Ever wanted to paddle on a Hawaiian 6-man outrigger canoe?! Well, this is the place to try it! Kilohana has a recreational paddling program and a competitive program. If you are 8 or 80, you can do this! They have paddlers of all ages. They get you out there, on the water, and enjoying the Hawaiian mana«spirit» and our beautiful Bay. You don’t need to buy anything to try it. They have open paddle days when people can come out and try it if they sign a waiver. Kilohana also has loaner paddles and life jackets. The coaches are thorough and knowledgeable.(They do have two sites, so the address is in Fremont for the kids program, and in Redwood City for adults and recreational paddlers). Not only was paddling at Kilohana fantastic exercise and totally addicting, being on the boat and having all the paddles synced up made it a Zen experience for me. We also were able to observe playful harbor seals following our boats and beautiful egrets and Blue Herons in a quiet natural setting. Guess you can tell that I like the recreational program and am not that competitive. Love, love, love what Kilohana provides. In fact, they stole me from another club after I tried paddling there. :) Oh and did I mention, the people are great?! Everyone was very welcoming. They were patient even when I decided that I’d like to try steering the boat. Now, that’s trusting!
