of times in the past. On this visit I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The cheeseburger and fries were great the issue and reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because our table was right next to the door and we pretty much had to eat dinner with our winter jackets on. Here’s a tip, if you go make reservations. I wish I would of and will next time.

Things I like about The Griffon:

What I dislike about The Griffon:
— The Roasted Strawberry Salad’s slimy frozen strawberries (they certainly weren’t «fresh» and «oven-​roasted» as promised on the menu). Shame on you, Griffon. This is beneath you.

Amazing Beer list, great service, knowledgeable staff, and excellent food. This is one of our go to places to take out of town guests. Always an excellent meal. I recommend the «Devil’s on Horseback»
My husband claims the chicken and waffles changed his life. The Bacon Jam Burger is also a great choice.

I find «shopping» stressful. This place happens to be across the street from the Outlet mall and is a perfect way to calm those hangry nerves.
The bar is beautiful. TONS of craft beer on tap.
The place is nice and clean. My only complaint was how dark it is. Our booth was at the end of the building and we needed a candle lit to get more light.
We ordered a turkey burger which was a special and a single of medium wings.
On the menu the wings are claimed to be the best by Justin Timberlake and Wayne Gretzky. The wings were very good. Medium sauce was perfect. Big wings. I wouldn’t agree with the Great One and call them the best though. They were a little tough. I wouldn’t come back here just for the wings.
The turkey burger though was incredible. You could taste everything they put on it — corn salsa, avocado, tomato, onion crisps on a beautiful grilled bun. And the turkey burger was cooked to perfection. It came with seasoned fries which were also great.
Next time i’m up north i’ll definitely be back to try a burger or the chicken waffle sandwich with a flight.

Local bar with plenty of parking, and decent bar food options. Of particular note is the pepperoni egg roll.
If you’re in a rush, get your check when you make your order. They’re quick to take and order and fill it, but then you’re on your own.

Best food and most memorable experience at a restaurant. Everything from the service to the cleanliness was on point. We came on recommendations from the front desk at our hotel. I was a little nervous at first but my kids and I will never forget this!!! Jeannine was one if the most knowledgeable servers I have encountered. She clearly loves her job and takes pride in her work. Ken, the owner, makes you feel welcome to say the least. He is an awesome classy down to earth guy. If I lived here I would definitely be a regular. The food was out of this world. Definitely a unique selection. I can’t choose one favorite so I have included photos of a few of our appetizers and entrées, all were delicious. My kids each thought their entrée was the best.
In closing I have to say this visit to griffons was definitely almost as memorable as visiting the falls itself. If I am ever back in the area this will definitely be at the top of my list to experience again. Thank you ken (owner), Jeanine and the rest of the staff of Griffon Pub for not just the awesome food and fabulous service but an experience of a lifetime!!!

I’ve been to the Transit location and had a good time so I was excited to try the food here. This location also has a giant beer list. The menu is almost the same as Transit but there’s a few differences.
My friend made me promise to get the corn fritters, so I did. They were very sweet and tasted like fried dough with random pieces of corn in it. That’s not really a bad thing. My friend hyped them up so hard that it was impossible for me to not be a little disappointed. They were good though, if you’re into sweet things.
My husband had the devils on horseback and stuffed jalapenos. They were both awesome.
I had the panko chicken sandwhich as an entrée. It was good. It’s your typical chicken sandwich. It was somewhat sweet, I think it may be the bread they used.
My husband had a burger. He ordered it medium rare and it came back well done. The waitress came by, asked how we were I said okay and my husband said «okay» with a sad little Eeroye affect. The waitress picked up on this, so he explained the burger situation. She took his burger from him, got him a new one rather quickly and covered one of his beers. So, absolutely amazing service.

I first went to the Griffon last year around this time. The food was excellent and we were nearly the only people there so the service was pretty good. Our waitress was really nice and the chicken and waffle sandwich is a must have if you’re an aspiring southern belle like myself. My date got the Elk burger and he very much enjoyed!
My two-​star rating is for my most recent experience at the Griffon. I was with a group of 5 and we went in to eat probably around 6pm. Mind you, this was the exact same day we came last year (the day before thanksgiving). Same time and everything so we figured it was a safe bet. We walked in, to a fairly busy restaurant however tables were open and no one was waiting in the waiting area. The host and hostess greeted us with a sighing «hiiii» and then whispered to eachother and looked at us and told us AT LEAST 45 minute wait. Again, there were tables open and no one else waiting for a table. We decided to not wait because we were starving. We couldn’t help but feel like the host staff lied to try and lighten the restaurant’s load. Disappointed.

Anyone who has been to Niagara Falls can probably agree that there are slim pickings when it comes to good restaurants. Thankfully, the Griffin Gastropub is a light at the end of the tunnel. This is located about 15 minutes from the actual falls and has delicious food and a great beer selection! I looked on Unilocal and found this place and was determined to eat there.
Like all the reviews said, the beer and food selection is awesome! They have an extensive beer menu and I would describe the food as elegant pub food. Between my family we ordered: baked potato soup, stuffed jalapenos, panko chicken sandwich, and Banh Mi sandwich. The soup and the panko chicken sandwich were definitely the highlights! The Banh Mi sandwich was mediocre, but I kind of blame my parents for ordering something like that there.
I was able to see other meals at other tables and everything looked delicious. The prices are reasonable and the service was great. This is the place to eat at if you’re in this area.

When a disproportionate number of positive reviews exist for a gastropub where you hope to eat a delicious meal, take note. I fired up the Unilocal app one evening near Niagara Falls, New York and immediately noticed that The Griffon Gastropub had so many positive reviews that I was intrigued. Thus, during a recent trip to the Falls, I decided to heed Unilocal’s advice and try the place out for myself. I’m glad I did.
The Griffon Gastropub lived up to my Unilocal-​inflated expectations. Virtually everything I can think of was beyond excellent: the environment, the food, the service. I ordered a calamari appetizer and the chicken gruyère. My friend and I also split an order of potstickers. After having eaten all of the aforementioned menu items, I’m convinced that I one could order pretty much anything on the menu and be satisfied. The calamari was great, the potstickers were impressively flavorful, and the chicken was cooked perfectly and complimented by similarly wonderful smoked Gouda shells and sautéed vegetables. There wasn’t a thing to complain about.
The restaurant itself features a clean, dimly lit, classy atmosphere. Our waitress was conversational and knowledgeable both about the menu items and the beer selection. She even searched for a bottle opener for the bottle of Duvel I ordered to take home with me, to no avail. (No worries on this front. That was a rather atypical request for a sit-​down meal and she did earnestly try to find one anyway.) I even spilled a glass of Pepsi, which I felt bad about doing after having experienced such friendly service; after apologizing profusely, my waitress even took my spill with grace and class.
What else is there to say? I’m serious when I say you should just go in and order anything. Call it a game of Griffon Roulette. Just shut your eyes, spin the menu around, and blindly point at a menu item. Then, order it. You won’t be disappointed.

This place is pretty great! I was here with a group and everyone liked everything they ordered, from the Banh Mi to the burger to the strawberry and salmon salad. The fries and other bar food was on point and a couple of us had fun with the build-​your-​own beer samplers (they have a wide-​ranging list with lots of interesting beers to try). There were lots of interesting items mixed in with traditional crowd pleasers – pretty much something for everyone.
The atmosphere is old-​school pub; not divey but not white-​tablecloth either. You would feel comfortable here in shorts and a T or a summer sundress but there’s no need get all fancy!

Griffon Gastropub gets a solid 3 stars in my book.
The interior was nice and the service was good. The food was only so-​so, however. The potstickers we ordered for our app were just OK. They were super deep fried rather than being steamed/​pan fried, which I was not a huge fan of. The dipping sauce was also sweet and thick like jelly. The mussels I ordered for my entrée were swimming in an overly salted broth. It was like no one cared about seasoning and flavor profiles, they just threw in a ton of salt. The only saving grace was the fresh cilantro they topped the mussels with.
The beer menu was extensive, however, so this seems like a good place to come for a drink. We are not from the Niagara Falls area so this may not happen for us, but I thought it worth mentioning.

Liked the atmosphere and the unique menu. Liked my food. My husband loved all the beers on tap. Great place to eat. Would eat here again.

I had dinner here last night and it was a great experience! I was dining by myself (made a stop for dinner on a loooooooong journey from Philadelphia to Toronto) and sometimes the wait staff can be a bit less than friendly when I’m by myself (especially when I’m not ordering a cocktail), but my waiter was very friendly and courteous.
I ordered the grilled Caesar salad as a starter, and it was HUGE. If that was the starter size salad, I can’t imagine the full sized version. It was very good, tangy, creamy, and smoky at the same time. It was very creative and the flavours balanced each other nicely, but was too big for me to finish.
For my main course, I had the chicken and waffle sandwich, which was absolutely delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly, not too tough or too dry, and the sandwich had just enough of a kick to balance out the fluffiness of the waffle. And the fries were fabulous too — they were done with a barbecue rub and I gobbled them all up. I would definitely return here for the sandwich. A warning though — it’s definitely meant to be eaten with a fork, not your hands. It can get messy!

Beer list and atmosphere here are top notch. You honestly are going to have a hard time making a decision on your beverage with all of the choices you’ve been given. Food is very inventive here including such options as a chicken and waffles sandwich which I recently ordered while here. Sandwich was good however the coleslaw they use here that goes on the sandwich and is also found as a part of other dishes is very heavy on peppers which I felt overpowered and took away from other aspects of the sandwich. I also ordered the loaded baked potato chowder which was good. The crab dip makes a great appetizer.
Servers are always really good here. Be sure to make a reservation if you plan on coming here during dinner time. I look forward to sampling more items from their unique menu next time I visit.

It was the 4^th of July, and we spent the day bicycling up and down the falls. We wanted something substantial, as we were combining lunch and dinner. I suggested this place based on my experience at the Williamsville location Elite event.
I was not disappointed. It was a pretty quiet afternoon, which was lucky for us, I believe it’s usually pretty busy. There was a little confusion at the hostess station, but another employee swooped in and gave us a seat.
The area is sparse, but also charming, with tin ceilings and some pretty antique pendant lighting over the bar area.
They have poutine on my menu, and well … if you read my reviews on a regular basis, you know the deal. I have to order it. It is quite good, with decently thick fries, nice soft curds and a rich gravy that isn’t too salty.
Next, I decided to order the chicken and waffle sandwich, which is also on the Williamsville menu. This is a great sandwich, but I wouldn’t recommend using your hands. It’s a big thick piece of chicken, slaw, cheese, bacon and of course waffles. It’s a giant sweet/​salty/​fatty/​fried combination, best eaten slowly, savoring every bite. It was delicious, and I really love their slaw, which is a bit spicy.
Another thing I’m a huge fan of is the way they serve their beers. You have a choice of 22oz, 16oz, 12oz, and then a sampler which is 6oz. So if you want a lot of beer or just want to sample, they’ve got you covered. It’s nice to be able to make my own sampler rather than having to rely on a curated one. There’s nothing wrong with curated ones, I just like to make interesting combinations. This time, I did a number of flavored/​fruit beers that I wouldn’t ordinarily try in full sizes.
Our waitress was gratingly chipper, which was both amusing and a little distracting. I have no complaints about the service though, she was on point throughout.
If you’re in Niagara Falls NY and you like beer, the 50 taps of local and far-​flung beers are calling your name. A must visit.

I don’t really know how to start this one. It was one of those experiences that has me wondering what the job market and house market in the local area look like.
Our waitress seemed so happy to be working there. She was so excited about the menu and all the different items. She was quick and friendly and she was attentive without being intrusive.
I started with the poutine and it was (pauses to find a word that can convey…) awesome. Not like Southern California surfer tool awesome but hitting 4 of 6 lotto numbers awesome. The gravy was just the right thickness and had a very rich flavor. The fries were crisp and then mushy in the middle. The curds were popping and a plenty.
The creamy, cheesy, broccoli and chicken soup cup was next and it was very nice. I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the extra adjective in its name but it did. Huge chunks of chicken and broccoli and it was creamy, so creamy.
To cap it off I had the Toffee Heath Cookie Crusted (I know I’m missing stuff here) cheesecake. I really should have just handed my keys to the waitress and called a cab. It was an effort to get back to the hotel without food coma dozing into a ditch.
I have a lot of 5 star places because they deserve it but this was on another level. Well done!!!

I can’t believe that I JUST tried this place for the first time. I’ve driven by here and never thought to stop in and try it until I turned to my fellow Unilocalers to find a local place to dine. Sure enough, The Griffon is a popular place by the locals and highly reviewed too.
After salivating at the 200+ photos posted (I added more to help you with your process), I had an idea of what I wanted to order once I came here.
Upon arriving, we waited about 20 minutes to be seated. It was busy and we came without a reservation but that’s okay, my friend and I had a lot of things to catch up on! Once seated, recommendations were given and there are so many great options we didn’t know which way to go.
We opted for the «special» burger, which that week was ostrich. I’ve never had ostrich so I did not know what to expect but our waitress, Janine (who BTW is so extremely pleasant) highly recommended it so I thought why not! For the side, I got the Gouda Mac and cheese.
This was such an amazing burger that I really did not want it to finish. It was just constant bursts, pops and, explosions of flavor in every bite. The meat was so tender and flavorful, tastes like beef but more rich. I would definitely get this burger again. The Gouda Mac and cheese was to die for, so much flavor in that, I kept eating after I was full.
Dessert: Their dessert is brought from the Village Bake Shoppe in Lewiston, we got the red velvet cake slice and the Oreo cake slice. Both were so delicious and dense, also the portions were generous. I preferred the red velvet, but I’m not a big Oreo fan to begin with.
Service was amazing, food was amazing, atmosphere was amazing, no complaints here. I would come again! :)

If you ever find yourself wondering if you should check out Griffon, just know the answer is yes.
Bahn Mi, waffle poutine, Mangia steak sandwich, Hand breaded Shrimp Po’boy, calamari, Crab and Lobster cakes. So many unique and wonderful things to choose from, and an amazing beer menu to compliment it.
Staff is friendly and right on the ball, the owner Ken is very personable, and the ambiance cannot be beat.

It was almost midnight when we dragged ourselves to The Griffon Pub after a full day of work and the drive.
Sadly the full kitchen was closed but there was still limited pub grabs available.
Black and Tan Onion Rings ($ 6) was a good snack to go with the beers. Though I was hoping that they were a little more crispy.
And of course the reason and the only reason we were here: BEERs! 50 crafted beer available on taps and any of the combination of Four 6 oz can be ordered as a flight. Each of the samples are priced individually around $ 2-​$ 3.5.
Decision, Decision, Decision. Which should I Untappd!

I guess I need to come back when the full kitchen is open to sample some of their food too next time when I am in the area. And of course, I would always be back for their beers!

Excellent Service, Great Atmosphere, Awesome food and an EPIC selection of Craft brews on Tap… it is basically what sums up a very good experience at «The Griffon» Gastropub. Only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Fashion Outlet Mall in Niagara Falls, this unsuspecting beige building on Military Trail houses one of the best craft brew beer selections in Niagara Falls or Buffalo or even Toronto. Looking at the Unilocal reviews …145 reviews and 4.5 average star rating… this place must be good.
Our first visit was on a Friday night and we walked in expecting to find a table… nope…The Griffon’s reputation of great food and service is that you need to call ahead for a reservation on most weekend nights. My wife and I booked for the next evening. We arrived for our reservation the next evening and we were greeted warmly by Ken (who I found out later was one of the owners) we were shown our table. Our table was already pre set up with water and lemons slices. Our server Jordan came by our table within 2 min of us settling in. If there was room to do a review on Jordan’s service I would write one. Steps of service. excellent, Food and beverage knowledge. excellent, guest experience… excellent. Having worked in the hospitality industry for a number of years, you learn to appreciate and look for excellence in service and Jordan hit all the marks.
Upon reading from Unilocal reviews that they had flights of beer (usually 3 – 6 different drinks 2−3oz each served on a paddle) The Griffon flight was 4 2 oz beers from the selection of 50 (BTW the selection changes every 5 weeks and on some weeks the selections change daily depending on traffic) I asked Jordan for some suggestions, he was well versed and gave me some excellent choice (Campfire Stout. mmmm)
On reading reviews of past Unilocaler’s menu selections, we started with the Bacon Jam Bruschetta as the appetizer and I opted for the Bacon Jam Burger (maple bacon bourbon jam, Gorgonzola cheese and a fried egg) with a side of sweet potato fries tossed in a honey butter, my wife chose the Panko Chicken sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy for our entrees. The Bacon Jam Bruschetta was a sweet bourbon and bacon flavor with a hit of Gorgonzola. great taste! The Bacon Jam burger. probably one of the greatest burger creations ever. savory, salty, fresh and juicy. I tried my wife’s Panko Chicken. The chicken was crunchy and an excellent portion size, bacon was crisp and the bun was soft. Our sides were also very good.
The portion sizes were quite big and we almost didn’t have room for dessert, but we stuffed «The Pillows of Love» (Deep fried pastry with vanilla, chocolate and raspberry coulis) in our stomachs. If your reading other reviews on Unilocal and cant believe the 4.5 star rating from over 145 reviews… believe it. it’s good. it’s awesome. and it is now a «must visit» in our Niagara Shopping trips. Thanks to Ken and Jordan and the rest of «The Griffon» staff for making it a great night out!
Note: It was so good. that we went again the next day for lunch… also awesome!

If you’re in the area – for example, shopping at the outlet mall down the street – and need to grab a bite, I suggest skipping the plentiful chain restaurants and fast food spots in favor of The Griffin. I’m embarrassed to say my husband and I ended up here last month only because Smashburger was jam-​packed. What a glorious turn of fate though!
With a cool and rustic inside, emphasis on quality beer, an inspired menu, and exceptional service, this gastropub has got it going on.
Our waiter, who has worked at The Griffin for years, was super-​friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly takes pride in his job and in this establishment. Told us all about the various game meats that have been featured as reasonably priced specials – kangaroo, venison, bison, alligator, and wild boar just to name a few.
Almost 5 stars. I couldn’t quite go all the way because my Mangia Steak Sandwich, while tasty and flavorful, was just too chewy to thoroughly enjoy. Maybe cutting the steak into smaller pieces would have made it less of a chore to eat. That, and not-​so-​bready bread.
If the above seems like your cup of tea, then even consider going out of your way for a meal at The Griffin. I don’t think you’d be disappointed.
