At Family ACCESS Early Learning Center, formerly known as Newton Community Service Center (NCSC), you will find safe, nurturing care for your child and a commitment to healthy childhood development that impacts your whole family. Our programs for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers are structured to enable each child to maximize his/her potential through child-centered, open-ended, non-competitive experiences. Guided by caring teaching professionals, children engage in individual and group play, active and quiet play, indoor and outdoor play, dramatic play, art, games, books and literacy activities, block building, cooking, laughing, exploring, discovering, and experimenting. Families here represent many cultures, speak many languages, and — naturally — look at life through different lenses. This rich tapestry that underlies our community strengthens our friendships and develops understanding and respect in our children.
History
Established in 1907.
Founded as a forward-thinking day nursery for the children of local laborers, Family ACCESS has become an integral part of the community and a safety net for thousands of families each year. In our first 100 years the agency has taken an active role in developing and promoting innovative community support services. Today, our mission is to strengthen families and the community in Newton, Waltham, and surrounding areas by providing programs that support child development, empower parents to work, promote effective parenting, and encourage volunteerism. The agency actively seeks a racially, economically, and culturally diverse population. We also specialize in services which support families — including early literacy services, parenting support, mental health consultation, and volunteer opportunities.
