PETER WAS GREAT. FIRST TO RESPOND WHEN A/C WENT OUT. CAME OVER A DAY SOONER THAN PLANNED BECAUSE WE FINALLY GOT HOT WEATHER. DID AN EXCELLENT JOB AND CAN'T THANK HIM ENOUGH

Peter is exceptionally knowledgeable and a true professional. I had a significant issue that a prior HVCA contractor had caused, Peter help walk through the National Gas red tape and get the issue corrected. Many contractor’s would not have taken the time and invested the energy to fix someone else’s poor workmanship. Peter gave sound advice and continually emailed to check on progress. I would highly recommend this company.

I have had many good experiences with Leighton’s in the past. We’ve used Peter to service both AC and heating systems in three different homes in Newburyport. He is responsive, he knows his stuff and he gets the job done, usually the same day you call him. Just last night I found a pipe leaking water from part of our system in the basement. It was 10 pm, but I called Peter hoping to leave a message to get on the schedule for the morning. Not only did he answer the phone, he came over at 10:30 to make sure the proper valves were shut down until he could do the real fix today (which he completed at exactly the time he said he would). Leighton’s is reliable. trustworthy and knowledgeable. I would (and have) recommended him to anyone. Before discovering Leighton’s we used a different company outside of Newburyport and had a terrible experience.

Well Julie, I had quite the opposite experience with Peter Leighton. I had him come over and service my 3.5 ton central and 1.5 ton Mitsubishi Mr. Slim about 4 weeks ago and things have not been the same with the Mitsubishi since. It was blowing warm air for the last few weeks and was installed back in 2008, so it wasn’t that old. It had been serviced once, a couple of years ago. Peter serviced it and says he was wrapping it up to leave, when he turned it on and all of the sudden the blower fan blew up in his face and went flying into the room. It’s funny how it happened minutes after he touched it. Oh, that’s right, he said, «it destroyed itself». He said he could order the part and schedule to fix what was now a broken 5 year old unit. I was actually in the hospital at the time, but he gladly charged my wife $ 252 for the fine work he had done and he was on his way to his next job. A week later he came by to fix it but my babysitter was a few minutes late so he left and we waited another week for him to come fix my «not working «5 year old Mr. Slim». I arrived home to find that Peter had encountered another problem with the 5 year old unit. Yep, he had replace the $ 180 blower fan and then realized that the bearing was also bad and the unit was making an «RRRRR…rrrrrrr…RRRR» sound, but not to worry, he had shimmed it with a poker chip and it was really quite now; and boy was the air cool that was flowing from the unit. Nice. He did say that he didn’t know how long that would work though, so he suggested that he get that bearing on order and he could come and install it. The unit was quite at the time, so I wrote him a check for the $ 480 invoice that he handed me and he was on his way again to service other customers in the Merrimac Valley. Minutes later my son came into kitchen, where I was and said, «the AC is making a noise,» and boy was it. It was making an «RRRRR…rrrrrrr…RRRR» sound, likely the same sound Peter had heard earlier. I was having a hard time speaking because I had sank $ 752 into the unit and man this was adding up and I was starting to feel like something was not on the up and up. I was a little upset and felt like someone might be taking things that were not theirs. I decided that I would re-​assess if all of this money was worth it, but my wife called Peter and got him to agree to only charge us 1 hour of his premium labor rate of $ 120 per hour. Nice, but I was already into this for a lot of money and seemed to be getting charged for the same thing over and over. The next week, he had his office administrator call my babysitter/​nanny and schedule for the following week. I called back later in the day to see if I could get this done and fixed any sooner as it had been a month since the blower fan had «destroyed itself». I expressed my frustration with the service I had received and he proceeded to tell me it was my fault that I did not buy a new unit from him and avoid all of this repair work. You guys getting the picture yet??? Peter and I had words on the phone, I raised my voice because I was unhappy with being taken for a ride and Peter said he would not come and finish repairing the unit that he likely broke in the first place.
I would never do business with this guy again. He’s a complainer and thinks he’s doing people a favor by coming by.
I have since bought a whole new evaporator for $ 400 and just need to get someone in to install. That should cost another $ 250 atleast.
So almost $ 1500 later and I will have cool air in one of the rooms in my house. It just so happens to be the one we spend most of our time in.
I wouldn’t do it if I were you. There are plenty of other reputable AC guys in Newburyport or the surrounding area
