After honing their professional talents for ten years, Tanya Mitnik and Katya Cirigliano put their heads together to create a personal refuge where their diverse Boston-​area clients could enjoy the best day spa regiments from the beauty enclaves of New York, London and Paris. The results of their vision can now be found at Tete-​a-​Tete, the full service salon they launched with European flair in Newton, MA in March 1998. The salon was named Tete-​a-​Tete meaning one-​to-​one in French. It’s an appropriate metaphor to describe the thought process at Tete-​a-​Tete cut and color group. I stopped in as a walk-​in and despite being pretty busy they were able to take me within 10 minutes. My hairdresser, Regina, was super nice and asked me enough questions to understand what I was looking for. Regina was very personable and just a great person. My review is for my husbands haircut. His barber was Bill.
Finally he gets a normal haircut, I wish I can show you a photo but he did not want me to show. His haircut was much shorter then I can ever remember, it made his face look slim and the cut looks perfect for his face shape. The haircut is called a long contour.
Usually he gets his haircuts around town and he just doesn’t look right for a week because of the bad job by other barbers, not this time thanks to you Bill!

I honestly hate changing stylists because I’m incredibly vain when it comes to my hair and once I find a stylist that understands me I don’t let them go. Unfortunately, due to a job change, I lost my stylist and I had to search for a new one, which is a horrifying experience for me. However, I was advised to check out Tete a Tete and to ask for Bill.
I have nothing but amazing things to say about the entire experience. Bill is amazing. Great personality and a good eye for what works and what doesn’t. I came in with the most vague directions and he was able to read my mind and I walked out happier than I’ve ever been after getting my hair styled.
Donna, the receptionist, is wonderful as well. Very kind and personable. I have found my new salon! :)

Bill and Sandra have cut my hair and they both do an excellent job by creating a stylish cut. Sandra is a pro when it comes to highlights too. I receive compliments on my hair color all the time. The only downfall is that the salon is in Newton so it is pricey.

Sandra is a talented stylist! It is so hard to find someone who knows how to handle my long, wavy, and chemically damaged Jew-​fro-​Latina hair. It really needs to be handled by a pro and Sandra did an amazing job giving my hair flattering shape and taking some of the weight out of it. It was also much easier to style for the next month or so.
She didn’t openly seem annoyed when I requested my hair be blown out which has happened to me in the past with previous stylists at other salons. I really enjoy getting my hair blown out and it was nice to actually get a blow out that held up for days.

After one visit to Bill at Tete a Tete in Newton Center, I knew I had found my new hairdresser! Bill and the other stylists are so talented. They take the time to make sure they understand what you want, yet are not afraid to make recommendations. I trust Bill’s judgement as he always does a fantastic job. I’ll keep going here as long as I live in the area!

Love Love Love my hair!!! The place is clean and pretty. The staffs are great and very friendly! I have been coming here to see Denis Pinhone my hair stylist for about 2 years now and he does wonders. I always leave with the best hair ever. I get so many compliments every where I go. He is friendly and always takes his time with you no matter how busy it gets. Which I love I hate it when people rush you. He listens and gives advices when needed. Hard to find a hairstylist that actually listens to what you are looking to get done. I have nothing but good things to say about this place and Denis. Xoxox!

Oh man, my hair has been through a lot in my 30 years on the planet. It’s been every color under the sun and then some. It’s gone from black to blonde and back again. Honestly, I’m astonished that it hasn’t fallen out.
I have very fine hair, but oh man, there is a LOT of it. My old stylist Mari used to have to thin it out every 2 – 3 months. She was a miracle worker with my lion’s mane and I was sad to see her go to the west coast. I’d bummed around from Salon to Salon, desperately seeking someone who wouldn’t cut my hair short with clippers, or razor down my split ends. I ultimately gave up after spending thousands of my hard earned dollars on Newbury Street, because I felt like what I was getting was as good as I could do myself at home after a trip to Sally’s. Then I found Bill.
Bill is a godsend! I completely swear by the fact that a great haircut and/​or color can change your life. Dead ends and split ends are GONE. He thinned it out marvelously, without the use of those godawful thinning shears. He took the time to listen to my long term hair needs/​wants and was willing to work with me to get me the hair I love! I’m getting married in a year and I’m trying to grow out the mop, while going blonder from the Christina Hendrick’s Red that I was currently sporting. He made it look like I was blonde from the get go with tons of red low lights, creating a stunning Strawberry blonde. He expertly layered my hair to get rid of all the dead and the weight without sacrificing the length. All the while chatting up a storm and making me laugh so hard I almost cried. He’s a sweetheart and a champion of the sheers! He told me how much he LOVES to do men’s haircuts too, so my fiancé will be paying him a visit soon. He’s expensive, but worth every red cent!

No one even could tell I got my hair cut. I called and asked for Diego — after seeing all the rave reviews, as the receptionist put it «he moved to Brazil, and is not coming back» (she was super friendly). I went ahead and made an appointment with another stylist because I just needed a simple haircut and this place is close. I repeatedly kept asking for it cut above the shoulders, «no you can make it a little shorter than that» I said 3 – 4 times before giving up and leaving with barely a 2″ trim that cost way more than it should have.

I’ve been going here for close to two years now and it’s great. Bill does a great job and everyone is very friendly and makes everything as smooth as possible. There plenty of street parking and a massive lot across the street. Also it’s about a 2 minute walk from the Newton Centre T station making it very accessible. I would highly recommend this place to anyone interested in getting a serious haircut.

I had my first haircut with Tanya (she usually does my color) right before I went on vacation. Not only did it look great when I left the salon, but it was SO easy to manage while I was away. I received alot of positive feedback on the look and it practically styled itself each time I washed it… a sign of a precision cut. Catherine has also given this same quality of cut. I am very happy with my Tete a Tete experience and recommend it to my friends.

How have I not written a review for Tete a Tete yet?! Finding a new salon is one of the worst parts of moving (for me at least), so I tried Tete a Tete at the recommendation of a friend when I moved from CT a year and a half ago. I could not have been more thrilled. I have never gotten more compliments on my hair since I started going to Sandra here! I’ve been able to go a little blonder than I have in the past because the highlights are so natural and somehow manage to grow out without extreme roots. Though my haircut is pretty simple, I’m always very pleased with that result as well. Prices I think are pretty standard and well worth the quality of services here. I highly, highly recommend Tete a Tete, especially my girl Sandra!

I cheated on my stylist to come here because I was suffering from a case of brokeassness. Groupon came through for me in my time of need and gave me a serious discount (from what I would normally pay anyway) on a cut and color. I decided to use the day I was leaving town for a wedding to get my hair done, per usual – if I have an event, I hold the hair appointment off until right before – 2 birds with one stone, I say.
This place is about a quarter the size of my usual salon. Fine. But that also means it was super cramped. Le sigh. Not a very relaxing situation.
My flight was 7ish and my appointment was at 2:30 PM. This should be plenty of time… It was not. This was the fault of the colorist.
I was excited about the prospect of organic color. The process is different than usual, and there are lots of steps. Warp the hair, put it under the heat, take it out of the heat. I was told the timing for each step and left alone. Fantastic. So the colorist did her thing, and walked away at each step. She disappeared. The timer went off. She didn’t come back until 10 – 20 mins after each step should be finished (which wasted more than 30 mins of my precious pre-​flight time). At one point the stylist, Bill, noticed me looking around for her and took care of it himself. I was beyond livid.
Bill cut my hair as the clock ran down. We went downstairs into a part of the hair salon which reminded me of my basement rec room in high school. He was funny, and sweet, and I loved him. He worked like a mad man to give me a style in the remaining 20-​minute left before I lapsed into the zone of missed flights. He did not remotely accomplish the style I requested – was it a failure of articulation on my part? But he gave me giant newscaster hair in the allotted time period (which was not BAD, just not what I wanted), and I was grateful for his hustle. I tipped the man and GTFO.
While Bill was fantastic, I just can’t beat my regular stylist as far as cut goes. I loved my color (it’s only been 4 washes since, so I can’t tell you if it will last), but the colorist created a cascading series of events which caused me to just narrowly make my flight (and I mean running to the gate Home Alone-​style). So, all ye with plans after your appointments take heed.

Owen invited me for my hair review and cut my hair properly in layers. She also suggested some good products for my hair and I found them equally good. Overall, a satisfactory experience after the disappointing first one. and I did like my new hair cut!!! :)
However, I could still sense that air of rudeness a bit. Owner suggested I should get my hair cut from someone else next time cause I won’t be able to afford her prices. Hello… what??? Do you even know how much I earn??? Just because I bought a groupon doesn’t mean you judge me other way. but, I am not getting my hair done there again anyway.
The girl (red colored short hair) who did blow dry seem pretty friendly and nice.

I needed a haircut and in general, I’m not horribly picky as long as I have a decent do that looks fairly up-​to-​date.
There was a little bit of a wait before someone could wash my hair so I people watched. There were two employees responsible for washing hair, a gentleman and a woman. The woman seemed to a little pressed for time and slightly frazzled. Across from her was a lady cutting hair who was downright nasty to the woman washing hair — condescending, passive aggressive, and overall, inappropriate. What is completely reprehensible is that everyone went about their business like this was normal acceptable behaviour!
I’m sorry but I’ve had my share of work place unfriendliness and really wonder if I want to sponsor a business that treats their employees like this. It made me sad… very sad.
As for the haircut, it was perfectly fine. It seemed to me that most women were here for colour treatments (so maybe that’s where their expertise is) but I actually like my natural colour.

I’ve been on the prowl for a new stylist for my straight, fine hair. While having brunch at Masa in Woburn, I saw a glorious head of straight red hair, beautifully layered, and knew I had to see this woman’s stylist.
She told me to see Diego at Tete a Tete. Sold.
I went on a beautiful, warm Saturday and while fighting my way through Newton Center, I thought there could not be a haircut in the world worth this headache.
I was wrong.
After stabbing someone to get a parking spot, I ran in to my appointment a full 15 minutes late. Mortifying. Everyone was very pleasant and polite despite my lateness, and I was whisked away quickly for a shampoo and offered something to drink. Nice touch.
When I asked Diego what he recommended for my hair, he was very tactful and recommended I go short (hair was past my shoulders). It was then that I realized – horrors! – that I’d been walking around with a less-​than-​stellar haircut.
Diego fixed that. He is thorough, meticulous and professional, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my cut. The layers are beautiful, it is definitely more fashion forward than what I’ve had in the past and he paid attention to every little detail. Also, he didn’t try to sell me any products which I appreciated. I bought something anyway.
I walked out of the salon looking and feeling like a million bucks. Will DEFINITELY be back (and on time), and I can’t recommend Diego and Tete a Tete highly enough if you’re looking to freshen up your look.
It was such a good experience that I wasn’t even mad about the parking ticket on my car!
