Great Beer Selection! Great Food!(Especially the Gouda Cheese Fries!). Fun environment! Deciding between a 4Star and 5Star review is tricky because the size of the Bar is small and I can imagine long waits and being bumped a lot when it is crowded; However I have only been there for late lunches and have never had to wait for a table. The wait staff/bartenders(during the late lunch hour) are awesome! They are always happy and treat everyone so well. I meet my wife there for late lunches and bring my little one with us(currently 9 months). I would NEVER think to bring her as the evening progresses but I could not feel more comfortable bringing her in with me for lunch! They are not really suited for little ones(ie. high chairs, etc.) however she is small enough for me to hold in my lap and eat. I am not recommending that you bring your small child here. It is a bar setting and not exactly child friendly but I mentioned it because(during the lunch/late lunch hours) I am perfectly comfortable bringing her and the staff love chatting with her!

If I was a local, or spending a longer amount of time in Newport, or even just not 5 months pregnant, I would be here ALLTHETIME. The bar feels divey but hip at the same time; it is very popular and was packed on our visit. The bartender was friendly and offered up samples to my husband of draft beers without any need to request them. The food menu was unique and the Thai nachos caught my eye if I didn’t have the worst reflux at the current time. We opted for the Gouda cheese fries and southwest egg rolls. Both came out fast, piping hot and were tasty. A band was setting up right behind us as we were leaving and though we were planning on leaving anyway, I suspect we would have wanted to relocate. All in all, definitely a place to be in Newport on any night if you are looking for a chill vibe, innovative snacks and a solid craft beer selection.

Happened into Pour Judgement on a cold February night. Immediately greeted and offered a drink while waiting to be seated. (The place was packed). This place is cozy, warm and has great pub food. I had Hot pastrami on rye with the house famous fries. Delicious. Nice staff — good food — a good stop — give it a try ! ps– good beer selection

I guess I’m the minority here, maybe I got them on an off day. The wings we ordered were ok, but the plates we were given were clearly dirty and had old food stuck to them. My chicken wrap had rotten lettuce and my husbands burger came out in correctly. It was cooked well, when he asked for medium and it was missing the bacon he ordered but for some reason we were charged for the bacon. Our waitress was inattentive and appeared as though she didn’t want to be there. If I could I give them 0 stars, I would. Do yourself a favor and go to Brick Alley

We stopped by after visiting some of the mansions in Newport. It was pretty crowded(Saturday night), but the 6 of us were squeezed onto a 4 person high top. It was pretty cramped, but I didn’t mind too much(some of my family did). When I walked it, I was really excited that Farmstead was on tap, then I read the current menu, and it was gone. I ordered the bean burger and a Two Face IPA, both of which were really good — the special was great! My family also enjoyed their dishes. All in all, a solid place for dinner.

I think I actually made the best judgement call by coming to Pour Judgement on a Friday night, even though we had to wait for a table. Here’s the down and dirty. Huge beer selection! So, while you wait for a table, have a beer. Seriously. Excellent burger! On par with a burger from Mission, which was pleasantly surprising. Show stealer: Gouda cheese fries. Don’t even think about not getting these. I ended up getting the gouda cheese sauce on the side with my fries that came with my Pour Judgement Burger. Out of this world! Loved the waitstaff, which happened to be really attentive with our table, especially my not so bad looking buddy who was with us. Married eye candy. Great to have around when you want some great service! Great place to go when you are from out of town and looking for a place to watch some sports, people watch, drink beer and even have good food at a great price. What else do you need?

Don’t get me wrong the beer was great. However, the service was terrible. We had a very rude waitress asking me why I was nursing my beer and I explained to her that I was driving home. Then she proceeded to tell me that I should drink fast because I can always take an über home. Followed up by no one serving us for another 45 minutes. Very unprofessional. Does not make me want to come back.

I was so excited to check out PJ after hearing so many rave reviews but I have to say it was just meh. Maybe I need to give it another shot, but the guacamole appetizer was pretty gross and had obviously been sitting out as it was already browned over. Our table had 5 items and the food just didn’t impress anyone. I’m a mac and cheese, French fries, and beer kind of gal, so it’s not hard to keep me happy. I was really bummed. The server also seemed annoyed with us but it was a Tuesday at 6pm so it’s not like we were overstaying our welcome. I don’t know — it was just an overall underwhelming experience. One the plus side it seems like they have a great menu both food and drink wise. I’ll probably try again because I’ve heard such great things — fingers crossed for a fresher, more friendly experience!

If you’re from out of town and you’re looking for a bar that’ll make you feel at home, this is the one. Lots of really really great beers on tap. Bartenders are friendly and on point. TVs had the Bruins and Red Sox games on every night. Wish I got to try the food.

Good place for Bloody Mary’s pay the extra 3.50 for the bacon wrapped scallops in your bloody. The girls are attentive but, the guy needs to remember he is in the service industry. D**k.

Great place for a burget and a beer. The southest eggrolls are very tasty as is the black bean burger. They have a great selection of beers including some great local brews. Service has always been good and the crowd is a good mix of locals and newport newbies.

Price was good. Fries were amazing. Interesting atmosphere. Great place if you like microbrews. Huge selection. Burger was good as was the ahi tuna salad. I recommend getting the dressing on the side. Would definitely return

If it wasn’t for the fries, this would be a 5, hands down. The service was great, the bean burger was one of the best I’ve had, and the beer selection is ample. It was bumpin’ on a Saturday evening in October, but the hostess sat us as soon as she could. The best part about our meal was the small discount that you get for getting a beer with your burger. It basically offsets the tax and a bit of the tip. $ 24 total for 2 burgers and two beers is alright by me! I’m glad this place is going strong, I remember getting the burger/beer combo when I worked in Newport a decade ago!

I’ve only been for beer and appetizers, but YUM! The beer list is quite impressive! Good selection of craft beers on tap and a long list of more expensive bottled specialty beer, ciders and all the normal stuff too. I was just there again last week and in a world obsessed with sweet pumpkin beer rimmed with caramel, sugar and all sorts of sweet stuff it was to see the only pumpkin beer they offered(at least that night) were 2 select imperial pumpkin stouts in 6oz glasses and was rimmed very lightly with mostly cinnamon, almost not sugar. The clearly take their beer very seriously. Enough about the beer… let talk about food. Two words: GOUDAFRIES I’ve been to PJ’s now twice and both times got the gouda fries. It’s a heaping pile of house made fries perfectly salted with a big bowl of golden melted cheesy heaven. It’s mild and smooth…(sorry…I just love cheese). We also tried the General Tso’s wings, and nachos and a friend got Southwest eggrolls, all of which were good. The only downside to the place, and the reason it doesn’t have 5 stars is it is just too small and both times we’ve been there we’ve felt pressured by the staff to move from the table we were sitting at even though we were still enjoying our beer and ended up leaving instead of ordering another round because they wanted the table free and there was no room at the bar. I understand there are limited tables and there isn’t really a better solution, but it’s kind of off putting to be asked to move if we are no longer eating. Guess the place is just too good!

We travel quite often and rely a lot on Unilocal when in a new city. I’m so glad we came here, the atmosphere was perfect-amazing wait staff-most importantly the food was fresh and tasty. We ordered the chicken egg rolls, Fries & Gouda, steak tacos, Pour Judgement burger. Homemade and fresh– stop in if you’re in the area you can’t go wrong!

Wow! A great dining /drinking experience with one minor exception. We went to Newport on cinco de mayo to try and eat at Diego’s– bad idea. Needless to say, they had a two hour wait. We went to Pour Judgement(for the second time but first time really eating there). The specials menu was amazing. I had smoked pork ribs with loaded potato salad and a broccoli slaw. The portion was huge and it was beyond reasonably priced. The man friend had the short rib sandwich and we split the Thai shrimp nachos– all amazing. The beer list was awesome(per usual) and the service was out of this world great! Ask for Alex– she’s awesome! My only complaint– there were two corona girls there and they were tacky /obnoxious. We told them we weren’t interested in drinking shitty beer multiple times and they wouldn’t leave us alone while we were trying to enjoy our dinner. Pour Judgement should definitely go with the Gansett Girls next time– way classier!

We came to Newport to do a little sight seeing and to drink beer of course. This was marked off as one of the stops we definitely wanted to make along the way. We came here in the early afternoon and I gotta say, I was surprised by how many people were, when I say people I mean people in there Late 40s early 50s, that were hammered already. Hilarious nonetheless. This is definitely a local bar. Most of the people in there were being addressed by first name. When you walk in there is no waitress or waiter or anyone so we snagged a table off to the side and figured we would see if someone comes to us or we needed to go to the bar. One of the bar tenders did eventually stop over. The bar itself has a divey feel to it, which I like. The music in the background is great and helps with the ambience of the place. The Beer: They have a pretty solid taplist. When I was there they had Bourbon County on tap along with Allagash’s Curieux. Both high octain, delicious beers. They have a pretty good bottle list as well, but be warned, the markup on the bottles is astoundingly high. Stick to the draught list, it is very good. The Food: Surprisingly this place had a great list of snacks and entrees to jam on while partaking in quality beer consumption. We went with the guac, the shrimp nachos and the portuguese steamed littlenecks. Oh man, the clams were awesome. The nachos were good as well but there were only 5 shrimp in the whole dish. Maybe if they dice them the shrimp would be more evenly distributed within the dish. The guac was good too. Those clams were definitely the star. Service: The service to start was pretty slow, but a little later in the afternoon when the place was starting to get busy, it looks like more waiters and waitresses showed up to help support the crowds. That was great. Overall this was a cool place to hang out for the afternoon and get a good beer and a good snack. Definitely recommend stopping in here if you are in Newport.

Holy cow!!! FANTASTIC burgers in Newport! This place was recommended by our class officer for one of our liberty weekends, so a group of guys and I headed over here for dinner on a Friday night. We were very glad we did! We all had burgers, two had black bean and two beef. I had a beef with all the fixin’s and ordered the smoked gouda fries. The burgery was perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful! The bun was delicious and the toppings came together to make one of the best burgers I’ve had! The fries are another story — they were simply… AMAZING! I am not usually a cheese fan but wow was this smoked gouda something to be commended. I HIGHLY recommend the gouda fries! My partners in dine were very satisfied with their entrees as well, especially the black bean duo. The place is a bar, hence the name pour judgement, but it was a «dry» weekend for us so we could not sample anything from the tap. The water was just fine. :) The service was great — we were in uniform and were very respected and had a great waitress! She explained the menu well, as much as burgers need to be explained, and was quick with getting our orders in and bringing the food out. I would make sure to stop here again if we come back to Newport, which I would be surprised if we didn’t. RECOMMEND!
