Le Puy A Wine Valley Inn

WARNING! BUYER BEWARE… Read the FINE print! Though I agree with the other reviewers that the property itself, the grounds, and view are spectacular, I agree 100% more with all of the negative reviews of Le Puy. The owners are NOT warm or friendly AT ALL. They make it clear that it is their home first and foremost and don’t seem to really want guests there. It seems like perhaps they need the money to pay for the magnificent estate it is and that «Big Brother» is constantly watching your every move and simply tolerating you.
In retrospect, we should’ve picked up on all of this from the beginning when we were not so much «greeted» as we were interrogated upon our arrival. Lea, the owner, was outside waiting for us at the top of the driveway and seemed to be judging and evaluating if she deemed we were acceptable to allow us entry into her house. She had a bit of a scowl look on her face then instantly scolded us for, wait for it… rolling our luggage onto the hard wood floor right there in the entryway!!! WTH?! We were not offered to sit down immediately or have our bags taken up to our room. Instead, before we were «allowed» to sit down or relax in our room from our long drive, we had to answer: if we were planning to have breakfast in the morning? What time? Where are you going for dinner tonight? Tomorrow? Do you have any other plans or events scheduled while you are here? Instead of a friendlier approach reminding us warmly that they are the locals and have great relationships with all of the surrounding establishments and would be HAPPY to assist us, if they could, with any reservations, recommendations, or plans while we were in-​house, etc.(by the way, NONE of the several other local vendors we visited knew of Le Puy or of the owners… seems they are recluses, which is truly a blessing in disguise, TRUST us!). They more demanded us road weary travelers provide them our itinerary right then and there upon arrival! They also made sure to remind us that this is their home where they live and that it is a full house and that we should be sure to be QUIET in respect of others. As if we were some hell bent partying barbarians?! VERY shocking, rude, condescending and insulting!!!
Now in fairness to ownership, the web site does state in THE POLICIES section (that should’ve been a red flag right there) that children and small animals are not allowed, and that «other than meals provided by the inn, is not permitted in any inside or outside common areas to preserve a tranquil environment for all guests… that this is a serene environment for all guests». However, is it just us? But does anyone expect to see or read a policy related to Dining at an overnight sleeping accommodation??? Are we the only ones that could’ve missed this RULE and didn’t expect such a strange and strict demand at a hotel/B&B??? So, like us, if want to bring back your leftovers from one of several incredible local restaurants, or grab an awesome pizza from Red Market’s incredible wood-​burning ovens and eat it in the Loire Room (club room that has only real TV offering mulitple channels, a microwave, etc) or out on the balcony overlooking the backyard… DON’T STAY HERE!!! You are «not allowed». I am NOT kidding! We attempted to do this apparently heinous act and were literally stopped by Lea before entering the property and reprimanded like a high school kid caught throwing a raging party. There was much disappointment and disdain in her eyes and demeanor. We were promptly told «absolutely not» when verifying that we couldn’t eat our pizzas in the club room whilst watching a little TV. Furthemorer, we were reminded that it is clearly stated on the web site’s policies!
One thing the web site DOES NOT point out (but truly misleads actually) is that if you, like us, have realistic expectations of wanting to watch the day’s news or simply to fall asleep to the TV in your room, DON’T stay here. It’s not possible! Yes technically there is a TV in your room. And yes, the web site does say (under accommodations): «Each room has an LCD TV with access to our DVD library where guests can enjoy our movie collection». However, would anyone else take that to mean (or be shocked as we were) that it does not have satellite, cable or even local channels?!? You can literally ONLY watch a DVD movie from the in-​house selection provided in your room.
We actually ended up only staying one of the two nights we originally booked. We packed up and walked out… gladly paying a premium walk-​in rate at another establishment that was friendly and actually knew what guest service is/​was, because of how terribly we were spoken to and treated at Le Puy.
So, to sum it up, if you don’t want to be treated like a high school student with the world’s strictest mother who waits up, interrogates, and publicly shames you (and doesn’t allow you to bring outside food in), then DON’T STAY HERE!

We held our wedding in the Willamette Valley wine region and wanted an intimate place to stay on the weekend of our wedding. We found the perfect setting in Le Puy. With eight rooms, we were able to include our family and close friends for the two-​night stay.
Perched up a hill overlooking the countryside, the setting of Le Puy could not be more beautiful. As we arrived on Friday we felt instantly calm by the sound of the courtyard water feature and our guests were in awe of the breathtaking views and tranquility all weekend. The rooms are spa-​like and beautifully appointed the common areas cozy and warm. Our guests felt like the luckiest people getting to stay at such a wonderful location! Lea answered my many questions leading up to the wedding weekend and even shielded me from some drama when my family contacted her without my knowing. I thank her for that!
On Friday evening, we held a small gathering for out-​of-​town guests in the Saumur Room. Lea and Andy created the most beautiful and rustic arrangement for our gathering of close to 40 guests. They kept the bar area well-​stocked with ice and attended to our guests with grace. Red Hills Market catered the affair and we had such a blast with their crew! It was such a beautiful night and perfectly relaxed because Lea and Andy kept everything going while remaining in the wings.
Andy is a fantastic chef. After easing into the morning of our wedding, soaking in the beauty of the day from the covered deck, we made our way into the dining room for an amazing gourmet brunch. Our friends and family loved it!
Lea and Andy were the perfect hosts and their inn is an amazing oasis. We cannot thank them enough for their help in the process of preparing for our wedding weekend and the execution of the absolutely perfect weekend! Lea and Andy were outstanding hosts! They helped create a stunningly memorable experience and we can’t wait to return for our first wedding anniversary.

We couldn’t happier with our recent 3-​night stay! Everything was flawless, from cleanliness to breakfast to the overall atmosphere of our room and entire property. Andy and Lea were gracious hosts with great recommendations that helped make our entire trip even better. Views were incredible. We are really picky when it comes to hotel rooms and everything was perfect. Only drawback was internet speed, but pretty sure this has to do with the geographic area of the valley, as our Verizon LTE was just as slow everywhere in the area. If you’re a business traveler with serious need for internet usage/​speed, this would be frustrating. Everything else with the Inn far outweighed that minor inconvenience. My husband and I stayed in this lovely inn as a part of a wedding party. It is so nice! We look forward to returning for a tour of the Willamette Valley vineyards. Perfect location for such an excursion.

My husband and I had business in Salem, so we decided to spend the weekend in wine country. We were lucky that there was a last minute cancellation at Le Puy and they were able to accommodate us. Lea and Andy are such gracious and knowledgeable hosts! From the minute we arrived, they made us feel welcome and comfortable. The Inn and setting are beautiful! Our room (Heaven) lived up to its name and was perfectly appointed with everything we could need. Every suggestion that Lea and Andy made, from where to eat to which wineries to visit, were excellent. The breakfasts they served were amazing! We highly recommend Le Puy to anyone who wants five star luxury accommodations with a local homey vibe.

We just came back from our second stay (in two years) at Le Puy for three nights. This time we stayed at one of the bigger rooms downstairs, Mountain. The «Mountain» room has a very private porch and most importantly, an outdoor hot tub.
The facilities were perfected maintained and I could see Lea and Andy made quite a few upgrades sine our last visits, such as solar panels.
Andy and Lea are excellent hosts. The breakfast was delicious and healthy. They use high-​quality and very fresh ingredients, eggs from neighbors, berries from their own farms. Lea knows the area really well and made excellent restaurants and winery recommendations.
We really enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to go back again!

Andy and Lea are extremely gracious hosts. Lea in particular was a great help in exploring the surrounding wineries. Andy meanwhile worked hard in the kitchen to come up with tasty and creative breakfasts. The inn has a very peaceful and harmonious atmosphere which makes it a very relaxing place (no satellite TV in the rooms). The accommodations — bed, bath and furnishings — are quite well done and the surrounding landscaping is outstanding. Be aware that all of the rooms are themed and quite distinct. The Lake room, where we stayed the first night, is primarily one large and luxurious bathroom! The next night we switched to the Thunder room with a smaller bath but which had a balcony with a great view of the surrounding countryside. A beautiful place to relax.

Lea’s response speaks loads to her character and poor customer service. Bottom line, there’s a right way & a wrong way to handle things, Lea chose the wrong way and continues to make it worse for herself and their business with her rebuttals that only strengthen my original review. Take a look at our other reviews (two of which @ B&B’s) I rarely write negative reviews.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Le Puy Inn. We celebrated my wife’s birthday while we were there and it couldn’t have been nicer. It’s one of the few B&Bs we’ve stayed in where the place was actually better than the pictures. Tastefully decorated with great attention to detail. It is perfectly located for wine tasting and they have great recommendations for the best wineries and restaurants to visit depending on your preferences. I heartily recommend.

Staying at Le Puy was the highlight of our Oregon trip. We stayed in the Air room, and we were thrilled at how spacious it was. We loved the view of the vineyards from the balcony.
Lea and Andy are natural planners, and they thought of everything that we’d possibly need to enjoy our stay. We borrowed a backpack from them, grabbed a cutting board and cheese knife from our room, and headed out on a wine hike using a map that they provided. All these little touches made us feel so welcome and comfortable.
One thing I especially loved at Le Puy was all of the outdoor space. There were so many different patios and places to sit with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.
I will absolutely recommend Le Puy to friends and family.

We had a lovely stay. Rooms were comfortable with great views. Breakfasts were quite tasty and we had a pleasant conversation with Lea and Andy every morning. They are very knowledgeable with all things Willamette Valley.

We stayed in the Mountain room for two nights in November and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lea and Andy were welcoming and even though we were running a bit late on our arrival time (I called ahead for a heads up) we still felt welcome.
Our room was spotless and every attempt to ensure we were comfortable was made. The bed was a Tempurpedic mattress which made our sleep very enjoyable. The windows had blackout shades so we weren’t blasted with morning light first thing. Our room was equipped with a TV & DVD player (DVDs are available in the media room), a small fridge, and a set of cups, wine glasses, dishes, utensils, and napkins. If you forgot your soaps, don’t worry because the shower is complete with body soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. If your shoes are scuffed, there are also shoe polishing cloths!
The main living areas of the B&B contain a sitting area and fireplace, a library with board games, books, magazines, cards, yoga mats, and lawn games. Through the breezeway outside is an entertainment room with a large screen TV that is connected for cable TV viewing, an impressive DVD collection for use there or in your private room, a kitchen area, and a large sofa. This is a great area to use if you are staying with a large family or group of friends.
Breakfast was served at 9am, however by 7am there was coffee, tea, pastries, and fruit set out if you need something to curb your appetite. During our stay we enjoyed delicious oatmeal scones and for breakfast the first morning the pain perdu with bananas & strawberries and a side of local bacon was outstanding. Most enjoyable for me because it wasn’t too sweet. The second morning we had a salmon mousse baked in a puff pastry with spiced baked grapefruit on the side. The breakfasts here are the best I’ve had at a B&B.
When we made our reservation we selected the Taste of Willamette which was really nice to have waiting for us in our room when we arrived. A local bottle of wine, a selection of two local cheeses and meats, salted caramels, nuts, and crackers. If you decide that you want more wine during your stay, bottles can be purchased from the selection they have on-​site.
The grounds of Le Puy are stunning and there are plenty of places to relax. I wish we’d been able to stay longer and my only hope is that sometime in our future we will find ourselves visiting again!

We stayed at Le Puy for 2 nights and it was an amazing experience! We stayed in the ‘air’ room and it was beyond perfect! The views from our room were breathtaking and we were surprised with fresh chocolates and hazelnuts each evening. Lea and Andy were the nicest people and made us feel right at home and helped plan our perfect day. Breakfast each morning was delicious and they were very accommodating to my food allergies. Overall, we were so impressed during our stay and would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Oregon wine country. You will not be disappointed!

Love Love Love this Inn. My daughter and I visited the beautiful Oregon Wine country for 5 night. Our stay was «the BEST». Very Impressive and great service! Our room was cozy, beautiful and very comfortable. Every morning we were delighted with a wonderful breakfast. Lea and Andy were always helpful and pointed us to some of the best wineries in the area. We love this Inn so much we even tried to extend our stay. Le Puy Inn is my top choice to stay in the Dundee Hills area. Looking forward to a return trip. Thanks to Lea and Andy for one if my best vacations. :)

I am surprised looking at negative reviews for this place. I was very much impressed by the great service here and attention to those small details that mattered. The couple was warm and welcoming. I am a Marriott rewards platinum member and even then their service/​perks don’t match up to the service we got here. Overall, if you are someone who is looking for a great place with a great view and great hospitality this would be a perfect choice. And their breakfast is definitely something you would look forward to each morning.

My daughter, who is living abroad, arranged for us to stay at Le Puy recently as a surprise. Lea and Andy were especially helpful to her in arranging our stay. When we got there, we felt like we were beign greeted by friends. Lea and Andy were warm, welcoming and engaging. They helped us with reservations for that night and made sure we were comfortable. They were far from overbearing; rather, they were very respectful of our desures and our privacy.
The accommodations were first-​class. Our room was very comforatble with great attention to detail. We never heard a sound from any of the other guests. We had 24-​hour access to a separate movie room, and we could not have asked for much more.
The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and very healthy, and Andy and Lea were very helpful in suggesting different wineries to visit. As far as we are concerned, there isn’t a place in the Willamette Valley we’d rather stay.

This inn provides first rate accommodations in a beautiful setting. We were traveling in a group of six and had all three rooms on the top floor. All three were beautifully decorated with high quality bedding and furniture and provided plenty of space for everyone. Each day we were supplied with wonderful chocolates and hazelnuts and water. There is a fridge in all the rooms as well as a DVD player for which the inn has a large supple of movies. But the reason you stay here is the location, the amazing grounds, and the fantastic service provided by innkeepers Lea and Andy. They were both architects who left their jobs to renovate what was originally a private house into a small and upscale B&B. Our room faced a courtyard with a lovely fountain which was nice to listen to at night.
There is also a separate room from the main house which you are encouraged to use after 10pm and it is stocked with movies and snacks… nice touch.
There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings both inside and out and both Lea and Andy spent time getting to know us and gave recommendations for activities and restaurants.
We had hired a Limo to take us to 4 different wineries during the day and the Inn was a great location base for these excursions. We stayed two nights and had already made dinner reservations in Newberg for both. Andy provided the transportation to the restaurants so we never had to worry about the drive back at night.
The best part of our stay was breakfast. The food was superb and I would love to get the recipe for Lea’s Pain Perdu as it was amazing! I totally recommend Le Puy to anyone visiting the area.
Bear in mind that this is a Bed and Breakfast Inn not a hotel resort. Having stayed in many B&Bs throughout the country, this one rates as one of the best and our hosts could not have been more accommodating.

This is a followup to Le Puy after our stay in March 2012 — one year later after our first one. Even better! We stayed in «Heaven» and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Every little detail is though of and the owners work really hard to make their guests comfortable. In fact, Le Puy was recently lauded in Sunset magazine — June issue! That prompted me to write this follow up when I saw it. Good job, Le Puy!

Called to have a tour of the premise before booking for a weekend;encountered the rudest hostess on the other end. She had no time to talk about the place, or to spend 10 minutes showing us around the property. Was upright confrontational and sounded glad to not have to deal with more guests didn’t care about losing guests for lack of concern. Next place we called was the Allison which was night and day different on their communication and outlook. I would suggest everyone call both before making a decision the Le Puy staff was rude and dismissive before we could even have an experience with them.

This was our first trip to Oregon wine country and Le Puy helped make it perfect. Lea’s recommendations on where to eat and which wineries to visit were spot on. Breakfasts cooked by Lea and Andy were great. The rooms were very nice, echo friendly (but not inconvenient), and very clean. We stayed in the room that has the hot tub on the patio, it was nice to use that after a hard day at the wineries.
We will be back and we do recommend Le-​Puy to anyone that wants to relax and enjoy the Williamette Valley.
