Very unsatisfied… The food was mediocre and the drinks were so watered down it didn’t even taste like alcohol was put in them. When we ordered shots to put into the drinks to make them real drinks they were never brought to us until after we were done with our dinners AND drinks, almost a half an hour later. Our waitress was purposefully ignoring us when we tried multiple times to get her attention to cancel the shot order, then we were charged incorrectly on our bill. I wish I could say it was a busy night but it wasn’t at all.

We had a table of 8 and went before the 7:00 show at the theater. Our orders were all in by 5:30 and we were still 5 minutes late for the show. There were not many diners in the restaurant at the time and no one ordered anything very complicated; mostly sandwiches and burgers. Our server was very sweet and apologetic but there were several hiccups beyond the nearly hour wait for our food. One person ordered two appetizers for her dinner and was not told until after the food came out that one was not available. My eggplant panini was so greasy that it was a little sickening. My husband ordered a vegetable to replace the fries but seemed only to get an extra large serving of fries. One person ordered the German combo and it looked outstanding! I think there’s definitely potential and I’m not saying I won’t go back at some future time but the kitchen needs some help.

Was a bit disappointed. Service was great but too fast. I got my soup but my wife’s salad was entered as a main course. My dinner came before her salad and I got thru half of my soup. I had the French onion but it was way too salty. The sauerbraten was great. Prices are very reasonable and again, service was great but they need to slow down. And cut the salt in the soup by 90%.

Menu is ok. Beer selection is terrible, just macro beer. You would think that a «pub» that had a year wait for their license would plan the beer selection with more care.

I don’t get all the positive reviews on this place other than they are probably friends of the owners. The prices are very reasonable but as the saying goes, «you get what you pay for». Food and service was below par. Crab cake appetizer wasn’t bad but was served with a pool of salty dipping sauce. My wife ordered a eggplant panini which was so oily she couldn’t get past a few bites. My tuna entrée was a large portion but dry and without much flavor. Poor beer selection. The waitress intentionally dropped the check on our table in her rush to get to the next table. Think they have some kinks to work out.

Good steaks at a fair price. It’s a BYOB which is nice. Atmosphere ok, nothing special but good location in downtown Newton.

Worst service I ever had in my life. Had 4 separate waitresses not even acknowledge me at the bar. They wouldn’t even look my way. Took about 15 minutes at the bar of about 10 people to get another drink. Absolutely awful! Would give it 0 stars if I could.

Jäger Schnitzel is very good, as is the Wedge Salad. I was surprised they weren’t more packed for a Friday night, but they just recently got their liquor license squared away, so word may not have caught on yet. German foods are a specialty of the owner, which convinced me to try some, and I’m glad I did. All the staff were very kind and helpful, and extremely tolerant of the fact that we had a baby with us which left me flustered often and slow to react. The only thing that bugged me a little was I swore I smelled cigarette smoke when I passed through the bar area on the way in and when we left. Maybe smoking in restaurants is permitted here. Not sure, but I didn’t like the baby being exposed to it(they tell you nowadays to avoid secondhand smoke around the baby as much as possible). Fortunately, the dining area had no trace of smoke smell at all, so it really didn’t impact our experience significantly. If so, we would have left. Glad we didn’t have to.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrreat Sauerbraten! I didn’t know how delicious Sauerbraten could be until I tried it here. Spring Street has an interesting, creative menu, friendly wait staff, and reasonable prices. Their menu has a small section of German Specialties, we had most of them for dinner, and they were really delicious. Appetizers were(and you’ll see this one in some other reviews) Bang Bang Shrimp delicious, and Broccoli Rabe & Sausage over Polenta — a little over salted for me. All in all a great place to eat for casual family dining. We joked over dinner, that if we could rent an apartment upstairs from the restaurant, I’d stop cooking, and we’d just go downstairs for meals. ;) Oh yea, for people who are worried about this kind of thing, sounds like their liquor license goes into effect next month. So go get your drink on, yo!

World’s Best Sauerbraten Had an early dinner on a Friday night and we were pleasantly surprised. Good service, reasonable prices and good food, especially the sauerbraten which was outstanding. I’ve been to many German restaurants and even to Munich twice and this was far and away the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately I only got a taste, since it was my wife who ordered it. Only downer — the décor is decidedly uninspired. Would probably fit right in at a Bob Evans in Nebraska. Definitely not any of the Trendy or Hipster or Romantic choices that Unilocal gives you. But if you happen to be in Newton and need a decent meal, this place is OK. If you’re jonesing sauerbraten, it’s worth a trip. Any day now, they are about to get their liquor license, but when we were there it was BYOB.

Well… we went because the reviews were just off the wall about The food, which was very good but being there was just so uncomfortable because the staff was too lax, loud and obnoxious. We had a late dinner so we were almost the last people in the place. Ok, we are in the middle of nowhere, late here is after 8:30 pm.(Please stop laughing) since it was just us on the one side of the restaurant we thought it would be cozy, intimate and quiet for the two of us but noooooo. We had the waiter from hell. Loud, obnoxious .u name it… we had it. In fact the staff were nice but they were just gathering in the same room were were trying to enjoy our meal in and complaining about customers, bad tips, etc. Then the occasional…” U guys ok over over there?”…we saw him run out as he chased another diner down the street for giving him a bad tip! It was just an awesome experience. We wanted coffee and desert but felt since at 9:30 pm they started running the vacuum .to further enhance the lovely dining experience… we just had to leave… Maybe we will go for a lunch but never again for dinner. Unless they figure out how to make the experience a bit better. Funny, empty for a Friday night. Food was good tho…

Pleasantly surprised. Our dinners were excellent. The portions were large. We ended having dinner for the following night. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. Prices were extremely reasonable for the amount of food we received. The dining room was comfortable. And most important it’s a BYOB restaurant.

We drove again, over 50 minutes, to experience this exceptional menu. Well worth the trip! We have eaten in many a «fine dining» establishment, this pub’s chef blows most of them right out of the water. The food is delicious and creative. How they manage this food at such value prices, I do not know. Can’t wait to return.

Excellent food and value. My husband had the saurbraten and I had the orange roughy. Best fish I’ve had in years — amazing! He was equally impressed with. his entrée. Even something as simple as the house salad was exceptional. BYOB and enjoy! :-) Add the Spring Street Linguini to the list of awesome choices!

Came to Newton for a show and stopped in for a bite and a pleasant surprise! Everything we tried here was exceptional from the mussels in garlic appetizer to the German combo entre. We will drive 45 minutes to come here again soon!

A great dinner, had the«bang bang shrimp» and the pretzel crusted crab cake as an appetizer. They were great. For dinner we had the shrimp Fra diavilo(excuse the spelling) Tilapia with shrimp and spinach for the Mrs. It was wonderful. It’s still BYOB but the service and food was wonderful we’ll be back.

Came here out of curiosity. What a great find this place was great! The food was first class and the staff was super nice. I had the pretzel crusted crab cake appetizer $ 8 my bride had the sassy garlic shrimp $ 8. The veal gervazzi was outstanding. As well as the German combo. No liquor license yet but feel free to BYOB. Nothing disappointing about my experience here I will defiantly be back!!!

I like this place. Went for a girls night out and I found the service to be really good. It’s true that they don’t have a liquor license yet, but that doesn’t bother me. I actually think it helps with keeping the cost reasonable. They have a good mix of Italian, German & American fair, as well as burgers and sandwiches. We started the night with a bunch of appetizers. The Pretzel Crusted Crab Cakes were delicious, and the Spidini Alla Romana has to be the one of the best I’ve ever tasted. For dinner, I had the special, Chicken Rollatini, which was a little over cooked, but still good. My friends had the Shrimp Fra Diavolo & Orange Ruffy. We were all satisfied with our dishes, and the portions are generous. All & all, I think this is a good choice when in the area.
