Brigham Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

This is a sad, filthy, scary place that the government (CMS) needs to shut down.
Recently, my uncle passed away here after he fell from bed when they didn’t put up bed rails, even though he was heavily medicated and dying from end stage cancer.
The other horrible reviews here are no exaggeration. Someone needs to do something before more elderly relatives are further tortured.
Also, the only thing I can say about any «5-​star» reviews here is that those are either fake reviews posted by the nursing home admin, or those people posted about the wrong nursing home. This is truly a horrible place. The bad reviews are TOTALLY accurate.

We have the unfortunate need for a loved one (my Brother) to stay at Brigham Manor for Rehabilitation after being diagnosed and treated for a Brain Tumor. We have experienced first hand an extremely caring staff that has taken wonderful care of his every need. According to my Brother, the food is good and everyone is treating him well. Housed in an old and historic Sea Captains Mansion the place is indeed old. However, the accommodations are clean and adequate. The deck off the dining room is expansive and nicely shaded by a pair of awnings. It offers residents a nice place to sit outside in the fresh air.
We feel compelled to single out «Brian» for being nothing short of awesome to my Brother and everyone else we’ve seen him interact with. He is a hard working, possibly over worked employee who really makes a difference. He not only deserves a raise, he also deserves a day off! The PT is working well in making Bro stronger and moving towards his eventual discharge and return home. The rest of the staff has been great as well, we have no complaints. Though we can’t wait for my Brother to be strong enough to come home, we are comforted that he is safe and well cared for.
Initially we were concerned about previous reviews but from what we can tell they are unfounded and not deserving.

My husband who is fighting stage 4 cancer was sent here after a hospital stay to gain his strength back so he could come home. My first impression of this place was bad, but quickly turned horrific! I had to get ‘buzzed in’ because all doors were kept locked and alarmed, at night and also during the day when visitors are coming to see their loved ones. The smell of urine smacked me right in the face! I then had to get ‘buzzed in’ to the staircase hallway that led upstairs to the second floor. The door was shut behind me and I found MYSELF locked in, and was told to ring the buzzer at the top of the stairs and they would let me in. I ended up stuck in the stairway for quite a while, and it was only when I nearly had to bust the door down before someone came and let me in. Apparently the buzzer was broken. When I finally got to see my husband he told me that he had asked several times for some water and just couldn’t get them to bring him any. I had to go find someone and tell them that my husband was fighting dehydration and HAD TO STAY HYDRATED. I was informed that all the water pitchers were dirty and she would have to go and wash one for him. OMG!!! IT WAS 9 OCLOCK AT NIGHT!!! I was disgusted and thought ‘don’t they wash the dishes during the day’ ??? She returned aprox 30 min later reeking of cigarettes… must have been her priority. If that horrifies you listen to this… my husband was transfered from the hospital where he was receiving lots of meds on a regular schedule… fluids, pain meds, antidiahhrea meds, nausea meds, and so on. We were informed that the pharmacy had his scripts and would be delivering them within a couple of hours. So I brought his «bedtime» meds from home and figured that by the time he was due for more the pharmacy would have already delivered. My husband received ZERO meds throughout the night, and by 7 a. m the next morning he was on the phone with me asking me to pick him up. When I arrived I asked the morning nurse if she had administered his a.m. meds and she told me that she had just called the pharmacy and that it would take about 4 hrs before they would be there. He signed himself out that morning A.M.A. (against medical advice). He was only there for 12 hours, but it was 12 hours too many!
PS… I didn’t even mention how much repair the building itself needed ! It was below zero with the wind chill and it took two nurses to close the window in his room!!!

My mother was recently transferred here by my sister who wanted her closer and evidently has gone deaf, dumb and blind. This place is a DUMP!!! The rooms are tiny, and the day we were here there was ONE nurse for the WHOLE floor. Bells and beeps were coming from multiple rooms and the nurse was on the phone and I had to go get her to tell her a patient needed help. The double room my mom was put in is so small she can’t move her wheelchair around her bed or have a comfortable place to sit. The rooms are stuffy and old and the whole place is like a place that time forgot. The hallways are crowded and small as well and there is only one activity room on the floor where all the patients are corralled.
Outside there is just as little attention paid to the cleanliness and repair of the facility. There is a nice deck area but there was noone out there because there is no staff to help patients get there! The doors are locked and alarmed so patients can’t leave, another sign it is understaffed. There is just one elevator as well.
We happened to be there for dinner. It only gets worse. This is what they served. BBQ on a bun, slaw, and ICE COLD… as in uncooked onion rings with mandarin orange slices, milk and hot tea.
Please shoot me now if I have to end up in a place like this. People hollering and screaming in the break room and nobody to even talk to these people. It is horrific and sad, we are moving mom ASAP. DON’T PUT YOUR ELDERLY FOLKS IN THIS DUMP!!!
