Petersen Dean Roofing & Solar

Our solar system was installed yesterday, and I was amazed how quickly and efficiently the job was done. My first solar system on my house in Placerville some 7 or 8 years ago was huge and cumbersome and time consuming, but the new advances in solar panels provided the same power with much less space. I strongly suggest getting the micro-​inverters, which keep panels providing maximum power even if one of them is shaded, or not working. We were extremely impressed by our adviser Jason McCormick, who was patient with us, and very helpful. He kept us up-​to-​date on every step of the operation. We are so happy we called Petersen Dean for solar. We had originally talked to Solar City and they are the most incompetent company I have ever dealt with. Petersen Dean installed the number of panels that benefit us, not them. Price was much cheaper, not 3x my payment that Solar City said. We get the tax rebate and when we sell our house, the solar system is an asset not a liability the new owner may assume. Everything happened when they said it was. They have this great customer portal that lets you see the progress of your installation. One of the most competent and organized companies we have ever dealt with.

I emailed them! I am on a fixed income; my Souther California Edison bill is between $ 40.00 and $ 50.00 dollars a month! hey told me I do not qualify per for their ad’s on the radio and internet and not to trust anyone that contacts me regarding their solar installation!

Very Happy with Petersen Dean Solar install (Dec 2014). They were able to offer great terms on the financing. It took a few months to do the install after signing the contract, but that shows how popular they are. They installed the system in one day, even did some touch up painting where they did their work (i gave them a can of the paint).
The system has been operating for over a year now and production is on point. Through the heat wave last summer we had the Coolest house in town and I loved it!
Brian Pease was our consultant and he was great. Really honest and trust worthy, I had to talk him into letting us buy a larger system than recommended, because he thought it was a too large for our needs.
All in all I would highly recommend Petersen Dean and Brian.

Mr Petersen, Thank You for the response! However let me address your response. My warranty is for 20 years meaning my roof is still under warranty! As far as Linda calling me, please be advised that before I resorted to Unilocal I tirelessly reached out to your office and waited for more than two weeks for a response, please confirm this with your staff, Carol U. (I have the emails as well) My warranty has not ended. I once purchased tires and they were found to be faulty, the company replaced them with a comparable product because… THEY WERE UNDER WARRANTY! Again you have skated around the issue. Linda has reached out to me twice, we spoke once, and I was not available the following day. I was hopeful you would address the language contained in my warranty, instead you have also responded with an excuse.
The warranty that I have in my possession states «that the roofing installation has been installed correctly and will remain free from water intrusion for the period of twenty years» «This warranty provides service in the event of roof leaks» This is what is written in the warranty, what part of this issue has PD addressed? Your response below simply avoids the issue. MY ROOF IS LEAKING, WATER HAS INTRUDED INTO MY LIVING SPACE. Please read your responses again P/​D and tell me where you have addressed the above issue, help me to make sense of this nightmare and stressful situation. Labor warranty:
The homeowner is in year 19 of the 20 labor warranty, this warranty is intact for our workmanship. (REALLY? IS THAT SO. NOT SURE HOW YOU CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION WHEN NO ONE HAS COME OUT TO INSPECT THE ROOF? CHRIS WAS OUT TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR A NEW ROOF THEREFORE YOUR STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE. WHAT DOES IT MATTER THAT WE ARE IN YEAR 19, THAT MEANS WE HAVE ONE YEAR (1) REMAINING. A WARRANTY IS A WARRANTY!
Material Manufacturer warranty:
The Company for the roofing material has gone out of business and the manufacturer warranty for the roofing material is no longer available. (THE MATERIAL WAS WARRANTED FOR 25 YEARS, IF THAT MATERIAL IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, PROVIDE SOMETHING COMPARABLE TO COVER MY WARRANTY)
In view of the roofing material is no longer available we offered to extend our labor warranty one additional year towards a new roof. (WOW, WHAT A GREAT PROPOSAL… I SUPPOSE THIS IS YOUR „GOOD FAITH EFFORT“) While we understand the importance for a sound roof, unfortunately we respectfully decline the homeowners request to extend the warranty for roofing material that is no longer available.

Since Petersen Dean was not the manufacturer of the tiles, the homeowner should investigate potential remedies and recovery for any roofing tile failures with the manufacturer. Further, PetersenDean did not warrant the material in question and the applicable warranty does not cover material failures which have separate warranties through the manufacturer. I’m only in the research phase. I spoke with Jason McCormick who not only answered my usual questions around employee compensation, internal sustainability and CSR practices, etc. he was incredibly informative about industry practices and helped me access information re financing. He also provided immediate support in having my (leaking!) roof evaluated. I look forward to a timely and similarly supportive response from their roofing department and to offering the 5 star rating upon completion of my project if we move forward with Petersen Dean. (PS: Jason gets 5 stars, for sure!)

Petersen and Dean helped us with roofing and solar. The process was fairly easy and I had great support and response. The project was pushed back quite a bit but it was understandable with the rainy season. The workers were very good about cleaning up and communicating progress when they were on site. Overall, I am very pleased with the outcome and support that was given, most importantly the communication.

Jason McCormick and Sophie Barrett project manager made the purchase and install of our new Solar System very easy and quick. Everything was explained and they have stayed in constant contact for the whole experience. We are waiting for final inspection but I am certain that with the expertise of the installers we will sail through with no problem.

We are beyond pleased with choosing Petersen Dean for our Solar installation. I originally became interested in the company upon hearing their radio ads. Of course, with my last name being Petersen I was slightly prejudiced in going with a local company that shared my last name. Our salesman Jeff Stover was very patient, articulate and went above and beyond with our questions and concerns. Communication is so important when proceeding with a major purchase for your home improvement.
There are many different options when moving forward with getting solar panels for ones home and Jeff made sure we completely understood each option and its benefits like purchasing or leasing solar panels. We decided to go with purchasing our solar panels with the current tax benefits and their added value to our home.
The process is a long one. Getting approved for the purchase, then approval with financing, and our home owners association. etc. Each step was done promptly, correctly and professionally.
Once approved for purchase and financing, then it was our turn to be patient with the process as the permits and permissions were collected. Installation was done over two days and the crew was great. Everything was done carefully and professionally. It looks terrific. Once installed it was just a matter of waiting for permission to operate. Every step went smoothly and we are extremely happy with the results.

Great experience. Jason McCormick answered all the questions I had before committing to the project, after which Johana Baltodano (project manager) handled the details of the system down to the day of installation. I also want to mention the electrician (Dan) went out of his way to make sure the inverter and conduit was run as clean as possible and he too answered my questions unique to my installation. I prefer to watch the install as it happens and Dan and the crew that day did not mind at all. Some contractors don’t like being observed but if you are doing it properly, then there should be no concern right?
Awaiting final inspection for permission to operate. Looking forward to it.

Fantastic family owned business who is passionate about American made products and American jobs. My experience from their customer service to pricing to installation to even meeting Mr Petersen himself was top notch and I’d recommend them to anyone who will listen.

After many years of having 300 dollars + of pg&e bills every year, I’m glad to say after our 1^st year of the solar panels installed from Peterson Dean our «true up» with pg&e was 10 cents!!! Yes 10 cents. When they were working with us they told us what we needed to offset the correct amount of solar panels we needed to match our bill. The Solar panels are working great. We get an overview of how much energy the panels produced every month thru email and the panels are constantly monitored. A big thank you to all for everything.

With so many roofing-​contractors out there, it was overwhelming to starting a roofing project. I was lucky enough to be connected with Chris Montaño from Petersen and Dean. Not only was Chris prompt and professional, he was a wealth of knowledge about «everything roofing».He was able to identify my needs while not overselling me or overcharging me on the things that I didn’t need to have to have a fully functional beautiful roof. A new roof is such a huge expense and Chris got it right on the first try. Appreciate the attention to details and the integrity in which you do business.

Our sales consultant was like no other, I felt as if I was having a trusted friend talking to me about a product that would make my life much better by going solar. We were pressured us, questions were easily answered and we were very comfortable. He was always so quick to respond to all my emails and phone calls, he also stayed connected to our project, even now that’s completed.
The rest of the staff we worked with were all very friendly and knowledgeable, the whole process was very smooth, and we were caught by surprise how easy it all went.

I DID NOT take the battery solution «Engerizr» apart as you claim. The decorative face plate was removed to troubleshoot (on the phone with JLM). This allowed me to, per support, to access the control screen for trouble-​shooting. NO techs were ever sent over to put the system back together because it was never taken apart by me or anyone else outside of «PD». THIS IS AN OUT AND OUT LIE! Your techs have only been here during the initial install (Nov23−25), the following week to troubleshoot why it would not start up and the final time to put the breakers in the essentials panel back into the main panel so I could have full power back to my home when the «Energizr» stopped sending power to breakers in the essentials panel.
I have done nothing to void the warranty on my solar system; everything was done with the knowledge and approval of representatives from «PD». I would recommend that your technicians NOT tell the customer that it is okay to power up the solar system prior to PTO from the utility companies. Where do you think I got the knowledge to do that?
The «Engerizr» install was never a completed. The purchase included solar & the «Energizr». This left the customer without any knowledge of the operation and maintenance, just a manual & the approval to work with JLM on monitoring setup, etc. They couldn’t even tell me what it was really dong except running. NOTHING!
When I questioned your supervisor «JB» on the way the essentials panel was being configured I stated this doesn’t seem correct. Why would I spend $ 21,000 on a backup solution when all it appears to do is run my fridge and internet in the event of the rare power failure here in AZ?
«JB» could not answer this question and when I explained to him that I am supposed to be able to utilize the system to offset power from the grid with power from the «Energizr» he still was dumbfounded. I stated that «maybe» the essentials panel breakers was in the event of a total power outage but during normal activity it would then offset power from the «Energizr» to all loads in and outside the essentials panel. «Yes» from «JB», that must be what it does and would check into it. He never contacted me in regards to this again.
Once the «Energizr» was up and running (without monitoring capabilities) the Envoy/​Enlighten monitoring stopped working. I requested help from Pedersen Dean to send someone out to trouble shoot but once again was ignored and nothing happened. I discovered that for some reason the envoy does not recognize micro converters that are running via the essentials panel through the «Energizr». I was accused by «PD» that I modified the solar panel arrays in the enlighten software to monitor the solar system. I sent proof in an email that I did no such thing but also added this is only software that retrieves information and does not send ANYTHING back to the solar system, so no damage is possible.
I never threatened any of your employees, please show me proof of this. What I did state was I was about to get an attorney and report complaints. From the day your sales person set foot in my home for the first time almost ONE YEAR ago until present I have been lied to continually by «PD».
I was told your team was going to California to be trained on the installation of the JLM «Energizr» but come to find out just prior to my installation, your «Energizr» in Arizona, all they did was stay locally and review installation videos. I also viewed these videos and they are for self-​installation (which mine wasn’t) not a qualified trained professional.
When your team came back on 02DEC15 to trouble-​shoot why the «Energizr» would not power up it was apparent they had not contacted JLM technical support. Hours after arriving and having no success I asked if they contact support. They did not have a business partner support number to call and only left a VM from the main office answering machine. I had a technician on the phone within 10 minutes. This is when, and only when the issue was resolved (within 30 minutes).
Here is yet another incorrect statement by you. The install has never been inspected by the city. I have no clue when and/​or if this is to happen. Did it get canceled due to the issues? The conversation that I had with «JB» was he had no clue what the city was going to inspect since they themselves did not know anything about the system and only went off the diagrams they were given on the electrical schematics. They even left the system up and running (WHICH YOU USED AS ONE OF THE EXCUSES TO VOID THE SOLAR WARRANTY). The system had to be left running because if it wasn’t the breakers in the essentials panel would not be supplied power, your «PD» left it running.
I also have been informed that «PD» changed system parameters from what I was originally told, such as only a four breaker load instead of eight in the essentials panel. I was never informed of this until AFTER the install. I was told it would

These guys installed my solar system for me last year. Sorry for the delay in posting. I’m in the contracting business, so I know things don’t always go as planned. I have to say, it did in this case. Other than a slight hick-​up in communication with the original rep, it went like clockwork. Came when they said they were going to. Did what they said they were going to. Prepared me for the the slow PG&E response (So as to not get worked up over a slow response.) and my electric bills are virtually nothing. In fact, I think PG&E may owe me some money come «true up» time. Oh yeah!
Couldn’t be happier. Thanks a bunch Peterson Dean. Contracting is tough business with a lot of moving parts and you did a great job.

I scheduled a phone appointment for 8 am, so that my husband could be present for the sales talk about what we could do at our house. So we wait at the phone for over 15 minutes in my home office, and nobody calls. I have changed plans to be out doing a morning exercise routine, and my husband’s work is waiting. So then we call the 877 number on their email to me and it is not working. So I checked my phone call log in the phone where I made the appointment and got an actual working number. The woman there said it was not a specific time for our phone appointment, but a window of time, up to 10 a.m. So off to work my husband went – it was very clear when I spoke to the person the day before that the call was supposed to happen at 8 am.
So I am by my phone when this representative calls an hour late. While he apologized I was unable to reschedule because of my husband’s unknown schedule and my own deadlines. However, I asked about financing and was told I wanted to get the tax credit for this year. The representative was completely negative about making any effort to get the job done in the next 3 months to qualify for a tax credit for this year. He overstated all the various times it would take to go through the different steps, and did not know the actual parameters for our smaller community on the Central Coast. He made no effort to suggest he find out what the experience is in this area for the various approval steps, he just said we make no promises on how long this takes.
I had hoped for someone who would take responsibility for knowing in more precise terms the amount of time that would be involved in a given area, not a generalized idea for any county, whether its Orange County or a smaller county like ours where solar has not gained as much popularity.
I am glad that I found out at the outset about the «whatever» attitude this company presents about its appointments and undertaking this work.
Oh, and I did follow up and contact the person who responded on line. His response was equally unhelpful. Basically told they could not give any reasonable assurances that the job would be done this year in time to qualify for the tax break, and that it was their own scheduling issues. I was also told I could not get a quote unless they came in person, which was something different than previously represented.
I got better information from a local business, who finished the entire process by early December, and was able to get PG& E to turn the switch on in less than 2 weeks.

Sorry everyone for the delay in updating my review.
After I posted this review on Unilocal.Someone from Petersen Dean contacted me reguarding the issue. They schedule a technician out a couple of days later. He came out and determine that the panels were bad. Just after a year and a half after installation, 3 panels went bad. The technician contacted the solar panel manufacturer to order replacement because they are still under warranty. The panels were going to take 7 to 10 business days to arrive, but Petersen Dean said they have the same panels in their warehouse which they can use those for now. That is a plus, instead of making me wait until the replacement panels from the manufacturer arrive. It is summer now, so it is prime time for solar energy making. That is why I want this to be fixed asap.
A couple days later another 2 technicians came out to replace the 3 defective panels. I have micro-​inverters so I can see if the panels were working or not. Right from the start I was having the same problem. I contacted Chris from Petersen Dean. He advised me to give it a couple of days just to make sure. Couple of days went by and 2 more technicians came out to replace the 3 micro-​inverters that were having problems. After that everything is all good now. I guess all along it was the micro-​inverters.
During this whole time after my first Unilocal review, Chris from Petersen Dean was the one who was dealing with my solar problems. He was very courteous and knowledgeable. He was like a Tylenol that made my solar headache go away. Thanks Chris.
To sum it up, Petersen Dean does live up to their warranty promise when you instal solar with them. I would definitely go with them if I was to do it all over again. They live up to their promise, so I am bumping up their Unilocal rating to 4 stars.

We have had our panels for just over 7 months and love watching the meter run backwards! Steve Huber is the best! Your installers were professional and quick… And the City of Glendale was fast to turn on the system. Did not get along with the project manager Jennifer at all, but we just did not see things the same. Recommended you to friends and family and now you have 3 new customers. Only problem we have had is getting a call back for a service question… everyone’s mailbox is full… So hopefully that is because of how popular your services are. You guys are great!
