This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Seattle area. Great for large groups, but you should definitely make a reservation because it is frequently busy. My favorite is their smoked duck.

Been eating here since ’97! One of very few authentic Chinese food around greater Seattle. Peter Yea runs a great shop.

good food as always, but the lady at the front desk services really bad, looking around, didn’t help settle bills or arrange the seats for new customers. She really did horrible service, and affect the business, some customers came and left because customers are crowded at the door while there are plenty of tables available.

re: Lunch on a Saturday First time here. Heard a lot of great thing things about this, so my wife and I decided to venture slightly off detour to check it out. This place is almost a ‘Woohoo! As good as it gets!’ and it’s better than ‘Yay! I’m a fan.’, so a 4.5 star is pretty accurate. This place is definitely more Taiwanese than Chinese. If you’re fortunate enough to read Chinese or Taiwainese or can speak either, they have a completely different menu to order from. We ordered our staple dishes, which were the General Tso, Vegetable Delight(they calll it here Buddhist Delight), and Salt and Pepper Calamari with Hot and Sour Soup. ALL dishes definitely tasted more Taiwanese style. For those reading this that don’t know the difference, it tastes healthier. To give specific examples, the Hot and Sour Soup is more watery than you typically might receive from a non-Taiwanese restaurant. This is because they use A LOT less starch. Our Calamari dish had actual pieces of squid, which were thinly cut which it’s able to cook more thorough through, versus a calamari dish you might have at some other Asian restaurant that typically servces it with thicker slices giving it a lot more spongy texture. Parking is an issue at this shopping center. I got extremely lucky to be able to park right in front of the restaurant. While I was waiting for the jackazz to leave their parking spot(excuse my French, but they literally took like 10 minutes once they got into the car to exit the spot), but I noticed several cars making circles to find a spot and they passed me a couple times. This place is a tad bit more expensive for each dish, but we enjoyed it. Definitely will be back soon.

Great Chinese food, my go to food in Newcastle, always get general Tao’s chicken, Mongolian beef and fried rice Pros: convenient, online take out ordering, tastes amazing(I have friends in west Seattle that come out just for Yea’s) portions are huge. Cons: no combo(if you want two or three things it’s going to cost you(granted you get enough food to feed an army) takes a while sometimes

My first time here was New Years day. The restaurant was not only open but packed. The décor is outdated. For me the location is out of the way. The service is ok. The food is GOOD. The portions are HUGE. On a freezing day, the hot and sour soup hit the spot, very good flavor. We finished the entire order before the rest of the food arrived. We ordered Mongolian beef, general tsao’s chicken and honey walnut prawns. I was pleasantly surprised how fast the food came out given how busy the place is. The portions are very large and everything comes out family style meant for sharing. My favorite was the hot and sour soup and Mongolian beef, even though I am not a big beef fan. The honey walnut shrimp was just a tad too sweet for me with just a bit too much sauce. The staff is attentive with refills and checking in. Bonus, they box the leftovers for you instead of just bringing boxes to your table.

The first thing you usually notice when you come to Yea’s is the long line. I’m not from the area, but I’ve been here twice. Apparently either 1) my cousins like it or 2) my uncle and aunt think my brother and I really like coming here. It’s definitely a very popular restaurant — last time I had to wait about 30 – 45 minutes at dinner time for a table for 6. There are a lot of white people there but also a good number of Chinese people eating here as well. Maybe half/half. For the food: it’s kind of bleh. It’s oily. It’s oddly sweet. It tastes okay. The portions are definitely made for family style. Each dish probably has enough to serve about 8 people. I’ve eaten some of the more traditional Chinese dishes and some of the more Americanized ones. I can’t say I really liked any of them, but they weren’t bad. Again, too much oil and sugar made some of the food off putting. Overall, not worth the wait or the price. Unsure why it’s so popular, considering there are so many other good Chinese places in the area! P. S. Before I end, I want to shout out to the Hispanic guy working there though. On my last visit, I saw him wipe down tables, take finished plates away, deliver the bill to multiple tables, box up food. like a champ. Keep doing what you’re doing. He’s definitely one of the MVPs at Yea’s.

I heard so many wonderful reviews about this place. My Chinese friends enjoy coming here during the weekend. Today, I came for lunch and after the first couple bites of the Luncheon Specials– Crispy Shrimp with Black Bean sauce & Mongolian Chicken and Beef lunch plates, the sodium was too overwhelming. We finished the fried rice, but couldn’t get pass the saltiness of both entrees. Furthermore, I ordered from the dinner menu, the Salt and Pepper Calamari(Squid) and found it tasteless and plain. What an extreme contrast. They provided the salt and pepper on a small side-dish, also. So underwhelming was the dish, that, after couple cups of hot tea and a glass of water, I decided to pack it up and try again with some rice back home. I’d hate to waste the food, but, I couldn’t take any more of the saltiness. I’m not sure I will come back here again, but I’m always willing to give it another try. In any case, the three dishes are definitely crossed off my list.

We were here last weekend with my parents and had lunch. Seriously, this place is our go to place whenever my parents visit, for a birthday, or any other occasion! The service is always fantastic and the food is great. I always get the Mu Shu pork or chicken!

FOOD– Best Chinese food on the eastside! Hot and sour soup is a must. Fried shrimp are amazing. Fried rice and garlic beans are ridiculously good. SERVICE– There is always room for improvement but the staff takes care of everyone and are very quick. There is a lot of customers so it’s obvious the staff is tired/over worked. LOCATION– Interior is dated. A bit far from the freeway. Plenty of parking and worth the drive. PRICE– Very good value! They do nickel and dime for things like extra forks and«to go» soup cups which is annoying considering they won’t have any dishes to wash so it should be a trade off.

We read the reviews and went with a lot of expectations. Lets start with a warning. Please order less– the positions are ginormous. The food was not good. It was oily, seemed not properly cooked, just did not taste right. I wouldn’t go back.

Yea’s Wok offers a mix of authentic and Americanized Chinese dishes, but it’s really good if you’re craving Americanized Chinese. This place will definitely satisfy the unhealthy and oily but so delicious craving. The place is really popular so don’t be surprised if you see a lot of people standing by the door and entrance. The dining area doesn’t look that large but they do have a back room on the side that seats larger parties. When there aren’t large parties to seat, they ask if you would be willing to share a community table. They will leave a seat or two between you and the next party though. People are friendly and just want to eat so sharing a table is not that big of a deal. The menu is just a long list of items. It would be more helpful if they were potentially sorted by category but it’s still manageable. There are no pictures or descriptions of the dish so be careful when you order. You may get something that you weren’t expecting. At lunch, every dish comes with a mound of fried rice as well as your choice of soup: egg flower or hot and sour. The egg flower soup is pretty standard. Nothing that stood out but wasn’t bad either. It’s nice to have something to sip on while you’re waiting for your food and it’s so warming especially when it’s cold outside. I tried the lemon chicken because it sounded interesting and appetizing. Since there are no pictures I had no idea what to expect. This dish is fried chicken smothered in a lemon sauce that reminds me of the sauce they use in sweet and sour chicken. However, the sauce is definitely a lemony orange color and has a tangy flavor to it. The lemon flavor is very subtle so it is not as acidic as you may think. The sauce that is both tangy, sweet and savory compliments the fried chicken well. I also tried the string beans with chicken. If you’re a string bean/green bean fan, then this dish may excite you. It comes with a lot more greens than protein. In fact, they make sure the greens are the star of the dish and that the chicken isn’t overpowering. The slices of chicken are quite thin and seasoned well from the greens. The only complaint would be that the string beans weren’t that plump. They were more on the wimpy, sad side. But I love string beans none the less. The fried rice probably could have used more oomph to it, but fried rice is always a welcoming sight when you’re craving Americanized Chinese food. Each dish also comes with two pieces of what seems to be like a crispy wonton? I wasn’t a huge fan of it, but it does come with the meal. Service wise, the servers didn’t come around very often but I didn’t feel like it was really necessary. My tea was always refilled since they leave the teapot there with you. I didn’t have any issues with the food and really didn’t need anything else. It was pretty easy to flag someone down when we needed our check. Price was, the place is pretty cheap for the amount of food you get on one plate. I was actually quite surprised by each portion size all for $ 8 – 10. The bill without tip was a little less than $ 20 and I definitely was stuffed. Glad there were so many different components to a main entrée. If I’m craving Americanized Chinese then I am definitely coming back.

HUGE portions and super cheap. Had 2 lunch specials and it came out to $ 16. It was so much food I took the leftovers home and made it into 2 more meals. I’ve had the chicken & vegetable, Mongolian beef and the almond fried chicken. All were delicious and came with a side soup. Option of egg flour or hot and sour. Friendly service and family ran. Been back twice and there will be many more times!

I ordered to-go from Yea’s Wok late one evening on my way home. This was a solid find for sure. I ordered Pork fried rice & Lemon Chicken. Portion sizes were big(definitely shareable) which surprised me as sometimes to-go orders you get less. Not the case with Yea’s! Service when I called in = Great. Service upon pick-up = Fast and very pleasant. Time from order to pick-up = 15 mins. Food = good flavor and still piping hot when I got home to enjoy it. Definitely Americanized Chinese food, but very tasty!

Great food and great prices! It’s family style, so the portions are huge! They do not skimp on the honey walnut shrimp whatsoever. Everything is so delicious and yummy. Service was better than most Chinese restaurants as Chinese restaurants are infamous for having terrible service. The food is prepared quickly. The rice is a bit over-cooked in my opinion, but everything else was great! Flavor is on point and in excited to eat my leftovers tonight! My boyfriend and I ordered the Orange chicken, the egg flower soup, the house special fried rice, and the honey walnut shrimp. Could definitely feed 4 people easy.

Your customers should be your #1 priority!!! 5 stars for the chef because their food is overly delicious and 0 star for their obnoxious servers. So I ordered their seafood hot and sour soup. While ordering, I asked if there’s only seafood in the soup, waiter said yes. So I’m sitting there eating my soup, and I always look at everything before I eat it, I scooped a white meat from the soup. I know that piece of meat wasn’t seafood because the texture was different. I asked a different waiter what is was and she said oh it’s chicken. I told her their menu did not list that it was chicken and seafood hot and sour soup. She replied with yes it says chicken on their menu, I said no. It went on and on so I told her to just bring me the menu. Then another sever came and said yes it does say chicken in there. I’m just sitting there thinking to myself y’all really standing here arguing with me. I took a quick look at the menu and all it said was«seafood hot and sour soup.» Waiter apologized and smiled. Whoopty doo. While my other dishes were being served to me, she came back and asked if I wanted my soup to be switched, I said no thanks you can just take it away. Couple minutes later, the server who took my order came back with my soup and asked if I wanted the soup boxed and she was scooping it over and over again. At that point I was thinking are you people serious! I told no thanks, I don’t know what you guys did with the soup. She simply stood there and argued with me about the chicken in the soup. She stopped after I said«I don’t appreciate you standing here arguing with me.» Then she was quiet. HONESTLY, I love yea’s wok food but damn their customer service is HORRIBLE!!!

I ordered takeout online last night. My son and I stopped by the restaurant first hoping to eat there but it was packed and had a line out the door. Neither of us had eaten here before so we played it a little safe, ordering Shrimp with Vegetables, Schezwan Beef, and egg roll. The online order process is intuitive and gives you a pick up time. I picked up the order, came home and discovered that they don’t automatically have rice with the dinner, so if you want rice you’ll need to order it. Also no utensils, soy sauce or the obligatory fortune cookie. None of that mattered to me since I was eating at home but if you were going to the park for instance you can probably ask to add these. The portions are HUGE! We easily could have split one of the dinners. Everything was cooked perfectly. My shrimp was tender and the veggies had a nice crunch and was seasoned well. Both dishes had quite a bit of celery, which I love, but if you don’t you can modify any order. The egg roll wasn’t great — not a lot of filling and not much flavor. There was so much food that I made another meal out of my leftovers today. Next time I will know more about the wait time, the portion sizes and will be more adventurous. Bookmarked this one!

First time visitor. Boyfriend and I have been in search of a good Chinese place near our house, and he discovered this one. Upon his readings of previous reviews of this place, we went in and expected terrible service and decent food. I have never been in a Chinese restaurant that is so packed, with a continuous line out the door! We were instantly sat, and greeted by a waitress with water and tea. There were a lot of employees. Like a lot. Don’t really know who our server was, because the same person never really returned to the table. We ordered Almond Fried Chicken, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, and a Pork Egg Fu Yung. The rice came out super fast. We waited a few minutes and then all the other entrees came out. Pretty good sized portions, especially the rice. The rice was pretty good, though I would prefer we try Chicken Fried Rice next time. I enjoyed the Almond Fried Chicken, but it was basically like sweet and sour chicken with gravy instead of sweet and sour. Large pieces of chicken, usually they come in small pieces everywhere else. Hard to cut. The Pork Egg Fu Yung was nothing but an omelette with plain pork. I tried it, it wasn’t very good. My boyfriend said he’d never have it again. Service was good, we never had to wait for anything that we needed. There were enough employees on that they were all over every table. Just be prepared for a wait, like I said the line would continuously go out the door. It’s an Americanized Chinese cuisine, so not anything close to authentic. No other Chinese restaurants are in the area, so pricing is pretty high, but they have no competition nearby. Our bill came out to be $ 38 for 3 entrees. Will certainly come back to try out some other entrees that they have, and would like to try soups and apps as well. Be prepared to bring the checkbook and an open mind ;)

This joint is definitely busy on the weekends. It is conveniently located in the shopping plaza of Safeway along New Castle Way. The wait can be up to 30 — 45 minutes. The good news is the hostess will give you an alert vibrator(or whatever you want to call it), and you can easily walk to Starbuck’s to wait there. The alert will pick up the signal and vibrate just fine. You can wait around the restaurant, but it isn’t a big restaurant. You will keep bumping into people if you hang around. It is best if you either wait in the car or at Starbuck’s. The foods come with generous portion, and you will get full quickly. Don’t go too hungry with your eyes because you will have a tons of unfinished foods on the table. But again, you will get to have foods to take home for future days. Please expect slow services if the restaurant is busy because it is how it is. The reason why I took a star off of the review is because I thought it was a bit funny and ironic that there were no chopsticks, soy sauce, chili paste, and vinegar. Usually, you would find those goodies at Asian restaurants. My friend and I ordered steamed potstickers, but there were no soy sauce and chili paste given. It was a bit ridiculous to eat plain steamed potstickers. My friend and I ordered special in house combo chowmein, steamed rice, and stir-fried string beans with ground pork. They were delicious. We couldn’t finish these entrees though, so we had to carry the foods home. When I have the chance to be back to Newcastle, I would have dinner here again.

My family has taken quite a few trips here over the years — food-wise, there is nothing specific that sets it apart from your typical Chinese restaurant in terms of flavor. However, we recently visited and unfortunately weren’t too impressed because of other reasons. For a table of 12, we ordered Salt/Pepper Chicken, Salt/Pepper Fish, House Special Chow Mein, Green Beans, Mongolian Beef, General Tsao’s Chicken, Ma Po Tofu, Volcano Fried Rice and white rice. Our usual order normally consists of at least most of these items. First off, the pricing! A large bowl of white rice for our table was $ 12.50! Clearly they’re making a high amount of profit here. We could buy a 25 lb bag of rice at Costco for about $ 15… So either don’t order rice, or bring your own… except don’t blame me if you get some ugly stares. The food was pretty flavorful overall, but with the exception of the General Tsao’s, we noticed that the meat dishes were not very substantial. For example, the salt/pepper chicken pieces were pretty small and had lots of bits made up almost entirely of crust. Same with some pieces of the fish. Similarly the Mongolian Beef consisted of a lot of cabbage and the white crunchy noodles with only a fair amount of beef laid on top. These dishes were the most disappointing in terms of value, however were fine if only considering taste. The other dishes mentioned above were pretty good though. As for the service, it’s pretty quick and the staff is friendly, which is a plus. We’ll probably be back again eventually but will likely consider trying some new dishes.
