The Newport Bay Club & Hotel

This hotel is close to everything. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Our room is comfortable and more importantly… clean! Will stay again.

I wish I could give zero stars based on customer service alone — Rude and nasty from start to finish. I think there are maybe 3 people that work here, tops. Cleaning staff is not on hand, maintenance is not on hand. Call the front desk (from your wayyyyyy overpriced room) and you will get an answering machine 9 out of 10 times. Honestly, I have never paid so much money to just sleep in a bed. This hotel has NO amenities not even wifi. Don’t be expect much with the continental breakfast either because its just some apples and coffee. When the Newport Bay Club and Hotel says continental breakfast they mean business. Oh, and you have to pay for EVERY LITTLE THING. EVERYTHING!
NOTHING IS INCLUDED I cannot stress this enough. Need a cot? Don’t need a cot? Well surprise — you are getting one anyway — just because they think you’ll need it. Be prepared to shell out extra cash for it too… per night… which they won’t inform you of a head of time.

This place is absolutely adorable and ideally located for a getaway to Newport.
I mostly chose this place based on location, but if I was going back for a longer stay, I would certainly pick it again. I knew it was suites, but I was still a bit stunned to encounter a very well-​stocked kitchen with toaster, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and mini fridge as well as glass and dishware. This is certainly a place you could stay for a while and do some cooking to keep the cost of food lower (restaurants in Newport are ridiculous). The price was cheaper than the hotel we stayed at in Providence, and it included a lot more amenities including free wi-​fi and breakfast.
We had a pull-​out couch and a queen sized bed in a separate bedroom area. The bed was comfy, and the pullout couch was as expected (good, but still a pull out).
My only real complaint, and I don’t even know if I can really pin this on the hotel is that our second night there, there was something going on in the alleyway right next to our room. I was awakened to the sound of the truck backing up beeping sound, loud talking and a lot of what sounded like garbage trucks picking up. The problem was that this all started at 5:30am and lasted until 7am. Then they vanished. I kept thinking it was just garbage pickup, and would last ten minutes at most, but it was a full hour and a half. I’ve never lived in or visited a city where they allow that kind of noise that early in the morning, but it certainly put a damper on my day. We were in room 202, and I could hear EVERYTHING as if we were right next to them. I don’t know if the noise had something to do with the fact that they were paving their parking lot; if it’s just a Wednesday morning thing, or what, but if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room on the other side of the hallway or a higher floor.
Parking here is free for one car, which is fantastic, and the customer service was decent, if not spectacular. We asked for an extra blanket late at night, and since there was only one person on duty, she had to lock up the building before bringing it up to us, but that wasn’t a major issue. The morning breakfast is spare (no hot food), but filling. We took a couple yogurts for later, and stashed them in our room fridge!
Despite the morning noise, I would absolutely stay here again. We pretty much ditched the car and walked everywhere, which is the best way to see Newport.

I visit Newport every summer with my friends and considered the Bay Club my favorite hotel. I wanted to get my parents a gift certificate for Christmas. I called yesterday (12÷04÷14) when I left work at 6pm. The woman who answered told me she was the only one working and I’d need to call back tomorrow between 8 am and 4pm. I told her that I worked at that time and could not make phone calls. She said that she had another call coming in and it was very obvious she was blowing me off. I told her that I would have to choose anther hotel simply because no one can help me buy a gift card other than between 8 – 4. With that comment she hung up the phone on me. I just needed some assistance or other options. I was not rude to her at all. I was just looking for some help. I emailed their contact information found on their website. I was responded to by Josh who apologized for the incident but seemed to not care at all and told me he could email me the form for a gift certificate «if I was still interested.» Clearly they dont care about customer loyalty or customer service. They lost my business and I’ll be sure to pass the word along to not waste your time or money.

I stayed here as part of my exchange through Interval International. I was excited about the location of the place because it is in the center of EVERYTHING — shops, restaurants, etc. Excellent Location.
Downfall which I wish someone had told me ahead of time: only 1 car per room, regardless if you have 4 + adults. There are two options for you if you have an additional car: 1) park the car in the privately owned lot behind hotel (per day rate) 2) Park the car down the street in the Newport Visitor Center next to the Marriot (per overnight rate of $ 25.00). If you try to park on the street, you will be wasting your vacation time trying to move the car consistently since Newport has very strict rules on parking in the street. You will get towed and ticketed.
There is a restaurant/​bar in the basement setting of the hotel, but I cannot provide any insight to it.
I stayed in the 2-​story 2 bedroom townhouse. The carpets are old, the furniture old, however the kitchen is fully upgrade and the bathrooms which are nice. The bed comforters are alright, but again need an upgrade.
The walls are paper-​thin. I mean, THIN! You can carry on a thorough conversation with the people ABOVE, outside your door, and to the SIDE. If you bring kids, this resort is NOT for you. People will be annoyed with the noise very quickly.
There are no washing facilities in the room, however there is 1 washer and 1 dryer (mini sizes) on the top level for the entire hotel. Not convenient. I did bring quarters and detergent but I opted to wait unti l got home because the machines were old.
There is one elevator in the building, but never had a problem waiting for it.
Very few handicap spots available.
One big downfall is there is NO TV in the bedroom. It’s the 21^st century, and this was the first hotel that I have ever stayed in with no tv in the bedrooms! I am not on vacation to watch TV, yes, but I do enjoy laying down to relax at night with something to watch on tv.
There is 1 tv in the «living room» which comfortably sits 4 adults (2 chairs and 1 couch). The chair cushions were SO uncomfortable.
Overall, the hotel ranks as a 3 for me but a 5 for location. You can walk to anything in Newport from this hotel.

From the second we arrived the women at the front desk was rude and not helpful at all. There seems to be only two people working in the whole hotel. Our cleaning lady was wearing a doo-​rag and decided to not clean our rooms even though the service sign was placed. We called the front desk to have them empty our trash and she said she couldn’t because she was the only one working then later came up and gave us 2 trash bags. The «security guard» was in street clothes and was selling cigarettes from a zip lock bag at 2am in the lobby. We stayed on the fourth floor and it had poured the whole night and we had water leaking from the roof into our spiral staircase in the suite we were staying in. We called the front desk to complain and the woman rudely said «do you want a towel?» We spent A LOT of money on this suite so to have a leaky roof was ridiculous. A worker came up an hour later and gave us a large paint bucket to put on our stairs. I would not recommend this place because they are rude and do not care about their guests or their well being. Stay at your own risk!

We stayed here from October 18^th through October 25^th, on a timeshare exchange.
The location was excellent! We stayed on the third floor in Room 300. Yes, there is some street noise, but that is to be expected. (I would not stay in a room on the second floor, due to the night club and restaurant directly below).
We were able to walk to most restaurants and the mansion tours were a short drive away.
We would stay here again.

I can’t say enough about this hotel. Some friends and I came to Newport (our hometown) on a whim to get out of Boston for a night. Rather than staying with friends or family we decided on a last minute hotel room. I booked through Expedia and we were beyond satisfied. The one bedroom suite was incredibly spacious, check-​in was a breeze, and the four of us had a great time. We checked out Friday morning with intentions of heading back to the city. Shortly there after we became aware of Boston’s «lockdown «situation as the marathon bombers were on the loose and the manhunt was in full effect. We were unable to drive back into the city. We called Newport Bay Club & Hotel to book another nights stay. Due to the circumstances, Neeley (the front desk concierge) gave us a complimentary two bedroom suite! We were absolutely blown away. We cannot thank Neeley and all of the hotel’s staff enough. As locals we have already made a point to tell everyone we know about this incredible act of kindness. The facilities, location, and staff at Newport Bay Club & Hotel are top notch and this will be an experience the four of us will never forget. A sincere thank you!!!

So, we probably come to hang out in Newport more than is good for us (our livers, and our wallets agree). This place is excellent, especially for the price. From what I can tell, many of the people staying here are timeshare folks, but we ended up with a deal ($ 199 for a weekend night on short notice — Sweet!)
First off, the location absolutely can’t be beat — right on the corner of Thames St — easy stumbling distance from all the shopping, bars, and restaurants you could ever want. The rooms are clean, have nice/​small granite/​stainless kitchenettes, and pull out couches. There is even a dining table. The bathroom was huge and clean, with a great big shower. We were particularly impressed how much nicer the bathrooms were than at any of the other hotels we have recently stayed at (The Harborside, The Viking). Even the bed was comfy — I slept very well, which is unusual for me when I am not at home. Perhaps the all the alcohol I consumed contributed to that deep sleep, but that’s a discussion for another day.
The staff was friendly, the parking easily accessible, and the room was quiet — you couldn’t even hear the huge crowds outside. I would stay here again without question.

Whenever we stay in Newport– this is our first choice!
This is a timeshare property right on the corner of America’s Cup Ave and lower Thames Street= right in the middle of where you want to be!
They offer both one and two bedroom suites and townhouses– all that include a kitchenette and small living room. And did I mention jacuzzi? The rooms are spacious and comfy– and the service is always great!
I love the Bay Club!
