Once Upon a Child

I’ve been going to this store since they first opened and have always had a good, if not great, experience. I’ve had great luck finding items for my son and other kids in my life… coats, shoes (dress and casual), jeans, shorts, dress clothes, costumes, bikes, baby stuff of all sorts, and toys. Prices are always lower than retail and I often find things that have tags still on them or are in like new condition. The staff are both friendly and helpful to boot! And I love knowing that I am supporting the business of a local family. Check them out first!

I have found a lot of clothes in excellent condition here at great prices. They usually have a good stock of merchandise. I bought my Bumbo and bassinet from here which were both in excellent condition for ½ the cost of a department store.

If I you ever want to sell an Item there, don’t! They are horrible on finding the correct price for your items! And they give you chump change for it, basically nothing! You’re better off selling it on your own! Or donating it to someone really need, at least you will feel good about it. But it’s not worth it here, and the owners are greedy and plain rude! Especially the lady! It’s no wonder people hardly go there! Save our items and sell them online my advice! Save yourself a rip off and headache to try to get them back!

Very impressed with this location and the service I received! I’ve been to other locations who didn’t give me much money for my very gently, often times new, baby clothing. At least here, they give you a reasonable amount. The wait time was not long and I found the staff to be very friendly and informative. We will be back!

I went in for the first time had mainly large stuff like stroller, playpen, walker ect However, the pricing for my Items was way to low for me so I kept most of my stuff. But the store is very well organized and clean. The stuff they have is in good condition and great pricing. Wish I would of know of this store sooner I wouldn’t have spend so much $ my baby stuff. Staff was nice too

I have been here at the newark location a few times. Its a nice store, with exceptional prices. But selling items here is not my best experience. I really feel they rip you off. I sold 3 costumes and a couple baby clothes brand new with tags, they offered me 9.48 $ ?, just some change short of an even 10 $. Normally I would have walked out with my items, like I’ve done before. But I was in need of cash, so I accepted her offer. I really don’t believe I will sell here again.

After fully inspecting clothes bought there, alot of them had holes or stains… that’s prob why they were selling them at a buck a pop. And when you try to sell your very gently worn clothes — the buyers look at your goods like trash and lowball you for your articles. Go here if you really need too and remember –you get what you pay for.

I love visiting Once Upon a Child! We’ve had more than a dozen great experiences here. As a Silicon Valley family on a budget, it’s great to save money where we can — and I was able to do that here, from buys during my pregnancy to shopping for my almost 2-​year old today.
The staff is always very friendly, and they even patiently explained the pros and cons of different strollers, baby carriers, and high chairs to me and my husband when we wandered in pre-​baby. While we ultimately didn’t buy those things here, they sometimes have amazing deals on those items in stock — and we’ve bought almost all of our baby and toddler clothes, infant activity playmats, toddler toys, and several books here.
Pro tip: remember your punch card! You can save money on future purchases based on what you’ve already spent. If you go during a clearance sale, you can get garage sale prices on inventory that has already been vetted for being in like-​new condition. We’ve even picked up items with the tags still attached here! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Once Upon a Child for making my little girl look so cute the last 2 years.

This place is awesome. Clothes are clean items clean organized. Very impressed. Staff is great. However, the owner is a pure jerk off RUDE OLD MAN! My kids were looking in the toy area. I heard a man say «where’s your parent» I said «right here» the man says «they can’t be playing in here» I said «oh I’m sorry, come here kids» then he says «ppl can’t walk through”(with attitude) I let what he said go until he went on to say something else rude to me regarding my kids. Oh hell broke out. I told the staff that that guy needs to be fired for rude customer service. They said he’s the owner. I said the owner! With attitude like that! He likes to sell kids stuff but I assure you he hates kids. (and no my kids were not roudy or runny around) he acted as if my kids scattered all the toys. It was like that when we got there. I would have definitely come back but with an owner with personality and attitude like that NEVER AGAIN! So because I was impressed with the store itself with horrible attitude from the OWNER I rate this place 3 star. Thank you ladies in the front who totally understood where I was coming from. otherwise it would’ve been a 5!
Mr. Owner, I’ve seen a lot of your replies to ppl who’ve commented about your attitude. You never seem to own up to your horrible attitude. Even the girls up front agree. If you don’t lighten up you’ll just be a mean old man forever!

One more great expirience at this place I fine all my kids need and more. Having 4 kids and one store and at reasonable prices I will definitely be coming back.

I am always happy to come into once upon a child. Not only is the selection very large but they also buy most of what I bring, and give me a great offer. especially things like Halloween costumes. I also really like that they buy all seasons. Looking forward to my next trip :)

Great place to get some cash for your gently used clothes. I had a whole bunch of baby girl clothes new with tags that I had purchased through out my pregnancy. Only to have given birth to a little boy I had heard about this place through a friend and decided to give it a try. I was pleased with what they gave and bought my little boy more clothes for the upcoming summer.

I love this place. It’s great and it’s very neat and organized! Reasonable to buy clothes for growing children for a cheaper price. And staff are very friendly.

Been coming here for a while from the South Bay. Love their dollar sale. Always find good deals here. Friendly staff and good selection.

Opens at noon on Sundays? Lame! Parents have stuff to do.
It’s cool that they buy your old stuff, but they take way too long and they don’t itemize it.

I won’t be doing business here again. The young ladies working there were very polite but the older man is curt on a good day. Today I went to get a quote for items like a Graco high chair, Graco pack n play, Eddie Bauer diaper bag, Ergo Baby carrier, several VTECH toys, Melissa and Doug, etc but all nice stuff — we had already cleaned everything and discarded damaged items or items missing parts.
I was made uncomfortable when he said several times that all items must be clean and work, though I’d already said I was told that and had ensured everything — I felt judged, I was wearing a baggy sweatshirt? Maybe he recently was scammed with something not working and is overly sensitive about it?
They don’t take all items, like no stuffed animals, no biggie but he wouldn’t even look at the toddler clothes in the same box, shoving it back at me. Goodwill happily took them, saying Mickey and Jake and the Neverland Pirates are always popular attire.
I knew not to expect anything high but was surprised how low my estimate was. A good place in Santa Clara may give you 25% MSRP for new or like new, 20% for like new or gently worn/​not damaged. In their total I was offered less than 8%. I saw items in the store in comparable condition selling for up to 5X what I was offered on the item. I know they need to make a profit to stay in business but I think their profit margin is too generous. I took half the stuff back, I’d feel better donating those larger items, and took the $ 30 for the boxes of toys so I wouldn’t have to load it all up again. Don’t expect assistance and don’t ask to use a cart to bring in your items, both answers were no.
Their retail prices on most items is quite cheaper than the same item new, it’s just hard to recommend a business that cares less for you than Walmart but uses the same markup margins.

I love this place because they have a lot of nice things. I love the selections, they need a Lot more 2T clothes for boys though.
Toys are nice too, but their shoes seem overpriced to me

This shop is a real gem! I love it here. They have a really clean organized shop with LOTS of selections. They even have a huge selection of Halloween costumes =)
They sell clothes brand such as baby GAP, Childrens Place, Ralph Lauren, Carters, and even Janie&Jack. There’s much more you really just have to look, they definitely have good choices.
They even have strollers, car seats, play mats, books, and other things you might need for your baby. =)
I will definitely be back! Try it out good price for gently used clothes!

I’ve enjoyed shopping here in the past and can always find something I like. I had boxes of clothes and shoes to sell. I am very pleased with the what they gave me. I even found some great books (original American girls and classroom grade books about animals).
I arrived before opening and still had to wait an hour for the quote. I suggest you just to drop off and wait for their call.
I’ll be coming back to shop and sell.

I was very impressed with this store. It does not have a thrift store feel and the items are in very good condition. They have a very strict quality control policy with the clothes they buy. I was a little disappointed when I went to sell some of my daughter’s shirts. They did not buy anything. Which is ok considering I now know how picky they are and that I am buying quality items.
Their racks are extremely organized by size, clothing type and it looked like color, although the top rack is a bit high for us shorter folks so reaching and searching was a pain for me. I received a $ 2 off coupon and bought my son 4 shirts and a Nike jacket for $ 20! I would never be able to do that at a retail chain, not even Walmart. The 3T sized shirts ranged from $ 2.50 — $ 3.50, with the jacket being $ 8. It’s unheard of.
I will definitely be coming back and telling my friends about it as well.
