This was awesome! Not the best view, because it’s in like… Wilson. So kind of lame sights, but it was so amazing. I don’t know what usually prices are for skydiving so, I thought it was expensive but I think that’s just how much it is. I was the first one to go in my group and Larry pulled me out of the class before it even was halfway over. He filled me in on the way, so it was cool. Lots of fun and nice to check off the bucket list! Be sure to have a ponytail if you have long hair! And don’t wear too many layers.

Can you say EPIC weekend!!! Best 4^th of July ever! Not only did I get to jump twice in the same day, but the second time was doing a demonstration and landed in front of a 1000 people waiting for fireworks!!! Here’s the best part… I woke up the next morning and the first thing I did was skydive again!!! Gahhhhh What an insane adrenaline rush!!! Three separate times in 2 days… I’d say that’s pretty damn awesome. Better than sex!!! I was asked to jump again onto the beach @ Mickey Rats for another demo in a couple weeks!!!

I’ve been reminiscing over my first tandem jump lately, even though it happened a couple of years ago.
When I entered UB as a freshman, I was excited to take advantage of the many clubs that UB had to offer. One of those clubs was UB Skydiving Club. The guy that ran it was a skydiver and ran through the whole process of what it takes to become a skydiver, to do a tandem, to fold the parachute… I was completely overwhelmed but also ready to take the jump.
I prepared all of my freshman year, through articles and videos and testimonies. fundraisers and talking to people that knew as much information as possible. It proved to be a tough year, but I managed to knock off about $ 100 off of the previously mentioned $ 250, not including the video that I included afterwards. By the time summer came around, I had my date booked at Frontier Skydivers.
The first date scheduled, I took the mini (and very sketchy, yes) how to skydive and DON’T SUE US course/​video that Alex mentioned. Then my mom and I waited all day for that sunset jump. We waited and waited and waited and watched people jump all day. Around seven pm, we received the very bad news that the plane had to be under repair for the rest of the week and I wouldn’t be able to go up this time around. I sighed dejectedly and trotted off with my mother, annoyed but relieved I got to live another week.
For the second date scheduled, we were again the sunset dive. Again, I failed to go up that day due to oncoming storms. Everyone thought I’d be able to get up that day, but I failed yet again. The whole crew and the whole staff patted my shoulder reassuringly and told me I’d be the first one up next time.
The third date scheduled, we unexpectedly had to put a pet to sleep so of course there was no skydiving for me that day.
The fourth date was perfect. Early August. Not too hot yet because it was about 8:30 in the morning when we arrived. Finally, finally I got suited up and went outside to start the filming process and go through some instructions with my instructor.
If you’re thinking the plane is some fancy jet, you’re absolutely wrong. It’s the smallest, dinkiest thing ever. And you’re trusting that it holds you up as you soar above the sky. But when you get to this point, it’s hardly about the makeup of the plane and more about taking the plunge. Don’t worry about the plane, as they will point out to you, there is no safe plane ;) On a more serious scale though, they cancelled one of the dates I was suppose to go up because of plane issues so feel confident in the fact they wouldn’t throw you on a potentially unsafe plane.
I waved goodbye to everyone and everything. Goodbye, Mom. Love you. Goodbye, Earth. I love you too. Goodbye goodbye…
I was whisked away on the plane, with my instructor trying to settle my nerves. I watched two girls jump out of the plane and I almost lost it. Turn back! Turn back!
But my instructor couldn’t hear the silent screams in my head so he just hooked us up together as I tried to breathe. We shimmied ourselves to the door and rocked back and forth until the count of three.
At three, I was flying. To this day, I have yet to replicate such an intense emotional experience.
The free fall was amazing and the parachute part was beautiful and spiritual. The sun was peaking in the clouds and you could see Lake Ontario in the distance. It was humid, so it was a tad foggy and I couldn’t see Niagara Falls. But if you happen to go on a settled day, you can see those things.
We landed okay. I was in shock when the cameraman came over to record my reaction. I still laugh every time I get to that part in the video. The staff, my friends from the club, and my mother were all thrilled to see that I had a fantastic experience. I was just wondering when I could do that again.
Even though I had to go out three times to try and fly, it was all for my own safety, which I couldn’t be more happy that they were trying to protect (because let’s face it, I would’ve tried to get into the sky regardless of a plane issue or bad weather.) Frontier Skydivers is a family; anyone who goes there can certainly see that. The love they have for each other and those that come there to spend the day watching people fall from the sky is great. You can’t find that experience anywhere else. I would fancy spending a day there just hanging out.
I went skydiving in 2012 and I still think about it all the time and remember how that high felt or what the landing felt like. If you’re nervous about going, it’s worth noting that in 2010, the only people that perished were experienced skydivers taking risks (such as jumping in less than stellar conditions or not opening the reserve when they needed to.) My skydiving partner had over 10,000 jumps under his belt and could maneuver us perfectly. I had no worries going up in the sky with him.
So after this long-​winded, passionate review, I definitely encourage you to give Frontier a try and see how you like it. Enjoy!

My husband bought me a gift certificate for a tandem jump I was really excited. He made arrangements for my jump by email and set up the date. We found out if you contact them you will always be in contact with the same person so there isn’t any miscommunication.
I was scheduled last week to attend the class and do the jump. When you arrive there are MANY forms to fill out. Don’t let that scare you it is well worth the jump! You will have to sign many times that you will not sue them.
The class is fairly brief. Mostly how to position yourself at different times. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate that day and a line of clouds positioned itself right over the drop zone. We hung out for a few hours until Frontier determined it wouldn’t be a good jump day .I was really disappointed but I was allowed to reschedule and was told I would be the first jump when I returned.
Yesterday was the day ! The weather was great and I was able to Jump. Before the jump the instructor will give you your jumpsuit and put a bunch of belts or harnesses on you.
The plane ride is loud and the plane is very small. The plane door is transparent so you can see out. The instructor was very good at telling you exactly what would happen. At nine thousand feet he starts to attach you to him. He will tell you when he does each connection that it is made.
Scariest thing for me was when the door opens and you are scooting towards it and sitting with your feet dangling over the edge. (I was very glad the instructor earlier said I might want to tighten my laces because it felt like my shoes could fly off !)
It was absolutely amazing! I would love to do it again! You don’t feel like you are falling its a different feeling and when the parachute opens you are floating… Try not to close your eyes when you jump. Lol
I opted for pictures rather than the video. The camera guy will jump out moments before you. I will be getting them in a few weeks.

This place graced my first skydive. and it was one I will never forget. I have fleeting memories of the whole experience, which I’ll do my best to recall below.
After booking my skydive, I talked to some guy on the phone who said to come on out for «training.» I drive about 40 minutes towards the country side and buy some farm fresh chicken eggs on the way from some locals. Might never get a chance to use them, but at least if I die they’ll find these in my car and eulogize me as a hero for shopping locally.
After I finally arrive to the airport, I notice this doesn’t look like any airport I’ve ever seen.
For one, it has a barn. In the midst of this large field, there’s a plane that looks like it has been unfortunately transplanted. It doesn’t look to be in particularly good shape. I wonder if that’s the plane I’ll be jumping from as I knock on the door.
A guy with missing teeth comes out and asks me if I’m the appointment for the skydive. He looked really rugged and was a bit old and I think I caught a glance of some beer cans inside «mission control.» I wanted to say no and drive away, but what would I tell all the people who I told I was going to do this. So I went through training, which consisted of one of the sketchiest videos I’ve ever seen in my life, to date.
It’s a video where a man named Bill Booth (he invented tandem skydiving) tells you that you might die doing this and if you do, you or your family can’t sue. Pretty serious stuff. However, it’s hard to take him seriously because he looks like Karl Marx. He has a beard that goes down to his feet. I’m sure he trips over it pretty regularly and I’m not quite sure how safe it would be to skydive with a beard like that, but whatever. I signed the releases and they set a date for me to come back later when the weather was good to skydive.
When I finally jumped, it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The anticipation of going up on the plane, unsure if you’ll actually come out of this alive was surreal. The plane was super small and I had to shimmy down to the exit door on my knees and the ‘ready-​to-​jump’ position involved getting my legs to dangle out from a moving plane. As I jumped, I felt as if I was flying for those 30 or so seconds that you free fall. It was incredible. I got a video of the experience and the video guy was just above me also falling. When the chute came out, well… it was pretty sudden and I wanted some reassurance from my tandem instructor that all was well. For the first minute or so, he said nothing to me. «is everything okay???» no answer… as I heard him doing something. I thought he was preparing for emergency maneuvers or something! Later, he told me he was just out of breath and couldn’t talk… he was a fair bit older than me.
The landing was great, the video was great… and the jump was great.
Although the place has the ambiance of a beat-​down, unsafe sketchy joint, the personnel and staff here are incredible and emphasize safety very well. Don’t be deceived.
It’s pricey — about $ 250 for a tandem jump, you can jump for cheaper at other places. However, the experience is worth it. You’ll get to see Niagara Falls and even Toronto in the distance. It’s beautiful. Go in the sunset if you can.
