Honeys Iga of Newton

Honey’s has the distinct pleasure (?) of being one of the last grocery stores in the Newton area, save for a Food Lion about a mile away and a Wal*Mart a few miles away. If you’re going here, you really don’t have much of a choice. But anyway:
Honey’s is a victim of its own situation. As an IGA, it is subject to the whims and capabilities of buying agents, who apparently tend to shoot low. As an IGA, it also appears to be limited in terms of the capital it needs to upgrade the building it is in. And, to cap it all off, Honey’s itself is in a relatively low-​income town, meaning that cash flow is going to be limited. It’s hard to appease customers like that.
There’s no way to put this nicely: Honey’s feels old. The place looks like it stepped out of a cheap version of the 80s, and the dismal lighting and generic looking advertising doesn’t help. I’m almost certain that this is because they don’t have the money (and won’t be getting the money) to upgrade, but it still feels dismal.
The selection here is decent, and has gotten a LOT better over time.
Still, this is not the most appetizing place to shop, and it really isn’t entirely their fault.
