Excellent service, and the food was fantastic. They were very attentive to our needs, and even added stuff onto our sandwiches when we asked. We’ve been searching for a good breakfast spot for a couple of years now, and suburbia tends to be pretty dry in that arena, however this crystal in a sea of sand is well worth visiting. The fruit bowl was beautiful and every piece was ripe(my main beef [pun intended] with restaurant fruit bowls is unripe or overly ripe fruit) and was even arranged quite beautifully. The breakfast burrito I got(made vegetarian) was delicious, and not overstuffed or dripping as some breakfast burritos can be. The salsa included was the right amount of spice to flavor as well for the eggs in the burrito. Overall, A+ experience, my new favorite breakfast joint.

Food: I had the BBQ chicken breakfast, and it was delicious. However, the rice was a bit dry, and the chicken was a bit sweeter then what I was expecting. But overall, I will be back for the food, especially since it was not too greasy like some other places. Service: The reason I took a star off was because the service was too slow, and it was hard to get a refill… Ambiance: Let’s just say, it’s not a place you would take someone out for a first date. It’s more of a place to just chill on a lazy day. Note: Do not come here when you are on a rush!

Ok — we haven’t lived in Newark in 3 years, but each time we visit we have to make a stop into S&J Coffee Shop. S&J reminds me of the local hole-in-the-walls in Hawaii(which is a really good thing). Breakfast and lunch a really good and there’s ample parking. I do like the menu as they include American diner fare with Korean/Asian/Hawaiian plate lunch as well. They make me feel as if I’m back in Hawaii/Kailua without the boardshorts.

Wow. This place is one of the best breakfast places I have ever been to. When I arrived here I took a look at the menu and they have several different choices to choose from. The breakfast was awesome, I got the eggs hash browns and waffle it was delicious. The waiter was very helpful and was always checking in on me if I needed anything even though he was super busy. They made my good fast and came out great. I highly recommend this place and i will be back !

My girlfriend and I went here today for a late breakfast/brunch after finding it on Unilocal.Best choice of the day! All of the food we had was amazing and the service was great too. The waiter and waitress brought our food out as it was ready and made sure we had water refills. We got the teriyaki chicken and the BBQ chicken breakfasts. I got hash browns and she got rice. We also got the side cup of fruit. Everything was great and we were beyond full the rest of the day, we even took home left overs. Definitely gonna stop by this place again!

Fairly good food, service was great. Got an omelet with rice. While the omelet was very good, the rice was dried out. It’s a very popular brunch spot. Didn’t see anyone have trouble finding a table, but the restaurant was fairly full the whole time.

I love breakfast food and am so picky at the same time. With the perfect breakfast, it can really get my day going well. Stopped here for breakfast after a pretty intense workout and was pleasantly surprised, despite the place looking a bit dated and very cafeteria styled, if you will. The service here was wonderful; super nice guy. And I was able to customize my omelet with the Spinach omelet as the base. Basically I wanted ham, mushroom, onions and spinach in my omelet and they gave me just that, with a nice side of hashbrowns. The portion was pretty big, but even I handled the portion pretty well after a workout. Coffee was surprisingly decent as well. I definitely wouldn’t mind coming back. My only complaint is that the ventilation didn’t seem to flow very well. The fan over the stove/area where they cooked didn’t seem to be doing it’s job very well, so it smells a bit smoky and greasy.

Pancakes MUTHA f**kin tastey. Don’t be a noob and order them without strawberries and cream. We are always seated in a timely manner. Food always tastes great. Only knocking off 1 star because of how long it takes for food to be served after ordering. I would recommend this place to family and friends

Came here for the first time and preferred a breakfast burrito. I thought it must be a decent spot since two cops were eating here as well. The décor is simple booth and old school red chairs. Looks like a diner/cafeteria. But onto the important part. .food. Menu had many options ranging fr korean marinated meats to all American breakfast and lunch options. The burrito included veggies(zucchini, mushroom, bell pepper, onion), bacon, crisp hash brown, and cheese w sour cream and salsa on the side. Burrito itself was perfect size. Great flavor except veggies really oily. .dripped fr the burrito. My husband got a bacon burrito as well but without veggies and it wasn’t oily at all. Bacon was crisp too. The salsa had an unappetizing acidity to it which reminded me of a slightly better version(when compared to typical jarred salsas in the supermarket).I think it was not made in house. Overall I liked the burrito. I’ll be back to try more options. There was only one woman taking orders and giving the bill on a Sunday morning. may need more help bc seems to get busy after church.

This place is a hidden gem. Came here for breakfast with a friend. Ordered the Breakfast Burrito and we shared a stack of pancakes. Everything came out fast fresh and delicious. This place should be even more packed. Portions are awesome and the waitstaff are professional and friendly. This place reminds me of dinos, Country way. I think they got some competition on their hands. Great food, nice diner atmosphere. Will def be coming back for the SJ omelet and Breakfast Burrito! Oh, and ask for their salsa, so good on everything! Try this place out.

I’ve been here a few times for lunch & discovered today they have the best Kim-chee I’ve ever had! Never have liked Kim-chee but am now a convert! The Chicken Burrito is made with teriyaki chicken & it was very good. The Reuben sandwich is very good too — thick slices of corned beef & tangy sauerkraut, had it on grilled sourdough — sooo good.

Love d food; 4 stars bugogi: juicy and tasty korean bbq beef w caramelized(I think) onion. Spinach, Avo & swiss cheez Oml was delicious! Teriyaki chicken w rice was okay. hate the attitude; –2 star Jus bcoz I asked Omelette which is off the menu; after she felt sorry for forgetting to take order from us, she ignored our table the whole time. No refill of coffee or water or no matter how many time she passed by filling coffee to other tables which are only 3 aside frm us. If she has nothing to do with other table, she hide behind kitchen, cant even engage eyes to ask for coffee. Awesome, we will tip u lots coz u gave us(off the menu and delicious meal); but for ur service; we wont be back. Gamsam hamida! Edit: wow bdway, the moment after I post this; both servers(nice & not nice one) suddenly came ask me if I wanted coffee repeatedly one by one; she suddenly change her face and all. Water was empty. They were commenting looking at me over one table I could hear them. So, I raise water glass w smile for water, they jus run and got water. Wow! Seriously I didnt know Unilocal was that effective! If I knew, I would have put 5 stars review the moment I came in! Next time Tips! Anyway, I usually dont have low review & we did leave 5 $+ tips for 23 $ bill. I might give second chance then.

This is one of our regular breakfast spots. Parked the car and saw the grand opening sign. Was worried that food would not taste the same. Walked in and saw the original owners in the kitchen. Ordered the usual bbq beef with rice and egg. Food taste exactly the same. There is one more waitress and a bus boy. Service is faster. As long as food tastes the same and service is good, we will continue to come here.

I went to this café after seeing the Unilocal reviews and I wasn’t disappointed. This is a small café with a happy environment. We were served within 10 minutes. The food was tasty and came in good portion. Teriyaki chicken was well made, with perfect sauce and a homemade taste. hash brown was also perfect. Definitely going back to this café

S & J is one of my favorite spots for breakfast or an early lunch in the tri-city area. It’s a small family run restaurant that serves breakfast fare, sandwiches, burgers and Korean BBQ. Their specials are often Korean or Hawaiian inspired such as Korean tacos or spam and eggs for breakfast. Breakfast is served anytime except for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays and comes with hash browns or rice and your choice of toast. An English muffin or bagel with cream cheese are available for an additional cost. My go-to breakfast is the Linguisa & Two Eggs(their spelling, not mine.) Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice. It’s like breakfast in Hawaii without the tourists in loud Aloha attire and poorly chosen swimwear. The BBQ Beef Sandwich is excellent. Tender pieces of grilled marinated steak with mayo, lettuce, and tomato. Served on a fresh French roll with either a green salad or french fries. Nothing fancy, just good eats. I’ll be back to further explore the menu.

Can’t really go wrong with 2 eggs breakfast. Ordered 2 eggs poached with bacon and whole wheat toast and it was standard. Service was okay. Not too slow but not all that efficient anyways. Wouldn’t go out of my way to go here again. Not really wowed by the food or any of their menu options.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as a lot of breakfast places I’ve tried in the area are generally just decently average. But this place, I like and would come again! My order was simple — 2 eggs over easy, sausage, and French toast. So simple yet every bite left me wanting more. The yolks of the eggs exploded in my mouth perfectly. Service was great! The waitress was super friendly and chill.
