Some friends and I got a hankering for cheap Chinese food and decided to check this place out. This place reminded me why I stopped eating greasy cheap Chinese food after college. First, it’s pretty expensive for the buffet. The food was low quality, old, or dry. Even the go to Chinese dishes were just bad. Either salty, mushy or flavorless I didn’t eat much. If the price and quality weren’t bad enough, lets just say the food did not agree with me the next day. AVOID!

Do you like hamburgers soaking in water? Cheap American Food on a Chinese buffet purported to have over 300 items? Total lack of selection for an Asian buffet and even the seating arrangements were weird. They do have over 300 items, but this place was disgusting and we will never be back.

I cross the river and go to this place for Chinese. The food is hit or miss and the atmosphere is pretty sketchy. The price is great and there is a pretty big selection. If you are coming experience fine cuisine then this isn’t the place for you. If you want to shovel as much terrible food in you as you can for $ 7 then this place hits the spot.

My whole family likes this restaurant — I like the Sushi, my wife loves the Green Beans and the kids love the jello!

There was a time when this place wasn’t too bad. It was never great but it dished up respectable food for under $ 6 pp. In the last year or so though it has deteriorated badly, to the point where — following my last disappointing experience — I can’t see myself ever eating there again. The owners must be buying ever cheaper cuts of meat hoping that customers won’t notice the difference if they smother them in batter and greasy/sloppy sauces. The veggie selection — what little there is — all looks limp and tastes of nothing, and the rice(surely a Chinese restaurant should know how to cook rice?) was akin to wallpaper paste. If that wasn’t bad enough they still allow smoking at the back of the restaurant. The smell of that alone should be enough to turn many people away and force them to find a much better alternative.

Dreadful food. The staff is nice and attentive, but the food is the worst kind of shopping center Chinese. Avoid unless you have a cast iron tummy.

I love Chinese food, and I love the idea of smoking indoors.(But only because we can’t do it at home.)

Where’s the only buffet that is so unappetizing that even a pregnant woman won’t go back for seconds? That would be Hong Kong Grand Buffet. Situated in the Newport Shopping Center, this mediocre Chinese buffet offers up low quality Asian dishes like crab Rangoon(didn’t see anything that resembled crab meat), lo mein, beef with broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, and more. Each offering looked like it had been drying out in the hot bar for hours and none of the entrees were very well stocked. After my first horrible experience, I went back with a friend, who thought maybe our first meal there was just a one-off thing. Nope, that’s pretty much Hong Kong Grand Buffet’s standard – cheap, barely edible food with miserable atmosphere.
