Always like coming here to pick up Korean pastries. We always seem to spend over $ 20 but it’s worth it. Not the best part of town and I will never come here after dark.

I love this place sooooo much!!! We get all of our birthday cakes from here in adorable little animal shapes. The baked goods are wonderful as well. There isn’t necessarily a place to sit and hang out(like the Korean Bakeries in DC and Baltimore that I have been to) but that doesn’t take away from how good the actual products are. Their coffee cookies and the red bean breads are my favorites. My husband likes the pizza bread and the breads filled with custard. Go try anything! Made fresh daily and the family that works there has always been wonderful at explaining any new ones that come in that we are unfamiliar with.

Made my usual monthly stop this past weekend and noticed even more varieties of Korean baked goods. They need to expand their drinks selection and make a larger café area so folks can eat and drink there. It’s really a hidden gem.

This bakery reminds me of the bakeries I went to in Korea. Korean bakeries are different from European and American ones. The breads usually have sweet fillings in them. I ate a lot of them while I lived in Korea. The woman working there is nice, too.(I think it helps that I was living in the same town she’s from.)

We visited this place recently because we heard good things about it. As it was a weekday evening, many of the items were sold out. Still, we were able to get 2 buns and a small bag of chocolate chip cookies. Their quality was consistent with the Chinese /Korean bakeries that we are used to in NYC/Boston but since this seems to be the only shop of its kind in the area, this would be the place to go if we were in this region again.

The first people who owned this place, an older man and lady were so nice!!! But there’s a middle age woman who works there now and she is very rude. I don’t come here anymore because of that rude woman

Every time I go to Newport News, I have to stop by this shop! My favorite is Shoku-pan, curry bread and chocolate roll. The worker are always nice and helpful. I called ahead to pre-order for big purchases and they’re ready on time. I can’t wait to visit next time! I wish they have brunch or something in VB!

This place reminds me of the bakeries in Korea… A small bakery with light and fluffy desserts! The service is great and they are always so friendly. Everything is baked fresh daily, and they taste heavenly. What’s awesome about a Korean Bakery? I can eat a whole cake and not feel weighed down! Everything there is delicious, so I can’t even pick a favorite.

I tried this bakery on a whim one day when I was coming back home from work. It happened to be our two year anniversary so i wanted to grab us a cake and some sweets. The cake displayed in their cooker didn’t seem very impressive but I still ordered one. The girl helping me took my cake to the back and said she would be right back. When she came out with the cake less than five minutes later, it had been transformed into something so beautiful and sweet looking. I thanked her and complimented her and was on my way home in a very good mood. That night we cut into the cake and I was delighted. This really isn’t your typical american cake with heavy icing and dense cake. It was light and fluffy and the icing was more of a whipped cream. So heavenly. That weekend, we worked on some of the sweets I bought there and they were all very tasty!

Since visiting my hubby in Seoul, Korea, I’ve been obsessed with the food and culture. I come here to get my fix of pastries. Not to mention there is an international mart next door! The owners are very nice as well!

I absolutely LOVE this bakery!!! I have to stop in every time I make a trip to E Mart. Their cream filled pastries melt in your mouth.(Totally my favorite) The bakery is run by a very friendly Asian couple, but you do need to get there early because they sometimes sell out of some of the more popular pastries. It’s a simple unasuming bakery but worth a stop inside.

Wow! This place is amazing! I had never heard of a Korean bakery before I read about it here on Unilocal. The reviews looked good, and I was in the area so I stopped in. Very clean, the owners are wonderfully helpful and friendly, and then the real reason I was there, the food. All kinds of sweet breads and cakes, lined up in nice little baskets. I felt like a kid in a candy shop! I’ll take one of these, and one of those, and some of these, and hey that looks great too! I walked out with a bag stuffed full of Mammoth Bread, and melon something or the other bread, stuff with red bean(I would have NEVER tried that if I had not seen the recommendations) white bean, almond, chocolate, and more. I’ve already gone through a good deal of my treasure, and every piece has been fantastic. Obviously I couldn’t buy one of everything in the store at one time, so I’ll certainly be back, if nothing else than for one of the beautiful cakes that I didn’t even get to! If you’ve never been to a Korean bakery, and wouldn’t really consider walking in to one, change your mind, and walk in this place. This white boy is hooked!

When I moved to this area from NoVA, I was sad to be leaving the delicious Korean bakeries in Annandale and Fairfax. Then lo and behold, BREADGARDEN. They bake everything on the premises, and the pastries are exactly as they would be made in Korea. If you’ve never eaten Korean pastries, they are sorta modeled after European pastries… lighter in texture and not what most Americans would consider decadent, but absolutely delicious. They also love to put different things in their pastries, like sweet potato, chestnuts, fluffy cream filling, sweet red beans, and green tea. Bread Garden does all those things, and also makes the adorably artsy cakes for which Korean bakeries are famous. Oh, and their dduk goodies(chewier in texture than Japanese mochi) are yummy. For me, «Korean bakery» means«ample seating, groups of friends chatting for hours, and coffee, tea, baked goods, and desserts galore.» Unfortunately, there is only one small café table and it’s clearly not meant to be a hangout kind of place. Oh well… hence, four stars instead of five.

Love this bakery, and SOSOSO happy to find traditional cakes they sell in Korea! I moved here to Virginia after being stationed in Korea and this bakery is very authentic. I almost cried tears of joy when I saw the cakes. I’ve missed those so much :)

I am from Richmond, but when we drive by Newport News, we always stop by this baker. It’s not a fancy bakery with a sit down type of atmosphere, but they sure do have good food. I would recommend the thin almond cookies and the red bean cake. Those are delicious. They also make really great cakes. We ordered the Thomas the Train(3-D) cake from them on Monday for a Friday and they were able to make it on time. The owners are great; they really go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. We love our Thomas the Train cake and best of all, the cake was delicious!!! Love love the icing on the cake!

I can’t properly review this place, since I haven’t actually gone to the store, but I get their items from J Mart in Virginia Beach. So freakin good. I usually travel up to New York to get my asian bakery fix, and well, I still do, since the drive to Newport News is too much. But I’m going here soon, before I explode. KOREANCHEESECAKE! GETIT! Favorite thing ever. I love it, it’s a cake. but then it’s too moist to be any regular ol cake, it’s like, a real, cheese. cake. Not the custard pies we associate with the term cheesecake. But a light cake, made of cheese. It’s subtly sweet, and has a nice tang. I love it. When I buy it at J Mart, I buy 6 slices and eat them all within an hour, though I try to save a slice for breakfast the next day. But lets be real, that’s impossible.
