Went their for breakfast. My husband had blueberry stuffed French toast. He said it was wonderful. Only one problem. Log Cabin syrup is not maple syrup by any stretch of the imagination. Maple syrup is more expensive. That’s okay charge me extra. It was also served with an awful dollop of margarine that did not melt. These details made a potentially great dish mediocre. I ordered lightly scrambled eggs, bacon, chorizo, Portuguese sweet bread, and home fries. Chorizo and bacon where excellent. Portuguese sweetbread was very good. My eggs were overcooked. The bread was good but would have been better grilled with butter rather than margarine. The home fries were the most disappointing part of the meal. Good quality potatoes, absolutely bland, not even a bit of salt. Oh by the way home fries are supposed to be crispy, hence the term fried. Overall the meal was slightly better than average. With all of the other places to choose from, why would I go back? It’s a shame a few things could have made the meal great.

Already had breakfast a few hours earlier when I was walking past Franklin Spa, but was a bit hungry. I opted for a blueberry muffin figuring that would be a safe bet. Well, it was $ 3.25 before tax & worst of all its‘ texture was tough and it was not very flavorful. The muffin was a a good size, so it did do the trick of filling the belly a bit. But the taste was certainly not satisfying. A quick look around, showed a mix of locals and tourists filling the seats at Franklin Spa and plates of breakfast entrees that looked nice. But, it is also a place that has not been well maintained over the years & it is a little too worn looking at this point. There is a lot of potential for them to achieve greater success if they dial in some basic bakery recipes and spruce up their furniture, décor and overall cleanliness a bit.

While the building itself may not look like much, the food was out of this world and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Definitely a must for visitors who want a great breakfast without overpaying or getting sucked into a tourist nightmare.

So I walked into Franklin spa knowing there was not going to be a wait like most breakfast places in town on a Sunday morning. I should’ve known then that this shouldn’t be the place to go. The highlight of my meal were the home fries which frankly were average at best. So With my breakfast homefries I ordered the corned beef hash eggs Benedict and was excited for my breakfast. As I was waiting for my meal I «enjoyed» a terribly burnt cup of iced coffee and then got up to use the restroom. That’s when I knew my meal was going to SUCK. In front of the bathroom door were three large corned beef hash cans and I instantly was turned off at my order. I came back from the bathroom and my meal was waiting, it did however look appealing but after the first mushy bite of caned corned beef hash I had eaten enough. I proceeded to eat the limp English muffin and avoid the hash all together. I will say the hollandaise was decent but could use a tad more flavor in my opinion. Maybe the place does some things well but for sure its not their iced coffee, pancakes or corned beef hash benny. After trying it three times now I will not be back. Also they don’t take cards, like update a little guys take a credit card it’s 2016… GOSOMEWHEREELSE.

This is an old school local joint for breakfast. Crows nest. Portuguese fisherman breakfast. Giant plates to kill a hangover and get you ready for another day of stumbling around newport.

This place was disgustimg. I was looking for a place to get eggs benedict and saw franklins. First the service was really slow. then there was a line cook who had on baggy dirty disgusting clothes. at first I thought he was a dishwasher but then he started making out food with no gloves on. that grossed me out. Then the food came out and it was bland and not appealing at all… I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone

We were pleasantly surprised to find this local diner this morning while visiting Newport. Breakfast was delicious(we ordered just traditional bacon, eggs and home fries). Coffee was great, service was fast and friendly. We will be back tomorrow!

This place is a hidden gem! You would never know from looking at it how great it is. Service was speedy and our mugs were always full. My fiancé and I ordered the blueberry stuffed French toast and the pecan French toast. Highly recommend both! Will most likely be going back for breakfast tomorrow :)

Terrible food made with cheap ingredients and even worse service. I got the Mexican omelette(eventually) which was boring and bland. There was no one else in the restaurant but still took 10 minutes to get a hello and a cup of coffee. I highly DONOT recommend this establishment.

Diner style breakfast restaurant. Service was friendly and fast. Ordered the lobster, spinach omelet w/brie along w/what I thought was sausage biscuits w/gravy. They actually serve sausage patties w/a gravy so if you’re used to having ground meat already mixed into the gravy, that’s not what you’ll get here. Overall, the breakfast was tasty & our server was very friendly.

This is the worst breakfast I have ever had. .Dont let the li e fool you… STAYAWAY.. I have lived In newport for 4 years and the line is always arond the corner. After eating there I don’t know why The waitresses are completely stupid the food is unedible and they charge 7 bucks for a small crappy shake… Go to bengermans down the street it is 2 bucks more and great.

Delicious breakfast in an «Main street Any town USA» kind of homey setting. French toast was awesome. Veggie eggs Benedict was fantastic. Definitely will be our go to breakfast place going forward.

When you see this place, you think it’s a run down coffee shop. Tbh you are right. Its off the beaten path so the tourists aren’t mobbing it. the locals are. Why? Because of the fast friendly service and also the reasonable prices for some of the most delicious breakfast. Try the maple stuffed French toast. It’s Portuguese sweet bread studded with nuts and cream cheese filling. We also loved the red white and blue pancakes with fresh fruit. If you care more about food than fluffy décor, this place shouldn’t be missed.

This was the most amazing breakfast with the best service in town. I ordered the ultimate lobster omelette with egg whites — and they very thoughtfully put the hollandaise sauce that normally comes on the omelette, on the side for me without me even asking. My mom ordered the smoked salmon benedict and it was equally fresh, delicious and filling. I highly recommend Franklin Spa for breakfast. If we were in Newport longer we would definitely make a trip back here. More than once!

Just a lovely blend of fresh, diner style breakfast. Bottomless coffee, stuffed to bursting omelettes and fresh fruit granola yogurt bowls. We brought our toddler and was impressed they offered one egg omelettes filled with whatever you want for kids!

Great breakfast!!! Lots of options, great service and great prices! This place isn’t the prettiest place in Newport, but their breakfast is my favorite so far! Lots of great breakfast specials and tons to choose from! I came here this past weekend with special friends and we had a blast. We brought our dog and had to tie him up outside the door close to our table by the window. The waitresses gave him treats, water and everyone was petting him. He was just as happy as us! Our waitress was sweet in fact all of them were! I ordered the fresh squeezed orange juice and it was delicious… I got the eggs benedict with a side of banana topped pancakes… omg were they good! Our whole table pigged out and all of us loved what we ordered… blueberry stuffed french toast was awesome… home fries were awesome! They even offer special omelets and lobster rolls! I can’t wait to come back here and try different menu items… even lunch maybe!!! Highly recommended over other breakfast places.

Franklin Spa is a great all around diner that serves lobster roll! No sandwiches served on Sunday’s during brunch hours, so I hope you like eggs! Lobster roll was great and super meaty & will be served during brunch. No booze, so if you’re looking for your Sunday mimosa cure, go elsewhere.

We’re international travelers and this place is simply amazing. Every year I go here with my daughter this is always our first choice every day for breakfast. They have amazing omelettes and great coffee. Occasionally they’ll give you a free small shake/frappé if someone else orders one. Unfortunately, they do not except credit cards, so have cash handy! I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great breakfast place!

We found this place by accident. It’s off the main roads, but by only a couple of blocks. We were staying at a friends place which is right around the corner. I had teh Crow’s nest(poached eggs and corned beef hash on english muffins). Others had the blueberry french toast and lobster omelet. The french toast was very good. The omelet only ok. The atmosphere is quaint and service friendly. Simple goodness that gives a good start to the day when you will have more decadence along the waterfront.
