Jules Ko Photography

Thank you, Jules, for making our engagement shoot surprisingly fun and memorable. We could not have asked for or dreamed of better engagement photos than what you have captured.
(**Please note that these statements comes from two exceptionally awkward humans, especially in front of the camera… my fiancé regularly uses his hand to block his face when I try to snap a shot, and prior to our engagement shoot, we had a total of 4 photos together from 1.5 years of dating.)
Jules provided helpful advice about when to shoot our engagement photos and helped us decide where to do it and what to wear. Prior to the session, we had warned and apologized to Jules about how uncomfortable we may feel in front of the camera and hoped we would not ruin her portfolio. But she was very professional, efficient, yet hilarious and extremely comfortable to be around. Jules gave us clear and succinct instructions for how to stand, where to place our limbs, and what to do. Somehow, she had us laughing naturally, disregarding all people touring and studying around us in the Boston Public Library on a Saturday afternoon!
We were amazed when the photos came out; we looked very relaxed, happy, and like… (much more beautiful versions of) ourselves. One of my friends who was also engaged saw our photos noted sadly, «Oh. No. I should have booked Jules to shoot my engagement and wedding…» Unfortunately, I think she was right.
We are incredibly grateful that Jules captured our engagement. Preparation for marriage, as I commonly hear and now personally experience, has its ups and downs. During the low points, our engagement photos have served as a reminder of how blessed we are to have each other and to have such sweet moments artistically captured by Jules Ko.
Once again, thank you, Jules, so much. We know our photos will continue to bless our relationship for years and years to come.

I can’t say enough amazing things about Jules! We absolutely LOVED her from the moment we met her. She’s easy going and extremely professional. And we’ve loved the results of her photos as well. I can’t imagine a better photographer. But more than that, I think she’s just such a nice person and you really want to spend time with her.
If I could give her a million stars, I would. But all I can say is, Jules is the BEST!

Jules is a really great photographer but above all, she’s a great people person.
I hired Jules to take my portrait for my business website. She takes the time to get to know you, your personality and what the photos are for so that she can bring out the very best. She is a great listener and made an effort to put me at ease when I came to her studio for the photo shoot. Apart from my wedding, I’ve never taken any formal portraits so I came in feeling awkward and not knowing what to do with myself, my hands and how to pose. Jules put me at ease because I knew that she was confident in the process and told me exactly what to do, where to put my hands and each pose felt natural and not contrived. The whole thing actually turned out to be a lot of fun, like two women just hanging out.
After about an hour of taking photos, Jules helped me to narrow down the top contenders and the proofs that she sent me a day later came out fantastic. She managed to make me look like I was glowing from the inside rather than a forced smile under some fake lighting. I’m so glad that Jules was the one to take my portrait. I will definitely be hiring her again for anything else that comes up in the future.

It was a pleasure working with Jules Ko before, during (with her husband assisting day of), and after the wedding. We did some broad canvassing online and looked at many of the best or well-​known photographers around the Boston area. If you look at their photos, it’s obvious that all of them take high-​quality photos, and you probably won’t go wrong with any of them. After this initial research, we e-​mailed and met with a few of them to take a look at what packages they offered and some sample albums. Package and pricing are roughly the same among the top photographers.
We met up with Jules, and we had an almost instant rapport with her. She was professional and eager to make sure what type of photos we were looking for. One of the unique packages that Jules offers is an «unlimited» hours package which meshed well with our wedding day — morning ceremony at 11 AM, Chinese banquet in Chinatown from 6 to 11 PM, and wedding party pictures in between, so we were looking at over 12 hours of coverage. This package was price competitive, had all the items (albums, DVDs, other things) that we wanted, her photos looked awesome, and the albums we saw were beautifully crafted, so we were sure we’d found the photographer for our wedding day.
During the day of the wedding, there were no issues from Jules’s end which is exactly what you’d want — coordinating a wedding is already difficult enough. (We wouldn’t recommend going for such a marathon wedding day, and I’m sure that Jules and her husband were (almost) as tired as we were, but they never once showed any hint of fatigue!)
After the wedding, Jules was prompt with preparing the photos (which takes a few months time) so that we could view them. We’re still in the process of choosing the photos for our album, but we’re almost certain that we’re going to love it. We’ve received many compliments regarding the quality of the photos (thank you Facebook) so we highly recommend Jules Ko Photography.

Jules came out to capture our wedding day in California wine country. The photos she took on our wedding were simply amazing; we’re so happy and thankful that she came to capture our day! In a way, she also preemptively saved the day, as our lighting was rather poor due to storm clouds. We have received tons of compliments from friends young (twenties) and old (60’s+) on the quality of our photos. The younger crowd, esp. those who brought their own «pro camera equipment» to our wedding, were amazed at how she handled the darker lighting conditions; her pictures turned out so crisp and clear!
Even now after 2+ years since our wedding, we still have many inquiries on who our photographer was and how professional everything looked. Many of them are Taiwanese, and are accustomed to the Taiwanese wedding photography industry, but they like Jules’ style of «noninvasive touch-​ups» to accentuate the natural elegance much more.
We really like the memorable candids Jules took — some of which happened in just a few seconds — and love the ones she captured of our friends and family that we did not get to see during our wedding! Jules comes highly recommended from us, as we count ourselves lucky to have had her do our photos; she rocks!

I can’t believe I have written this review yet! Well, I guess we just got back our finished photos, but let me start from the beginning. We got married in the Bay Area, CA last Oct and had Jules come out to shoot for our big day. I appreciated her questions and organization prior to the wedding and during the day itself, she did a seamless job in getting herself to where she needed to be at the right time and in an unassuming, but detail-​oriented way. After the ceremony, she was very professional dealing with the pushy Asian families: P who want to get their million and one shots in. She did an awesome job with the pictures themselves, couldn’t have asked for anything more. She really captured quite a bit of our loving, silly, crazy selves. Thank you, Jules!

For an amazing, worry-​free experience, and for breathtaking and spectacular results, be sure to book Jules and Dan as your wedding photographers. Working with them was one of the best decisions we made when we planned our wedding. Everything was straightforward with them from start to end; there were no surprises and they delivered beyond what we expected.
My husband and I spent a great amount of time and energy making sure our other wedding vendors got things right, but not once did we have to check up on our photographers or remind them of anything because they were so on top of their game. Hiring them was one of the things we are relieved we got right, because when all is said and done you really only have photos to remember your special day, and the photos by Jules and Dan are something we will cherish for a lifetime.
As a bride-​to-​be, I attended several wedding expos, which exposed me the work of many photographers in the area, and I think Jules and Dan are definitely top-​tier in their quality, performance, and professionalism. They understand not only how to produce great photos, but how to execute it well, as they were impressively non-​intrusive during the whole event. There is life in our photos, and the magic of that special day is clearly captured in all of our photos as well.

I was extremely pleased with Dan and Jules as our wedding photographers.
In terms of quality, I was extremely happy with the quality and quantity of shots that were taken. Not only that, I tend to be a bit picky with my pictures and not only think about the picture quality, but the emotional/​artistic quality. Sometimes you can put good equipment in the hands of a bad photographer and you may get sharp pictures, but no feeling. The picture has no life and just seems kind of… blah. I definitely don’t feel this way with Dan and Jules. In general, there tended to be a lot of warmth with their pictures that really just brings back the full emotion of that particular moment. I have been to a lot of weddings this past year with other friends getting married and just remember thinking «wow, i’m sooooo glad we have such awesome pictures to remember our wedding by. These pictures (from others’ weddings) just don’t seem to have the same kind of life.
As for how it was to work with them, they were always very professional. They met with us beforehand to see what kind of shots we liked, the general feel of the shots, etc. On the day of the wedding, Dan came over to my place bright and early to shoot the men getting ready. Jules did the same for the women. As the day went on, we got dressed, went and took some pictures in the city, and eventually met up with the women as well. Dan and Jules came together with us and took pics of the entire bridal party. They were very efficient and fun to work with telling us what we needed to do and the best way to position ourselves.
During the ceremony they had so many shots and we barely noticed them. They knew how to get the right angles without intruding and there were just so many times when we were looking through the pictures and thinking…“how did they get so close to us? I never even saw them!!»
My wife and I had a fairly budget wedding but memories are so important and weren’t something we were willing to take a chance on. Dan and Jules are extremely wonderful photographers who know their stuff and have great eyes for what makes a good picture. They were a pleasure to work with and were worth every penny (even more probably)

We were so delighted to have such a warm, easygoing and talented photographer capture a few precious moments of me, my husband Bill and our daughter a few months ago. Having the photos completed was effortless on our part and Jules just makes it all look so easy, but we do know just how difficult it is to capture wonderful candid shots.
Jules made us all look fantastic and we will now have these gorgeous photos as memories of our growing family forever. Needless to say Myung & Ko photography comes highly recommended!
