Kyung Sung Restaurant

I love this restaurant! The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly! The only reason I took off a star was when we went in for Mother’s Day, we took our son and he needed to be changed. The bathrooms are tiny!!! It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it is hard to change your child in there.

I love this place! I have been going here since I was a little girl. I always leave full and happy.

Another outstanding dinner at Kyung Sung on Warwick Blvd. The food is excellent, prices fair and the service is great. For those of you that like Korean food, this is the best place to eat.

I have been here a few times. Banchan (side dishes like kimchi) was okay. Tasty, but high prices and small serving size.

The staff take pride in what they’re serving and genuinely want you to have a great experience. Service was prompt and our waitress was excited to assist in our choices. Kyung Sung is near the top of our list of restaurants on the peninsula and I’m sure it won’t be long before we make it back. Thanks Kyung Sung!

I love the food! We have been going to this place for years. The service is not the best, but the food outweighs the service.

I am korean-​american! Coming from Langley afb, i hail all the way from NJ. This place has the best kimchi and banchan I’ve had so far near the Hampton area. I asked the owner if the jjajangmyun was good and she said she wasn’t sure if I’d like it because they don’t use MSG so I said I’d love to try it. The noodles were chewy and just right, the sauce was fresh. The beef tangsooyook was crispy and the sauce was garlicky but not overpowering. (Tip: make an extra dipping sauce for tangsooyook by mixing soy sauce and vinegar in a separate saucer) I asked for more kimchi to go and she was more than happy to add it to my to-​go box. –again a bit pricey but i was able to pack it to go and made three extra meal portions out of the leftovers! They play elevator jazz in the background. a lot of folks seemed to be on dates or with their families, nice atmosphere.

Both my wife and I are big fans of this place. It is our favorite Korean restaurant in area, by far.

I have come here for years. They are always so friendly and I feel right at home. Though the dishes are a bit pricey, you get a decent amount of food. I am never disappointed when I eat here. Everything from the bulgogi, fried rice and mandu is delicious! The kimchi side dishes are a bonus too. This will always be one of my favorite restaurants.

Let me start out with the bad, the interior décor was horrible and the establishment smelled a little weird, not atmospheric at all. With that being said, the food more than made up for the poor décor. We ordered a side of Yaki-​Mandu and two Dolsot Bibimbap, which arrived quickly. Food portions were outstanding and tasted great. Definitely would recommend and will be returning soon.

I was so excited to find a korean restaurant in the middle of the Newport News area, but I think I set my expectations too high. Overall, the dishes cost more than they were worth. Plus, the service was on the slower side. .
Try to avoid the bolgogi here – it’s too sweet, like general tsos or something. The chicken bolgogi my friend got was cooked like a steak… if there’s one thing I know for sure it’s that you shouldn’t have to use steak knives to eat any kind of Korean food. ever.

My family just left from Williamsburg to head home to Suffolk. We were looking for something different from all the usual eats. I remember my coworker telling me about a small Korean dive in Newport News. So we tried it out and couldn’t figure what to get. The waitress was very helpful and very attentive to us even though the place start getting busy. We tried three main dish bulgogi with rice and lettuce wrap, Udong, and dish # 49 which was a seafood stew with some spicy! And also order one appetizer seafood pancakes that it was so good that saved the three pieces and decided WTH lets order one more and take it all home with my daughter asking for more the sauces which our waitress is willing to get some for her. And the last thing I wanted to order to take home was the black bean with pork noodles. But decided to get it next time we go back for sure because the waitress recommended to eat soon so that the noodle won’t taste as fresh and eat later as my dinner. Anyways thank you again for the food and we will see you definitely!!!

This was my first time going here and I had a wonderful experience. First time trying bulgogi too! There kimchi side dishes were awesome and the service was great. I’m not really hard to please or picky but I can definitely tell when a waitress is attentive and polite and they all were.

Enjoyed a Saturday Lunch, just know there is no lunch menu on weekends. We enjoyed hot Spicy Beef with vegetables and beef and broccoli teriyaki. The waitress was courteous and available. The food was delicious and authentic. A must try if you like Korean food.

I was not impressed with this place at all. The food was average, so that’s not the issue. I did not like how my friend was treated at all by the waitress. Even though my friend spoke Korean to her, she didn’t speak it in return with the exception of correcting her on something. In my opinion that is not what you do to customers.
Also she tried to overcharge her after telling her the correct prices MOMENTS before. That was not a simple «oopsie».
Not professional.
Will not go here again.

I don’t know why I even try to have Korean food on this side of the HRBT. I get that a large majority of Korean people in Hampton Roads lives here but I just don’t understand why the restaurants here are sub par compared to the few that are in the Norfolk/​VB area.
I had an awful experience here. I went with a friend after Korean school on Saturday. This is not the first time I have experienced a sort of racism from Korean people. I’m half Korean but don’t look anything like it. I attempted to speak Korean to the waitress but she refused to acknowledge me as a Korean speaker and instead spoke to me in English.
I ordered jjajjang myun (Chinese Korean black bean noodles) and it was ok. It was a decent dish but it was a little difficult for me to get through it because of how I felt I was being treated.
The restaurant was mostly filled with non Koreans. until one family showed up. They got different banchan (those awesome korean side dishes that come with the meal) than everyone else in the restaurant. I was definitely jelly because they’re selection definitely looked better than the standard kimchi’s that we got.
We walked up to the register to get rang up. She made a mistake and switched our orders. it was only the difference of $ 1 and it wasn’t the money so much as it was how I felt we were being treated. I find that speaking Korean (if you don’t look it) can be pretty awesome sometimes when people don’t expect it and respect your efforts enough to respond in Korean. Its the people who don’t even try because «why should I bother when you obviously don’t know anything» attitude that I have an issue with.
If anything. the one thing I can do is order food in Korean. I’m fairly proficient in food ordering. Its the rest of the language that I tend to fudge up. (sorry Mom)

The food was great don’t get me wrong, but my goodness! I called bc I always look online first and the price for the mundo was $ 6.50 for 12 then I called in and the lady said no it was $ 7.95 for 10 and she said the stuff online was old. I said so you raised the price and lowered the amount of food you give? She said yes. I asked her what was the price of the menu. she said she didn’t know. ugghhh, I asked her to look at her menu long story short with the spicy pork and this my meal was like $ 20.00 and some change. so I was upset. But yeah. yeah I paid for it but this won’t be a regular thing you could go broke eating there $ 20.00 a pop what if someone went there everyday for lunch? That’s over $ 100.00 a week. that’s sad. But the food is good.

I love this place. I’m from Newport news but live in the DC area and make a point to eat here EVERY time I come to visit my family. I am addicted to their fried mandu and Kyung Sung sauce. The pork bulgogi is so delicious! If you can make it for lunch its a great deal because its the same meal with fried rice (I get white rice with dinner) but almost 4 dollars cheaper. But it’s so good even if I can’t make the lunch I still go for the dinner prices! It’s not much to look at on the outside and the décor is bland, but they make up for it with the delicious food! Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed, I just wish there were Korean food restaurants this good in the DMV (DC MD NoVa) area!
