Description

Specialties

Historic Newton is a local history organization based in Newton, MA. We operate two museums: the Jackson Homestead and Museum and the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds. The Jackson Homestead and Museum was a stop on the Underground Railroad and is now part of the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. The Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds on Waverley Avenue interprets three centuries of the history of Newton and our nation. Home of Edward Durant, a member of the local Committee of Correspondence and a patriot who fought in the Revolutionary War, the museum interprets Newton’s place in the American Revolution. It also tells the story of the Kenrick family, commercial horticulturists who introduced many fruits that people eat today in the U.S. We also offer programming throughout the year for families and education groups.
