Magoo’s Sports Bar and Grill

Food quality is not bad for the price. I come here after my Dodgeball league, so they give us discounts. It’s a fairly chill bar, and a well kept establishment. They are accommodating to groups. Beer selection is good and their deals on the gallon can’t be beat.

Bring a pillow because it’s a lonnnggg wait for your food. Place has tanked from what it had been. Nobody around. Can’t change the tv channels because the manager is the only one and no one knows where the manager is. Classic. Buyer beware!!!

Best sports bar in the area, pizza is amazing, off menu items are like In-​N-​Out, just ask a regular about their favorite, I’m into the calzone! Don’t forget the scratch made soups and deserts, you won’t find those at that other Chain sports bar with so much UV lighting you get a headache place.

I love going to Magoo’s. Either to watch football or with friends. The food is delicious. The beer is good craft variety and a good price.

Last week my husband and I decided to order salads from Magoo’s to go, so this review will not touch on what it is like inside.
We had decided to order salads because I was having some health issues and had to be very particular with what I ate. I poured over the menu and my husband decided to order the Chicken Caprese salad and I ordered the Hole-​In-​One Salad.
He went to go and pick them up 15 minutes later and they were ready when he arrived. No issues there. The issues came to my salad instead.
He said that his salad was «eh» and he had had better in other places. For me, I wouldn’t even say that. The salad I ordered, according to their menu, was supposed to be this:
«HOLE-​IN-​ONE– Tri-​Tip Salad
Tri-​Tip steak atop mixed greens, sliced mushrooms, cucumbers, scallions & blue cheese crumbles. «
That is not exactly what I got. First, I ordered it with blue cheese dressing and it came with ranch. Second, it was supposed to come with scallions and blue cheese crumbles. There were no scallions and I found exactly two pieces of blue cheese in my salad. Next, it was littered with tomatoes. The main reason that I ordered this salad was because it didn’t list tomatoes. I spent almost 15 minutes picking tomato pieces out of my salad in the hopes I could eat it and not get sick. Realized half way through that the juices of the tomatoes was still on the salad and I stopped eating it. Also, the tri-​tip had no flavor and it was waaaay overcooked.
I called the restaurant to tell them of the mistake in my salad. The woman I got in the phone didn’t get it. I was trying to tell her that I was missing ingredients and had ingredients not listed on the menu. She was trying to pull my order thinking that would solve the issue. Again, I explained the the salad I got did not have the things mentioned in the menu and that there were things added that shouldn’t have been there. Finally, she sort of understood and said that she would tell someone. Asked for my name and number and said that someone would call me back. No apology, no can we make you another salad, nothing. To top it off, no one bothered to call me back.
After the way that I was treated, there is no way would I ever order from them again or go and eat in their restaurant. Obviously they don’t care about making the customers happy.

The food is good and the people are nice. I live walking distance so convenience is always good. We have gone as a family with our kids and it’s ok for families as well, but kinda depends on when you go. But the portions were great and food was good.

Fresh and Delicious food. Best Pizza in the area, by far! Me and my boys are addicted to their Buffalo Chicken pizza. My babydoll is addicted to their BBQ chicken pizza. Their wings are on point. Best homemade ranch I’ve had. Made from scratch garlic rolls and marinara sauce. Great for game nights, they have something like 15 or 20 flatscreens. It’s not freakin crowded like other sports bars, so we get top notch service and seating. Love this place!
Almost forgot to mention they have a full bar– because we deff go for the grub!

New owners doing a great job. So much better the the last new owner who drove the place into the ground. First day of Sunday football all regulars returned nice crowd food is great.

This is our third time visiting Magoo’s and we continue to be impressed by the quality of the food and the amazing service. It’s our favorite sports bar in Newbury Park. Keep up the great work Alex & Co.

You get less food than ever and it costs more. The waitresses are really friendly. I was hoping for a change with new mgt but I don’t have a lot of hope for the future of this place. Which makes me sad.

Highly recommended! Great menu for anyone, portions are big, a lot of choices of beer, chicken wings are the best in CA, excellent service and atmosphere. Very clean bathroom. Definitely coming back again and again. Our vacation from CT.

The food is always good and service has been outstanding. Thanks for a friendly place after our sports events. Incredible homemade soups and desserts.

Magoos is the antitheses of the nearby Cronies. Sports Grill. It makes no bones about being your gritty little friendly neighborhood sports bar. Not as glitzy, antiseptic, noisy and crowded as the nearby «family sports grill.» Enough draft beer options to keep you happy. Beer is served cold and the prices good, especially when an LA team is on. More of a sports bar menu. Wings and pizza are very good, and the sandwiches are hit and miss. Haven’t tried a salad yet.
Many large televisions and two larger screen televisions in a separate dining and drinking area.
Very comfortable and unpretentious little joint. A real nice change from the hustle, bustle and noise of the crowded Cronies.
Remodeling soon to include an outside patio and hopefully a full liquor license.

Constructive criticism:
It keeps getting less and less desirable each time I come here. It took close to an hour to get our pizza. We were already done with all our appetizers and asked the waitress if she forgot about it, apparently the oven wasn’t working. If that’s the case, you should probably tell your patrons and give them the courtesy of ordering something else. The Dodgers were playing on the majority of the Tvs inside and if you read their giant chalkboard advertisement inside– it says 30% off appetizers when certain LA teams are playing. Not once did the waitress mention this so when we got the bill– we had to ask HER to give us the discount. The pizza eventually came out half cooked and doughy. My friends were hungry and ate it anyways, that part is on them. If I come back I’m only ordering the hot wings. That’s the only thing that’s consistent.

This is the place for watching a game, you can get a good view of whatever game you want pretty much anywhere in the place!
New management = altered menu = all bad if you’re a vegetarian. They ruined the Fielders Choice wrap by putting the only 2 vegetables that I hate in it, mushrooms and spinach! They also never have veggie burgers even though it’s on the menu, and they don’t serve soup even though it’s on the menu. I don’t usually want pizza, and I need something more substantial than salad, the other options are eggplant parmigiana, or baked ravioli which are both on the pricey side of the menu; so I get stuck eating the eggplant parmigiana sub, which was actually really good, but I don’t want to eat the same thing every game day.
On the upside, they have great options for people who eat meat, and the garlic rolls are AMAZING!!!

I visited Magoo’s many times over the past 15 years, mostly after Sunday night softball games, and some Sunday mornings to watch football. Magoo’s has always been a fun place to unwind while having decent sports bar food. However a recent change in ownership has negatively impacted the quality of the restaurant.
The place still has the old Magoo’s quality and taste; I still recommend the hot wings, hot bat and pizza.
However my most recent experience included a server who talked non-​stop about how she is quitting work at Magoos because the owner/​manager is a «total jerk» and «how dare he talk to her like that», a cook who dragged a full trash can out the back door and emptied the trash, and then proceeded to go back to cooking without washing his hands (the kitchen is open and visible), and filthy doors/​floors with unkempt spaces.
Personally, I am no longer going to frequent Magoo’s. There are now many better alternatives nearby.

I’ve taken my family to Magoo’s on a handful of occasions, mostly during football season because televisions so we can watch the games. I thought since the restaurant is under new management we would see an improvement in their food but I was wrong. We had breakfast and it was literally the worst breakfast I think I have ever had (and I have traveled a lot and had some really bad ones). My wife ordered an omelette and it came to her with quite burnt. The egg was burnt over three quarters of the entrée. When she got to the bottom of the omelette where bacon was it was also burnt. My daughters sandwich very mediocre, my son’s breakfast pizza was mooshy and my eggs on the eggs and sausage plate were burnt.
To top off a bad breakfast their restrooms were dirty and smelled bad.
Waitresses are kind and helpful, televisions are nice and the beer is cold but I can find that at any other place within a mile of Magoo’s. I live so close I hope this place gets better one day but so far I haven’t seen that.

Real food at a sports bar. You can taste the homemade touch in the sauce, cheese, and texture of the food. We had pizza and it was cooked to perfection.
The owner welcomed us, and we could see how he acknowledged each of the guests either when they came in or they were leaving. The waitress was very attentive and the food came fast to our table. The prices are very fair for the food portions. We will definitely come back.
